A video on rebuilding SU carbs. These are HIF6 from a 1979/80 Rover SD1 V8-s, but the bodies are similar if not the same as the HIF44 and HIF44e that came later.
I bought my rebuild parts from Dave at DSG carburation on ebay
www.ebay.co.uk/str/dgscarbura...
And SU Burlen
burlen.co.uk/
I have no links/affiliation to either company, i just spunked a load on money there :(
These sorts of carburettors were fitted to loads of british cars, rover sd1, jaguar, mini, maestro, montego etc etc. So if you need tro rebuild anything like that then this video should help.

“The problem with me doing videos is I’m not organised at all”. You make up for that in attention to detail mate. Must of said it a thousand times but you really are gifted. We all love your content and pyjamas 😂. She sounds lovely 🎼🎶🎵🎶❤️

Brings back memories of the needle and jet 'upgrade' I did on my TR7 back in the day, which ended in several weeks of rebuilding the entire carbs. No such thing as a simple job! Lol 😂

I haven't the patience to read a book like that and definitely not the brainpower to rebuild carbs with all the bits and setup involved. Well done to you. Disappointing to hear dotty was sold, you put mega effort into that car.

I realy enjoy your vids!! Compared to me you are extrmely organised and have an ability to detail far greater than I . My love of the SD1 also helps. My father had 3 which he let me use as if they were mine, 2 x 3500 autos and a 2.6S manual. As I said, loved them!

Very useful video I'm going to be refurbishing my Maestro SU carb
@nitrosilvia
@nitrosilvia 3 жыл бұрын
it will probably be very similar indeed. If it is a late maestro, then it will probably have a big stepper motor on the side instead of a manual choke, and an ORFCO valve or fuel shut off valve on the side. I had to rebuild a pair of them on my SD1 police car. The o-rings that seal the stepper motor to the body can split, and the ORFCO valves can gum up. Pretty similar though. The long stupid screws that hold the stepper motor on the carb are held on with loctite and very easy to ruin the heads. Make sure you have a really good fitting screw driver bit in the heads. I rounded mine off and it was a right pain in the butt.

@@nitrosilvia thank you for the advice, it's very welcome. I have a late 1.3 clubman. The manual choke appears to be on some kind rocker lever, that pulls up when engaged. I'm not sure if it's has a stepper motor on the side from what I can see, I might be wrong. Good call on the scree driver, I wouldn't wish to round any heads off the bolt. Wish I had one of the Sonic solution cleans as shown in your video. That would be handy. I guess it's going to have to be some brake cleaner and a brush, maybe a bit of petrol to clean 😅

After meeting you and your V8-S in the Notcutts carpark some weeks ago, I thought of you this morning while watching the latest "The Late Brake Show" on KZbin, wherein a 1983 Vitesse is resurrected from a garage. Apparently the owner might want to sell it and... perhaps you need a very original Vitesse in your life;-) I hope your V8-S is behaving. Keep up the good work.

Awesome vid. Ive got a jaguar XJ6 2 series 1974, 4.2 and they got SU HIF7. Ive been replacing the needle and sears and they still overflowing enormously. Ive set the float to spec: -1mm of the bottombody. But keeps on flowing???! What to do?
