This is the voice of Styx to me...Dennis DeYoung. I love the band, and they have good singers in James Young and Tommy Shaw, but I really connect with Dennis's voice. The expressiveness, the timbre, the sheer facility that he has across the board, he was blessed as a singer. He still sounds like this as well in his 70s because he's dropped some videos of him singing his hit during the quarantine!

This song still brings tears to my eyes even now... Way back in the early eighties, I was engaged to my future husband, he was in the Forces and I worked for the Forces in the UK.. He used to leave from Wendover Train Station, to get to London and then fly back to his Regiment in Germany... Many times this scenario happened, waiting on the platform for the train to come.. Watching him leave and walking back to the Camp I working in, with tears streaming down my cheeks and hoping a letter would come soon.. One phone call a week, on a Friday evening... We were together for 36 years and married for nearly 34 ... Now it is even more poignant as my best beloved husband passed away 3 and a half years ago, no more holding hands, kisses, or hugging.. Just wonderful memories to keep me going.. *sighs* Best wishes to you Jamel, from Wales

My favorite part of ALL these younger reactors.... they seem to know nothing about lip synching. These artists were sent out to make videos and perform on, like, Solid Gold... and almost all of the time they were made to lip sync to the radio version of their popular songs

You'll find that some of them made fun of not really playing while making those old videos. The Doors, Cream, the Who... Keith Moon making faces at the camera waving his sticks in the air, then suddenly going back to pretending to play mockingly. The older the band, the harder it is to find real live performances.

I live in the Chicago area and Dennis De Young still does and calls into a sports radio show occasionally to talk about sports. He’s so down to earth and such a south sider!

There’s a huge difference between the “love songs” of yesterday and the “it’s only sex songs” of today. Very sad that the romance and love has been cast aside.
