It's not the best looking 4x4 ever made, nor is it the most desirable, but the Subaru
Forester is certainly one of the most useful. Not only is it extremely adept off-road, but there's also lots of space inside, so it's supremely practical. The choice of engines is limited and the looks aren't particularly attractive, but that shouldn't matter if you just want a competent 4x4 with excellent reliability.

Me too Lanre Odusote. I own the car in question and the same year . Done 94,000miles and doesn't lose a drop of oil or water. Love it to bits.

I always liked the Forester. It has the best forward and rear visibility of any SUV I have ever driven. Also the turning circle is very tight so it is good in towns, very easy to park and the soft suspension is good with all our pot hole. Full time 4 wheel drive not part time like my VW. If they had a dealer near me and DSG gearbox I would have bought one.

The only person (on the planet) who has said that an X-Trail is a better drive than a Forester - the first I have heard at least.

I can agree with Rebecca, for I don't really see a lot of Foresters in my neck of the woods (Greater Philadelphia Area, U.S.), but it is really desirable in my opinion and if I were to ever be in the market for something like this, this vehicle and a front-wheel-drive CX-5 from Mazda would be at the top of my list.

comparison between the outback, legacy and the forester would be nice so that we can tell the difference. lagacy looks more comfortable in the back. do the rear seats recline as well?

I have a 2010 and the suspension is ridiculously hard. But 240K km still going strong and no major issues.

Stay away from early diesesl, they snap crack-shafts like match-sticks. Very expensive to repair. These are cars to set to work. Simple but good. And she can keep her boots on btw.

I had this car as a rental once. The manual gearbox in this car is just beyond terrible. The controls were not ergonomic. But the 4 wheel drive did come in handy in the snow

I am interested in buying a 2010 Subaru Forester 2.0D 147 bhp with the 6 speed manual. Is there anything in particular that I must look out for? The internet doesn't really say anything bad about it, it seems to be very reliable. Only issues reported are on transmission crapping out on cars that consistently tow upwards of 1 ton.

Yea. Test drove a few of them. Very reliable, diesel engines are very economical (Petrol boxers not so much), and the clutch cant handle towing lots of weight. It's a really great car, but the interior is abit too spartan for me. Impressive that the interior still looks good as new and nothing was rattling. Also, the manual doesn't seem very right on this one (as on most SUVs). I ended up with an 2008 Touareg because I wanted something abit comfier. But value for money, the Forester has the Touareg licked all over the place.

Suspension problems?! What, that's rubbish!!! I've driven one with 130kph and more in corners and might i say - This thing sticks to the road like glue!!! The gear changes are easy as well. Off-road performance is excelent! I drove this on closed snowy roads (I live in Bulgaria and we get quite a bit of snow. Also they rarely clean the streets) So, i drove it trough deep snow and the ESP rarely came on. I even did a hill start on ice! It actually climbed without difficulty. Amazing!

One negative this car has that nobody mentions is the non-adjustable headrests for the front seats. They are angled forward a lot and you can't lean your head back even the slightest. I never noticed that on the test drive but after a few weeks of ownership, it became very uncomfortable.

Yes, the Legacy's rear seats do recline. The Outback has more space and they both are just as comfortable. My dad has the 2012 Outback and a friend of his drives the 2012 Legacy. I've driven both and there isn't much difference. Maybe the Legacy handles a bit sportier, cause it rides lower. The Outback is slightly higher than the Legacy and slightly heavier. Both are brilliant cars. I'm a Mercedes fan and i try to find faults in other cars, but Subarus are something else! They are superb!

My 2009 has double specs holder above me,and I thought that's great when I bought car☺️ ..and they are, as long as you don't mind causing a pile up,or having a head on smash while trying to get them out of there in one piece,or as long as you don't mind your specs coming out in 2 or 3 parts ready for reassembly,with the lenses all scratched and covered in fingerprints from the latest battle that just took place. 🤔Not sure if Subaru were actually blind drunk or just having a laugh when they did this to gen 3,I mean wtf,I've tried about 3 different pairs of shades in there,with same result,so now they have to stay elsewhere in car,like the passenger seat...only for my girlfriend to sit on and break them instead arrrrggghh😱. I can only conclude these were designed for 2 anorexic dwarfs travelling together,or were for 2 pairs swimming goggles maybe. Apart from it having a slight drink problem,and a few other querks,niggles or common minor issues that Subaru like to keep going from one generation to the next (like the worst oil dipsticks in the world lol)...I can't complain really,and still ♥️my scoob☺️
