Subaru Forester UEL Header - Budget Exhaust Series Part 1

In this video we install an unequal length (UEL) header on Kasey's 99 Subaru Forester. We also compare the sound of the stock headers vs the UEL ones. The cats and muffler are still stock but will be upgraded in the next parts of our series.

How have the headers held up so far? Has there been any cracking of the pipes from having to bend them to fit? If they hold up, theyll go on my 98 Forester!

So far so good! One thing that might make the install easier is if you cut the little piece of pipe that they tacked the runner together with. I cut that in half later on when I removed the headers and put them back on. Thanks for the comment! -Kasey

Did you end up having to cut that weld that attached the uel near the cat? Lol it was a pain in the butt for me to get it lined up properly. But I'm loving it bro!

Jason Long luckily we got it to line up at the cat! But we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to stretch the headers onto the exhaust ports! Other than that I think they are pretty decent for the price!!!

JK Garage lol definitely! I'm actually working on trying to fit a wrx catback. I failed miserably. The cat flange and the catback flange are totally different sizes. I have to take it to a exhaust shop now

Jason Long is it 3.5 inch by any chance? I was looking at one on amazon it was pretty cheap like $150. I wonder if you just saved me from the same headache!

JK Garage if it's spec d tuning then yes. I think it's the 3" or 3.5". I got it from eBay for like $106. But yeah I had to cut and weld 2" more piping. Even though the mid pipe looks about the same size, the forester is longer. I did have much of the proper tools, maybe that's why. But

I'm in the same boat, except i can't quite provide enough encouragement. I'm about tempted to cut it and weld something back in, but i feel a little hesitant. I snagged the ebay 2.5rs header, which is "technically" for a ej251....tried putting it on my 04, which is a 254. it literally looked the same. something just spooked me about the idea of leaving one side bolted and pulling..... any kind of advice at all?! I'm not ready to give up on these. got em for $80!!!!

I'd recommend cutting the little piece of tubing in the middle of the runners. That should give you some extra wiggle room.

@@JKGarage I think that little tube is there to prevent idiots that have no business modding their cars from installing. You have to prove you've got a brain (by realizing the tube must be cut) before you can proceed...

im planning on doing this to my 02 forester, how hard/long did it take to do the bending any tips

We recommend first cutting the little piece of metal tube that connects the left and right header tubes together. That should give you more wiggle room. It only took us about 20-30 mins of bending and we suggest using your wheel to loop a rachet strap around the headers to pull them the direction you need.

I just put one of these headers onto my 95 legacy wagon. After cutting the little tube that joins the left/right banks together, I was easily able to splay them apart (by hand) so they'd fit. Without cutting the little tube - was NOT gonna happen.

Headers seem to be holding up fine in the cold and I go through a puddle every now and again with no issues.

My 99 forester makes the same noise after EVERY startup. Have you since fixed it?

I think it's the alternator belt slipping. Maybe try a new belt or tightening the existing one.

Put these exact headers on my 02 forester and they burned a hole through my stock oil cooler hose leaving me stranded on the side of the road. :(

I'm pretty sure that Cali doesn't like mods like this... I would check the forums but from what I remember, you'd have to put the stock one back on for smog

them headders were damaged in transit = bend over 1 inch = no good you need to bend them back so as to slide on and bolt up = very bad video and no way .

I've read that most of the ebay/amazon suby headers need some encouragement to bolt on, minor for anyone with any mechanical aptitude considering the price. Win
