I’m Italian. I’m happy you came to Italy. There’s no mandatory tipping in Italian restaurants, especially not in cash. I think they ripped you off. Never eat in those restaurants near tourist sites, they are meant only for tourists. You’ll eat very expensive bad food, and you’ll get bad service. If you research in internet, you’ll find much better restaurants with real Italian cuisine.
