That's true if Chrono DID know they were going to train like that. But I feel like it was just intended for Kazuma to train so he probably didn't expect this. Imagine it like this - Chrono is in Kazuma's situation instead, replace Kazuma and Taiyou with Shion and Tokoha. If Shion and Tokoha had the same things going through their heads as Chrono and Taiyou had in this episode, would she be prepared? It's possible that if TRY3 hadn't split up, this might have happened.
