Then stop putting trust in the yt algorithm and become the algorithm yourself. Browse recommendations less and rely more on your natural curiosity - let your mind be curious and come up with questions, then search up these questions. It's either you taking active approach or the algorithm approaching you, so might as well make it a challenge to decide the topics by yourself. But you'll probably come up with actual cool stuff (which likely is out there on the outskirts of KZbin), while the algorithm will keep trying to feed you meaningless garbage slop. Also, be meticulous with your subscriptions.

We've outsourced the cultivating of our interests to an algorithm. Recently, I've been slowly switching back to physical media. It forces me to be thoughtful about the "what do I actually like?" question when I'm purchasing a movie or book or game. I've found that instead of drowning in a sea of stuff I'm only mildly interested in, I can now get fully immersed and fully engage with a handful of things that I'm hyper interested in. It's been much more rewarding. Plus, when Helene hit, we were without internet for a month. But I still had my favorite books and movies and games. No internet needed.

Also, here's a little life hack for those who want to go back to old KZbin videos without third-party extensions or apps. With irl jobs becoming increasingly scarce and poorly paid in many countries, more and more people over the years have seen KZbin as a safe source of income, clinging to the idea that KZbin and its owner Google have infinite money. But if everyone on the planet thinks this and expects to be paid, even the largest multinational in the world will go bankrupt, so we went from initial advertising to the double ad formula, then that was no longer enough and one of the two became unskippable, now we are moving to a formula at regular intervals of time, add the lateral advertising banner etc. Filling videos with ads is functional to encourage people to buy the premium version and creators to advertise in their own videos like never before, thus creating this vicious circle where new people are continually added who make videos expecting to earn money, the ads increase even more and the experience of the average user is increasingly worse. All this greed brings us closer to the day when the platform will go offline. When instead yt has become a heritage of all. I would like a future where KZbin is co-managed by a public international body - perhaps in this way the platform would be at least partially freed from the logic of profit.

Only thing missing is those channels that never post videos but instead constantly post engagement bait community posts

Skill issue. I've been carefully cultivating my recommendations for years, now all i see is car crash compilations and baby sensory videos. I only found this vid because my neighbor accidentally casted it to my tv
