This guy is my savior. This video saved me so much headache! I chose this project as my first DIY vehicle repair and didn’t realize how difficult these Subarus were. I was ready to give up after trying to get the bearing out all day until I found this. It was a pain to tap the holes because I had the car on jack stands and not a lift but this worked flawlessly.

This video is awesome! I was heating and banging on a 2018 Subaru outback rear hub and bearing for probably a total of 10 hours between 3 different days. Broke it off with a puller just like this video. Was about to take the whole knuckle off when I found this. Thank alot man, this method worked 100% perfect!

I would have bet this would have worked. Its a great example of how in many cases it should have. In my case after trying this to no eval, I decided to heat the hub with a torch and shock it with cold water. Then using a drift punch to move it slightly clockwise and counter clock wise. I then used a slide hammer on 1 bolt until it finally broke loose. My problem may have been the 1.5 tap instead of the 1.25 you recommended. Great suggestion though. I would try it again. I hope I dont have to.

This is the best hack for removing these on Subaru's had I seen this video before I started I would have saved 12 stressfull hours but 12 is better than 36.

My question for this is how the hell did you get a drill behind the knuckle to tap those threads in?

Tap it with a tap socket holding the tap and use a 3/8" ratchet. Be careful not to break the tap, use cutting oil and take your time. The hole does not need to be drilled.

@@mikejr550 Wish I saw this before I went at it. I ended up putting the tap in a drill and it broke as I was reversing it out. I just ended up using the stuck bit as the "drain plug" and your method worked great. Then it only took a bit of tinkering to get the tap out with some pliers. Not sure if you thought of this on your own or what but its bordering on genius for sure. I tried about 4 other "hacks" and spent hours on each one. Your method took me 20 minutes and thats with me doing the tap incorrectly. Thanks for sharing this with us. I do recommend putting more keywords on your title it was one of the last hacks I could find. Id include some models, and years as this hack will apply to the majority of them. Also include replace and remove, stuck, hack, wheel bearing, as the majority of people will not search removal. Just my 2 cents though.

​@akdesignzzz6796 gotcha. I think the bolts I used as the pusher bolts were old Toyota head bolts. They hold up very well to the abuse.

@@ChangeIGYB That's correct, you need to tap the threads with a tap. Your local auto parts store should have that size tap. Go slow and easy tapping the threads, use some cutting fluid or something as well. Do everything you can to prevent breaking the tap.

Any auto parts store should have an assortment of oil drain plugs to choose from. I'll see if I can find you a part number. What auto parts stores do you have locally?

Dorman part number 090-149.1 is 14x1.25 and should work.

@@mikejr550 Sure I already got the plugs , I was a bit lost with the hub bolt which is M12x 1.25, I will be trying an idea with the hub shocker, it is not effective cause when hammering it, the hub spits in 2 and and it becomes useless, in the next week or two I will try my idea and share it with all the Subaru crazy guys, Cheers
