As a long time owner of this DAC.......Just let me say this. You will need a bottle of wine, a song you know well, and a misspent evening to fool around with the filters. At the end of which.... I still have no freagin idea on where to leave it set!

I’ve been using tube three for months now but I am after watching this video will experiment was some of the rich settings but I don’t think you can go wrong with the DAC is definitely an overachiever for the price point!

Just installed the subsequent SU9 and prefer the 'straight' (unfiltered) setting. Have a neutral sounding system; limited coloration, so 'rich and 'tube' sound too thick for my taste. 'Crystal' is okay with notable emphasized high frequency prominence. Thanks for the review!

I just got this unit yesterday. At first I was disappointed with it. I was certain that my Schiit Modi 3 sounded the same, if not better. Today I can tell that the SMS sounds much better, but I did notice that it sounds a bit thin. I did not even bother trying what you are doing in this video because I thought they were just EQs. I have not tried all of them yet, but the 'rich' setting sounds better, it definitely helped with the "thin" issue.

This could definitely be dependent on a number of variables such as hp choice, amp, files, etc. I own this DAC and I can hear clear differences between some of the filters whereas others not so much. However, I doubt most folks buy a DAC for its filter features. And lastly, this is a good DAC but it’s still a budget DAC.

Love Audacity audio recording with DAC, love my Fostex HP-A3, simple enough to enjoy music, I do not need sound filter I guess, just enjoy on music listening.

What about this PCM Filter? Did you test them? Maybe make similar video test/review?

I totally know what you mean. I honestly had to have headphones and know the music really well to even tell. While I do state in the video that the Rich setting is the one I'd use, I 100% agree that while there may be some difference, it's not enough to justify if there's an extra cost. Want the su-8, but the su-9 has mqa and I want to try it. Thanks for the sound samples. I just hated it when it’s talking heads or just a video of the unit with no humans.

I hear a very slight difference in the bass when switching between the tracks, even with my eyes closed, so I don't think it is a placebo; personally, I like tube 3 the best!

I'm in the same boat. I've tried this as a dac with my cd player, and i can't get anywhere! I'll try one more time.
