Awesome build. I like your extra tiedown points for robustness. I really liked the aluminium panel for your cook surface.

I like this quite a bit. One sticking point is the single hinge for the fold down coffee making stand. I'd recommend for longevity to use two hinges.

I have a 2014 Forester and was looking for a good build design with 2 part drawers. Thank you for posting!
@longarm_climbing11 ай бұрын
Absolutely amazing build. And leaving one seat still functional was a pretty good idea. Just having a seated space with a sort of table beside it could be quite useful. I see there was a gap between the storage behind the driver and the bed frame area where you stacked 4 pieces of plywood, did you end up tidying up this part and utilizing the tiny cubby space or left it as is? Also the aluminum countertop was a stroke of genius. Adds such a convenience for a countertop that you don't see in many builds. About to go down a rabbit hole for any videos you've posted of the Forester as this is perhaps the best build i've seen thus far.
@jaroddclark9 ай бұрын
Thank you! For the cubby storage I usually use that to store camera gear as a sort of built-in camera bag. It has served a variety of purposes for camping and just driving about town.

Definitely cool but there's so much lost space with that foam around the spare. I took mine out and built supports underneath. Lots of space for food under there. I also cut my rear seat so it's a permanent 3 seater now. I get wanting to keep the seats but removing them is easy and gives you a ton of space. Far easier to do that than installing this system.

Great build, Jarod. Thanks for sharing. How easy is it to access the spare tyre?
@jaroddclark Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Not easy, but I could do it in an emergency. I would just remove the drawer system and the bolts between the trunk and bed sections, then remove the trunk section to gain access. It might take around 15-20 minutes and some heavy lifting to do.

Love your build! Looking to do something similar for my 2017 Forester 😃 I was wondering, do you drive around with the truck frame or do you take it out after your camping trip?
@jaroddclark Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have kept the entire build in the car since my original install. I haul lots of different things for work and the flat area I created ends up working out very well for that. It wouldn't be too difficult for me to remove it, but storing it somewhere in my apartment seems a bit impractical. I don't find it has a significant impact on gas mileage either.

Thanks for sharing this. Just got my 2017 Forester and may try building something like this!
@Gruvmpy10 ай бұрын
How did you go about securing it in the back of the car? Or did you rely on the fitment of the pieces to do that?
@jaroddclark9 ай бұрын
The pieces fit very tightly within the space of the car, however there are two turnbuckles that fasten the back section into the trunk. Mostly these are to provide a counterweight when the drawer is fully extended

Will this fit a 2007 Subaru forester? Looking to get dimensions can’t find any online
@jaroddclark9 ай бұрын
From my understanding forester models before ‘13-‘14 are a bit smaller. I think they made the design bigger around that time.

Nice build man! I notice you've taken 2 inches of the height of the entire build. So does that mean your finished 'vertical walls/supports' are 9 inches like in the plan or 7 inches after you took it all down a bit?
@jaroddclark Жыл бұрын
Thank you! They are 9 inches, all the plans were updated after the build was complete.

@@jaroddclark The three splines in your original sketch (at 1:54) show a three inch difference in the height of the splines. When you cut it down did you maintain the 3 inch drop to keep the build level? I am in the middle of building this now for my daughters forester.
@jaroddclark4 ай бұрын
@@brianmurphy1758 Yes, the 3 inch drop was necessary for me in order to keep the build level. I'm not sure if the incline in the trunk is the same slope in all forester models, so I would recommend measuring or making a test piece to see. I think I remember doing a couple of test pieces and testing with a level. I'm so happy to hear someone is using the design! Good luck, I'd love to see how it turns out!
@brianmurphy17584 ай бұрын
@@jaroddclark Thank you for your prompt reply. I see that yours is a 2015 while my daughter's is a 2013. I have already cut holes in the splines to reduce as much weight as possible so 3 inch drop will be too much. I may cut down 1.5 inch in prop up the back end another 0.5 inches to give me a 2 inch difference. I'll let you know. Thanks again for the inspiration.
@Ezthrax Жыл бұрын
Do you think this would fit in a 2021 Forester?
@jaroddclark Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure, but I believe since the 2015 models the body style of the forester has been very similar in size. I would say the overall design would work but I would make sure to test fit things along the way and be prepared to make small adjustments.

I didn’t keep very close track of the costs, but I ended up spending around $1k for all the parts & supplies (not counting tools). The wood was the most expensive part!
