Hmm question: instead of asking if I can use x470 with Ryzen 3 (having upgraded to Ryzen 2 from FX in Febuary), what Ryzen 3 Processors SHOULD I NOT RUN on x470?
@lunchie80
@lunchie80 5 жыл бұрын
@@JonManProductions You can probably run any of them. Only limitation will be the boards VRM capacity for overclocking etc. so a 3700x will be perfectly fine, a 3950x may be limited with overclocking depending on your X470 VRM capacity. Still probably ok on air cooling anyway.

I like to see entry level boards analyzed because that's what most people afford. It would be cool if you could design a score: (does it have a LED debug +1/-1, can it support 12 cores, 16 cores +1/+2, etc...). Basically scoring sheet that can make mobos comparable once they are reviewed.

Agreed. I want to know: 1. Which chips will it support best 2. What issues will it have 3. What's my likely outcome with overclocking CPU, Memory, etc. 4. What important features are there present? Missing?

@JimmyTheSaintDailyVideos 5 жыл бұрын
Just buy a X470/B450 motherboard instead. If you dont need PCIE 4.0 (99% of people have no use for it now) then just get last generations board. Get a higher end board with the features you want and you are good to go for about the same price as an "entry level" x570 board. Keep in mind an entry level x570 board will be $175 or more and will skimp on features to meet the price. For that money you could get a good midrange/high end x470 motherboard and still have all the fancy features and a quality VRM for the new high core chips.

No overclocking just stock performance (If I can OC sure but not required) I have the msi B450 carbon ac pro board running a ryzen 2700x and maybe not right away but after a year or two when prices drop enough, I would like to update to either the 3700x or 3800x on the same board. NTMFS4C024N's RDS(on) is 2.8 mohm at 25 deg C. At 80 deg C RDS(on) is around 3.6 mohm. That's called positive RDS(on) temperature coefficient. This can get you in a lot of troubles if you don't calculate the cooling solution properly.

My advice which you asked for at the end of the video would be to invest more into the conclusion. Summarize the major features and inputs/outputs of the board, how well those are implemented, some comparison to other boards and making a value proposition for the board. Is it a good value vs its competitors? That sort of thing. Also an actual temperature measurement of the VRM's etc while the board is in operation would be VERY helpful. Perhaps testing some memory timings and making sure the thing boots alright if you can start getting your hands on some of these. I'm curious about how different the temps on this are vs the msi gaming edge wifi that Hardware Unboxed tested.

@@michaelmacdonald329 Not sure why I didn't see your question until just now, but it's a great board. I'm running a ryzen 7 5800x which is a hot chip but the board stays fairly cool. I have great airflow and max vrm temps after gaming for hours is 59c. Without too much effort I managed to get stable 3733 ram speed at 1866 fclk with 4 x 8 gb hynix djr's, and could I get 1966 fclk but I didn't like the voltages (crappy ram) so I backed off. I'm running it daily at 3600 xmp though because I need this pc to last 20 years. This board has a bug (or is at an agesa bug?) where it won't boot for me with ram/fclk at 3800/1900 or 4000/2000 but it will at any other speed but that wasn't a huge issue since I know that's a thing. I'm not very budget restricted however I would like to keep the price down as much as possible without losing important features or overinvesting into useless ones. Dear Gamers Nexus: After watching you VID about Mainboards for Intel draw way much more power then expected to gain computing power: Is this not the case for AMD mainboards/CPUs? Since I am a user with the highest demand on the hardware while gaming I ask myself the question if it would be wise to get a Mainboard/Cooler which can handel ~double the TDP of the bought chip without being too inefficient? And to be a little blunt: Have the X570 Mainboards anything else to offer then PCIe4.0? Till now it seems like "get a B450/X470 and you will be fine for any real world problems". Cant think of a usecase for consumers to benefit of PCIe4.0 - or did i miss something big? Expecting nice reviews after the lunch! And many thx to one of the few channels giving good hardware reviews!

BZ has questioned the BIOS Flash button before, but it saved my butt once on an ASUS Crosshair Hero VI when a bios flash corrupted the BIOS, and would not post. The Bios Flash back worked and bot me back in biz same night no stress or grief.

Not making excuses for the board the clear CMOS should have been on the back and the bios flashback on the edge of the board. However, if you are really desperate with the right connector (same type as used on two pin front panel) you could wire a remote switch to clear CMOS.

Kind of hoping that the we'll get some mATX boards with the B550 boards. I noticed that most MB manufacturers abandoned the form factor, apparently. It's just the perfect size for the cases I like. Also, I don't have a need (or the money to exploit) the only feature exclusive to the new skew of boards. Currently using a msi B450M Gaming Plus (which I'm sure BZ will say is crap, lol). Guess I'll get one of the new chips for the improved single core performance and just keep my old mb.

i have been using this board over 9 months, i wish i have watched this video before i bought it. I have switched to water cooling, my cpu temprature is doing good but vrm is cooking. I don't recommend this board for the overclockers ( i dont over clock by the way - R9 3900x ) because of the vrm heat issue. I will be buying a small fan as he said to cool vrm. :(

with osciloscope i measured the vrm frequency in the default configuration to be 500khz and i actually saw difference if i connect 1x8 pin or 1x8pin and 1x4pin. I run my 3600 at ccx0 4.05 and ccx 4.025 at 1.2v it's stable when i use only the 8 pin and 1.1875 when im using both 1x8 and 1x4. Small difference you will argue but is something like 3~4W less and 1.5 ~ 2C less. 2C less you will get if you lap the cpu or use liquid metal so well worth it in my book the decision to add another connector.

So, it's good unless you want to overclock a Ryzen 9. It would probably survive doing so, at least for a while, but a more expensive motherboard with a more robust VRM would be better suited to the task.

So does the increased cost of x570 motherboards negate the price to performance gains of Ryzen 3000 over most Coffee Lake processors? The better question would be, will ryzen 3000 run at full capacity on older am4 boards?

The extreme cost of the 9900k and a high end Z390 board to accompany it pretty much negates this argument, although the $50-$100 might ruin the value proposition compared to other ryzen parts, especially those on x470/b450.

It's all well and good that 2x8GB works the best for overclocking, everyone always says that. But 16GB just of total RAM just isn't a lot anymore these days. Maybe it's still fine for gaming, but for other workloads you need more. I am much more interested in how 2x16GB performs than 2x8GB. And 4x8GB makes far less sense I think, because a) 4 modules can lead to more issues, and b) you have no more room left to upgrade in the future.
