It’s also a good idea to do 10 shot groups when using 22lr it gives you a lot better idea of what the ammo is going to do.. great stuff boss love the rimfire content!!!!

SK STANDARD PLUS: you need to try this ammo.... excellent for the price. i used to compete in both ARA (American Rimfire Association) and BR/50 matches, all was benchrest at 50 yards. One shot per bullseye, 25 bulls per target, 10 ring was .25" dia and "X" was the diameter of a pencil lead. ALL of us used single shot rifles, usually with BaldEagle front rests and a sandbag rear rest. Besides absolute consistency with hands, cheeks, and shoulders when shooting, the two keys for us were which ammo the gun liked, the setting of your barrel harmonics device (forgot the proper name), barrel crown, and being able to read the wind flags/barrel mirage, and range mirage. Above all, we ALL loaded one single shot at a time to prevent bullet distortion as it travels from clip to chamber. Our rifles had 2 ounce triggers, and if you closed bolt too fast you would get an accidental discharge. All our rifles were capable of shooting a 250 at 50 yards, meaning all 25 shots would be touching the .25" ten ring, though few shooters were capable of this accuracy. Most rifles used Anschutz 54 actions; scopes used were at least 25X and some were 40X. This was all 25 years ago. Try that SK Standard Plus if you can.

Consistency is King. Use 10 shot groups, and even try ammo from different batches. I've been shooting .22 pistol for about 40 years competition style. Had the opportunity to get plates for a ransom rest and used 2 different handguns from the same maker and model. They liked different ammo, and different batches get different results. After talking to some ammo traders, they usually had to send samples (500) from many batches to the top shooters, and they then had first pick from those batches, and they got a lot of ammo from the best batches. In many cases, the same factory made the ammo for different labels. As not many ammo makers produce .22s.

Thank you again, I do enjoy your rim fire 22. Brings back my first time hunting in Kentucky with my Grandfather. He started me at 8 years old squirrel hunting in 1960. Bolt action, and after MUCH safety training and was only allowed one bullet....My Grandfather would say you must always know where the bullet goes... because you can't call it back once it has left the barrel..and the shot must be precise so the animal does not suffer. Thank you again for your videos!

Norma shoots great, but it's also always been inconsistent. I'll get 5 or 6 fliers per box on every rifle I own. SK is always a top performer for me. I will say for a semi auto that thing shoots great!

You know what will be an interesting comparison. 22Lr Ultra sonic ammo groupings at 100 compared to 50. I had to do this one day and found 50 yards groups to be very good then moved to 100 yards all groupings went haywire back to 50 yards and groupings back. Well I have to say I only had one brand and bullet weight. I'll like to see what your findings will be with a variety of brands and bullet weights. I contributed my findings to bullet spin stability. The with subsonic ammo the groupings stayed together at 50 and 100 yards. Again with only one brand of ammo and one bullet weight. Let's see what we can learn from this.
@BradleyPickersgill3 ай бұрын
When you get further back it gives the round more time to go from supersonic to subsonic and when it goes through that change from supersonic to subsonic it throws it off course.

Some of the Hornady videos do a good job of explaining why we cant assess precision with groups of less than about 20 shots. Their data shows that we get something approaching a "normal curve" which becomes predictive at about 30 to 35 shots in the group. But with just 2, 3 shot groups we are not getting any valuable data because the cone of fire has not been defined at that number of shots.

Nice rifle but I prefer the Savage Mark II bolt action because it is easier to clean and works with all .22 ammo. The 64 has to be dismantled for cleaning to do it right. Some people just spray it and work the bolt back and forth but that is not a proper cleaning.

My savage really likes the Federal 45 grain subsonic rounds, I have a Bagara that like the aguila 40gr subs and the federal gold metal match. Its crazy how different rimfires rifles can be between ammo types.
@NC-xk1eg4 ай бұрын
You are so right. Although they're just metal parts with many tolerances & coefficients of thermal expansion that all magically come together off the end of an assembly line...it IS crazy how with two identical rifles one will favor this ammo & the other favors that ammo!

Still rad👍🏻 Thanks for documenting … Wish the Mag wasn’t canted… Same reason the Ar-9 or Mac-11 with Glock mags bug me(un-canted Colt AR-9’s and Stabdard Mac-11’s are rad though)🤙🏻

I might be crazy stupid but I just run a whole box of 50 into the same target to test ammo, I make sure my point of impact is way off the airm point so not to destroy it them measure the overall group size of everything. I patch it out between ammo types.

An ammo test on a scoped click clack/ gill gun with a nice scope would be cool. I kinda like them crappy trigger and all .since you have cans it would be the perfect candidate to be threaded since you can just push the bolt handle in to lock the bolt
@ryanmckee2089Ай бұрын
Should definitely shoot at least 10 shot groups. Especially with match ammo. The barrel has to be “seasoned” with the particular bullet and its lube. That’s why you may have had better groups with certain ammos as they were still going through the lube from the previous bullet. Different match ammo makers use different lubes and it really does make a difference. You should try Eley Semi Auto Benchrest Precision and Eley Semi Auto Benchrest Outlaw in that 64. I shoot my CZ 457 Varmint MTR from 50-200yds and it performs very well with top tier match ammo. Good luck and happy shooting!
@oldgandy53556 ай бұрын
Setting up for match shooting is kinda like tuning your guitar. Temperature, humidity, and patience have a lot to do with the end result. I have always wondered what the difference would be if you could go from a 16 inch twist to a 14 or a 12. Time was when anything faster than 9 or 10 was considered foolish. Time was any kid with a guitar fancied himself being another Chet Atkins or Jimmy Hendrix. Excellent video.

I have done this before, but got far worse performance out of the cci standard v than you found. And red and yellow SK were about identical. So for Father's Day, my daughter and I are gonna take a rifle to the range and try CCI standard V, and the yellow and red box SK. I want to see if the three are closer than last time. And one supersonic cartridge just to see the wild difference there.

I think a true test would consist of fully serviceing the action, cleaning oiling etc... prior to barrel service between each mfg. Consisting of brushing the barrel then a solvent patch followed by two dry patches. Then two groups of 5 to season to the lube that manufacture is using and lastly the primary 5 shot group that determines the true accuracy of that barreled action bullet combination. I mean if you want true unbiased results then each ammo manufacture/ rifle combo must stand on its on and procedure is as important as shooting fourm.
@WHOTEEWHO6 ай бұрын
Yup. That would take me an entire day and cost me a fortune. 🤷♂️ This gives us a general idea of the capabilities of the model 64 precision tho 👍👍

No matter what the caliber why waste the bullets by getting the barrel ready lol love you videos brother keep them coming
@stabbinfatties94896 ай бұрын
It's not so much a caliber thing, it's the bullet, airguns are terrible at switching pellets due to the lead composition differences between pellets, (you have to get the old lead out of the rifling and replace it with the new stuff) I'd imagine 22lr has the same issue as evident by his groups being so inconsistent from fist to second. Copper jacketed bullets all have pretty much the same Copper jacket so it's not an issue.
