Conozco a STYX desde los 70¨s, pero ahora es cuando realmente lo estoy disfrutando y entendiendo a este grupo y la clave de su éxito. This song grew out of the great "industrial bomb" that really hurt Chicago's south side in the late 70's and early 80's. There were three steel mills in the south side (Wisconsin Steel, Republic Steel, and U.S. Steel), now they're all open fields. There were also food processing plants for General Mills cereals, and Jay's potato chips. They're abandoned too. WTH!
@timepoet77
@timepoet77 8 жыл бұрын
I grew up during the 70s, and I can sympathize with your assessment of the "industrial bomb" you mentioned. Not only was Chicago affected, but a lot of other cities as well, especially here in my hometown of Pittsburgh. You mentioned U.S. Steel in the observational comment; Pittsburgh was the headquarters of the company as well as a lot of other steel firms, and for decades we were the only city to produce steel with high quality until the cheaper imports came in. Plus with the new emphasis on environmental concerns and emissions regulations, our steel mills dwindled to almost nothing.
@diceytrust2768
@diceytrust2768 7 жыл бұрын
Thomas R. Skidmore Baltimore, also a big steel industry at that point, was destroyed during the late 70's under the disastrous Carter administration. The Bethlehem Steel company layed off nearly everybody back then. Although it didn't really shut down until the late 90's.

Give me a job, give me security Give me a chance to survive I'm just a poor soul in the unemployment line My God, I'm hardly alive My mother and father, my wife and my friends You see them laugh in my face But I've got the power and I've got the will I'm not a charity case I'll take the long night, impossible odds Keepin' my eye to the keyhole If it takes all that to be just what I am Well I'm gonna be a blue collar man Make me an offer that I can't refuse Make me respectable, man This is my last time in the unemployment line So like it or not, I'll take the Long nights, impossible odds Keepin' my back to the wall If it takes all night to be just what I am Well, I'm gonna be a blue collar man Keepin' my mind on a better life Where happiness is only a heartbeat away Paradise can it be all I heard it was I close my eyes and maybe I'm already there I'll take those long nights, impossible odds Keepin' my eye to the keyhole All that to be just what I am Well I'm gonna be a blue collar man Do do do do do do do do (You don't understand) Do do do do do do do do Do do do do do do do do Do do do do do do do do I'll take those long nights, impossible odds Keepin' my eye to the keyhole If it takes all night to be just what I am I'm gonna be a blue collar Got to be a blue collar Gonna be a blue collar man

At 0:21. Why did Dennis have so many keyboards here when Lawrence only has one? Did technology improve to have the sounds from all of those into one machine?

Maybe one of the most underrated singers, but not songwriters. Dennis DeYoung wrote most Styx songs, and Too Much Time On My Hands is the only Shaw written Styx top 10 hit
