I was about to comment something like this then I saw yours. It's easy to get an image of Marine being crass due to her pirate persona and image of being a lewd obasan. But put her in a one-to-one conversation and she's actually kinda sophisticated, very articulate and intelligent.

I'm a happily married man, let me tell you guys something critical. You see how willing the captain was to really sit down and have an open discussion with Subaru here about how each other feel? That right there is the sign of an absolutely excellent woman. A lot of people get wrapped up in the horny and wacky side of Marine, but she's consistently shown a level of maturity and compassion that's incredibly inspirational. If any of you are looking for someone special in your life definitely look for someone willing to hear you out and also tell you how they feel like she does.

Exactly. The moment that make me decide Marine was my Oshie was during the Loli stream, when she stop and still in character advise someone to check for salaries safty if their job ends. And i ceel this as it has happen to me when my contract was to expire and someone close to me inform i could recive a small extra fromthe goverment after until i get a new job. Tho i would say her mayor flaw and strenght is her emotional outbursts, where we can see here and there how he gets heated up and speed talks while also trying to show afections in her own wacky way, which not everyone gets.

Miosha maybe the "mom" of the Hololive, but almost no one noticed that Marine is the "cool aunt" of Hololive. she's one of the most easily approachable of all holomem, highly sociable, always giving full attention and help to any holomem who needs her, and always the first who cracks the ice on awkward moments in collabs.

"But touch is even more vital than this: Babies who are not held, nuzzled, and hugged enough can stop growing, and if the situation lasts long enough, even die. Researchers discovered this when trying to figure out why some orphanages had infant mortality rates around 30-40%. We now know that orphanages are not suitable places for infants. Babies aged zero to five simply do not receive enough stimulation in group residential care to develop to their full capacity."

This was a really, really good clip and I really appreciate all the context and conversation. It always struck me as strange when they said they have no chemistry because their conversations were always fun and felt like they had a good back and forth manzai format, but for there to be that kind of quieted-away tension and misunderstanding present between them, that makes a lot more sense. Maybe it's just something I didn't pick up on due to cultural difference or my own failure to perceive it. I'm glad for them though, it feels like they were really able to connect and understand each other a bit more (along with the bit elsewhere in the stream/in another clip where Marine explains she thought there was more distance between them so she had been speaking keigo/politely to Subaru the whole day).

It's really good that they talked about it out of their own volition as well. If things went on as it was, I don't think they'd enjoy collabing because slight annoyances and/or getting your feelings hurt can turn to hatred.
@jergarmar
@jergarmar 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, from this wonderful clip, I finally understood what they even meant by "having no chemistry". They both tend to take the lead in conversations... but they do so in the MOST OPPOSITE WAYS possible. Marine is heartfelt and emotional and even has "outbursts", but then Subaru is one to "laugh it off" and be adaptive in just about any circumstance. So their natural inclinations are like oil and water, Subaru especially does not have a good way of responding to Marine's emotionality, and Marine gets self-conscious when Subaru draws back from the conversation. It's amazing that such a complicated interaction could be communicated through a translated clip, kudos to Gundamfinal.

@@snailthelostcow63 Yes, I agree, Subaru in particular seemed baffled by the difficulty in being close to Marine. Marine, though, is more circumspect about it, she knows that she's an "unreasonable person" (her words) sometimes, and understands that some people are just going to inevitably have a hard time with her (like the story in this clip, but she has said so pretty explicitly before as well). I actually think that Subaru's personality has a hard time accepting that; she has had streams with various people to get through these difficulties (like with Sora). And I'm so glad, it has produced some of the most amazing collabs, like this one!

I totally get what Su-kun said about her brain just shutting off when Ma-chan goes into hysterics. There's just some specific behaviors that other people have that it's really hard for me to even pretend to play along with or understand. I think it's often the case when the more reserved, or rather "slower" people are bombarded with a lot of non-typical behavior or just hyperactivity. Ma-chans hysterics for instance are considerably an "unnatural" way to act especially when it's unprompted, so it's hard if Su-kun is expected to jump into higher gear on a whim. But Ma-chan is a sweetheart that understood that it was stressful for Su-kun, not everyone is able to be that understanding which is probably partly why Su-kun was walking on eggshells too.

