How many feel that James Young and Tommy Shaw are underrated Guitar players ?
@eriklarson91377 ай бұрын
People who don't know the definition of underrated. You cannot be considered one of the best in the world at something and be underrated. You are the kind of person that would call Michael Jordan underrated. Oof.
@mdhunter037 ай бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. Nice to see your trolling 3 years after my question. I was merely asking peoples opinion because Ditialdreamdoor is the only guitarist site that even list Tommy Shaw and he comes in at 249. I believe you used a poor example to conclude what kind of person i am as i think most people even today's youth ..... (if they are into sports) know who Michael Jordan is. I'd wager most peope who listened to music everyday don't know James Young and Tommy Shaw. 😄 @@eriklarson9137

@@eriklarson9137 @mdhunter03 I did y'all a favor and looked this up. I googled "top 100 rock guitarists" and found neither of these players on anyone's top 100 list. I did find Tommy Shaw on one person's top 250 at about 248. In my opinion, Shaw and Young both can play circles around most of the players I see in these lists (I also think Young is slightly better than Shaw, as he generally played the harder technical solos, althought Shaw can certainly shred as well). So yes, most definitely they are underrated.

I dont care what ANYONE says STYX BELONGS in the R&R Hall of Fame! PERIOD. If lame Joan Jett who covered everyone gets in HOW IN THE FUCKING HELL dont this band get in with about 25 GREAT original songs? I know the R&R Hall of fame is a JOKE but COME ON MAN!!! While i am bitching Foreigner, Boston, The Cars, Ted Nugent (regardless of his political stance) and my favorite George Thorogood He covered songs like Joan did BUT BETTER! ) all belong before Jett and the Ramones! I get the Ramones being in. They did a punk thing i get it.
@bobbyvoltage71717 жыл бұрын
LesSmith45 I can't stand Joan Jett. At least we're getting Journey in this year and original singer Lou Gramm is rejoining Foreigner for a tour this summer. I can't believe what bands aren't in the hall, no MC5, no George Thorogood, no King Crimson, no Styx, no Boston, no Kansas, no J. Geils Band or Warren Zevon (my personal favorites), no Depeche Mode...as Denis DeYoung said after getting snubbed in 2014, "To each his own, said the lady as she kissed the cow’s ass." The hall is a joke. Rock on!
@ncurry19687 жыл бұрын
Agree about Styx. Thorogood shouldn't be allowed to shine shoes in the lobby of the HOF though. I can name 6 better musicians in town than him...he can't sing, he can't play - how he became what he is today is baffling. Bottom line - if Journey gets in then they have to let Styx in.
@diceytrust27687 жыл бұрын
LesSmith45 They won't let Styx in because they hate Styx. The same person who owns Rolling Stone, either owns, or is involved with RRHF somehow, and he absolutely hates the band.
@ncurry19687 жыл бұрын
That they would let Journey and Cheap Trick in and not Styx is the height of hypocrisy. Styx had was the first band to release four CONSECUTIVE multi-platinum records (with three of them being better than double-platinum) ever. Not sure if anyone else has done it since so they might be the ONLY. Yet Cheap Trick and Journey get in first? Thing is, I'm not bashing Cheap Trick and Journey...they are great bands and worthy of the HOF - but Styx should have been their before them. AND it should be noted that they don't require a younger replacement singer in order to sound as good as they did back in the day. Tommy and JY still belt out the tunes and sound great. Larry Gowan is a replacement for Dennis DeYoung but he is into his 60's and no spring chicken (DeYoung still sounds good anyway...saw him a couple years ago with his band). Even Foreigner has a replacement singer (not that they are in the HOF...but should be in consideration given their resume). Oh, and ELO...I forgot about them. Great band but c'mon - to get in before Styx? Ridiculous.

Yeah but can you state that the last album: Long Road out of Eden sounded as good as the albums where Felder was playing?
@suzim94588 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Well, the bottom line to me is that Felder wrote Hotel California. No doubt, the Eagles were prolific and did a lot more than one song, but you cannot tell me that Hotel Cal is not their defining song. Desperado, Lyin Eyes, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Last Resort, all great stuff. But not even close to replacing Hotel Cal. And that is why Felder is always a key component to the Eagles. One hit wonder? Who cares. It was THE signature song of the Eagles.
@davewolpak27327 жыл бұрын
@SuziM He wrote music that DON HENLEY and GLENN FREY made a song out of that is is Hotel California. IF it wasn't for HENLEY and FREY it would still be a progression in Felder's mom's basement. FACE IT they made HIM they DIDN'T need him. He acted like he was their equal and he was a hired gun who gave them a progression. He also made 60 MILLION from the band he hardly got screwed. You guys act like The Eagles left him PENNILESS and destitute. EVERY GUITARIST who ISN'T a songwriter ( like FELDER) have some great riff that will NEVER become a song until they meet a songwriter to make a SONG out of it. I Love Felder but HE WAS AND IS THE PROBLEM. That was why he is GONE from the band. His attitude lead to the BREAK UP in 1980 and he pulled the same crap in the late 1990's. He also wanted to sing and HE CAN'T and was upset that they wouldn't let him. He should have been like hmm Don Henley ( David Geffen called him "Golden Throat") on "Victim of Love" or me. At least in recent interviews he was honest how does ANY ONE compare to to Henley's voice.
@stevedrums16757 жыл бұрын
What Felder has been able to do in terms of re-building his career after being booted and nearly black-balled from the industry is nothing short of remarkable. the eagles unknowingly gave Felder back his talent, his independence and his freedom. I know this is supposed to be a guitar-themed video feature, but I as an ex-drummer I have to say that Todd Sucherman plays his ASS off here! What the hell was that at 1:33?!?! Holy tasty turn-arounds Batman, that was sweet.

yourdad Only because Porcaro is no longer among us, and because Simon Phillips is more or less retired. And well, I wouldn't underestimate some of the hardrock drummers, think Paice, think Nicko McBrain. It's like with the most clever dog in the world: depending on what tests they have to perform, the poodle beats the German shepherd or vice versa, but don't underestimate the labrador, the Belgian shepherddog nor the bordercollie.

great video. I love seeing Felder having such a good time playing with a band that appreciates his talent. The Eagles? like a dysfunctional family led by a tyrant. no dissent and no airing dirty laundry. After reading Felders book I wouldn't see the eagles if it was free

What an amazing performance in all senses! Vocals, guitars, drums, and not only the playing but the interacting with the audience and between them. Just WOW!

My vote would be for Styx as the most glaringly missing from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The only reason Styx still aren't in the Hall of Fame, is because RRHOF are run by idiots and hacks!

Don plays, sings and smiles. But when he digs in, he turns into a smiling assassin and kills it. Very nicely done without any back up!!!

A Wow, these dudes still got it. Tommy can still hit those high notes, and him and James, still got the chops, and of course Felder just adds to it. Great job.

To those who object to "the keyboard player" and what he is doing, why not just close your eyes and enjoy the music? And maybe later on you can google search his name, Lawrence Gowan, and you'll realize how incredibly talented he is ----with or without a spinning keyboard. After that, you can close your eyes again and imagine what it would be like to be able to play the piano and keyboards like Gowan does.