I think Hugging it out solves problems better than people realize. Marine was 100% right how helpful a hug can be, especially when dealing with emotions. When you hug someone, you break through those barriers that can subconsciously get put between you. Its a physical connection that is comforting, so you can let yourself be vulnerable. The biggest part is where a hug places your head, you are out of eye-contact, you are right beside each other's ear, and you are supported by each others' shoulders. This means you can communicate directly, without any self-consciousness, all while supporting each other physically. People need to hug more.

Imagine interacting about how they get mad about stuff they do, getting stressed and describing every single interaction between them at the moment of it happening, with your distant colleague/friend, now a closer one, then holding hands and hugging it out. As someone studying psychology i can't say this is nothing but absolutely amazing and considering how in Japan mental health is a strong taboo thing (around the world it is, but Japan has it a bit stronger than some other places) just unbelivable. What an amazing discussion between two of my favorite Holomem! I certainly understood a lot better that Marine's explosive and emotional "outbursts", and Subaru's easygoing "laugh it off" adaptability, are like oil and water. It makes each of them pause like, "how do I respond to this?" Several times I was like, "whoa, I totally get it now". But I think Marine's qualities stood out in particular, because she is pretty well aware of the impact that she has on others, so she has the greater experience putting these things into words. But in any case it was an amazing discussion, I hope they do get close! I love seeing them talk.

18:03 is amazing, for Subaru practicing to be emotional and "hysterical": M: Su-kun should initiate (the hug). S: (intentionally being more emotional) Ma-chan should initiate! M: Let's both move forward then! S: But it was Ma-chan's idea in the first place! See, this way it doesn't work out, one side has to give way. M: Okay, I'll be the one to give way, let's do it again. Su-kun should initiate! S: Alright. (😆) M: Wait, you gave in! S: Oh, right. Sorry, I didn't want to think any more. Hilarious! And SUCH a satisfying hug, even for us watching.

Thanks for this extended clip! It's easy to forget the personal relationships the girls share behind what we see on stream, and Marine perfectly sums up how these things tend to play out. For a lot of the girls, they're co-workers first and foremost and it's unreasonable to think that they're all good friends off-stream. Dude, this is top stuff. Not only we get and insight in this 2 personality wise but also how they interact with each other. I am a fan of both so could see the stress, Marine is very girly and fluid in emotions, while subaru is less emotional and more firm but still thoughtful. Marine assesment that subaru is more like manly in that aspect seems correct, as Subaru and Luna relationship is more base on respect and honor than afection, while Senchou does care a lot of those she gets attached to. This may also implie in the hug part, Subaru like to embrace over other, which is dominant but also protective of those under, showing more of Subaru independant spirit, but also her action as an elder sister.

Oh God, thank you for the translation. This is actually very important especially for those who like BabaDona duo. It's pretty interesting as well seeing how "manly" Subaru is and how "girly" Senchou is. The reason why they had a hard time with each other is like how men had a hard time understanding women and vice versa. Honestly, watching this actually reminds me at the times when I had a conflict outta nowhere with my sister. Hell, Subaru bringing food is actually my reaction when trying to dissolve the tension aaand I'm gonna stop there since it will turn into a masculine and feminine analysis, lmao edit: also yes, hugging actually works really well!

Maybe it’s because mental health is still not a thing here or smth but it personally feels so irritating having to step on shells upon shells trying to dodge bullets at the same time when we can try to communicate about our actual feelings like adults 🤷‍♀️

Marine here pretty much shows me why IMO she is probably the most popular member (among the other JP members). Her ability to socialize and read people and the environment is probably the best in Hololive. That is probably why she probably is in so many collabs and seems close to quite a few members. Subaru can be intimidating to some members just due to how extroverted she is and Marine handles this conversation like a champ. Hell there is a clip where Coco and Miko were saying how Marine knows how to talk and is in so many networks back in 2020. There are quite a few examples of Marine using her skills to either help out a member (Polka) or to change up a situation that works best for a stream even if it isn't hers (Kiara).

This is why Marine has a distinct affinity to me. The way she interacts in person and online in a one on one conversation.... And how conscientious she can be even though her whole schtick is being a crass horny pirate. She's a hidden gem of a woman, reminds me of a colleague I formerly worked under. Best team leader tbh, wanting to work with them again.

Thanks for the lengthy TL! Conversations like these are part of the reason why I really like watching both of them, separately and together.

Thank you for the longer clip! I can usually mostly understand what they are saying based on context for a stream, but when they are just talking like this, its really hard for me to follow. So I really appreciate you translating this, Thank you so much!
