Remove your accessory belt and see if the problem goes away. The tick sounds like standard injector tick to me.

It’s not a rodknock, it’s probably a pulley that’s wobbling if not then something else

@Meech3k2 ай бұрын
@@feelingood6333 not sure if I posted an update in the past but this Subaru ended up having a blown head gasket and blew the stock turbo up right at 100k miles. It also had a small leak in the steering rack so it would whine when the PS fluid was low.

Have you figured it out? My 07 sti has ticking sounds during idle
@Meech3k4 жыл бұрын
Didn’t do much investigation into this since it sounds like I a standard thing with Subarus and the engine compression was fine. At the time, I did switch to Motul 5-40 and the car ran better on that oil. Although now I’m dealing with a bigger issue of smoke dumping out of the exhaust and some near turbo area..

@@Meech3k In addition to the tick/rattling sound, I notice that there has some spinning noise come with the RPM, the noise is getting louder when the RPM rasing up. I have the same spinning noise with you, do you have any idea on this?

Hey I don't know your car. But I have a 98 legacy with 200 and almost 90,000 miles on it it's been ticking upon idle since I got it at 250k, just keep oil in it and check if you have no problems drive it and enjoy it. It scared me at first but it clearly is not a serious problem. I don't care what anybody tells me I've driven it for two years daily and it's never been an issue. Everyone knows their car better than anyone else and they know how to keep it running

If it's the rattling you hear, it sounds like something is a bit loose and vibrates with increasing RPM. Other than that all I hear is injector tick and "normal Subaru noises". If it were rod bearings it would get louder and faster with a deep almost hollow knock. Valvetrain is more of a light tick. Subaru injectors are normally quite loud. Is there a specific part of the video where the noise you're hearing occurs?
@Meech3k7 жыл бұрын
1:27 is where i hear it peaks. I wrote up the entire issue on Nasioc if you'd like to look forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2847397 Others have said its a normal injector sound as well. Issue is that it just started happening after running the car on really low oil for about 150 miles. During the end of that 150 miles the engine had a really loud knocking noise, much much deeper than the one in the vid.. But thanks for the reply!
@aarallyteamusa7 жыл бұрын
Joey Maynez I'd have to agree with the fine gentlemen on NASIOC regarding your oil. That is a pretty light oil for a boosted car. I personally run Rotella T6 in my 08 daily with 87xxx and she's pretty quiet. Definitely get a kit from Blackstone labs and get an oil analysis done, it's worth it, believe me. Also if you're concerned about bottom end damage, put on the hand brake and slowly, very slowly let the clutch out in 1st. General rule of thumb, if the noise gets louder as normal operation noise gets quieter, the bottom end might be telling knock knock jokes, trying to be funny. But, change your oil as step one and see if that helps with the noise. Report back with your findings!
@Meech3k7 жыл бұрын
Uploaded a video of the method you mentioned.. Doesn't sound good, what are your thoughts? I also updated my nasioc thread with my spark plug change(picture of one) and dry compression test results. All cylinders were between 140-145
@aarallyteamusa7 жыл бұрын
Joey Maynez Well the plugs look about as I'd expect from 12k, and your compression is ok (you want as close to 150 as possible). If there's still knock on cylinder 4 there could be a few things happening; Detonation: getting too hot, fuel ignites before the power stroke or at the top of the compression stroke but I don't hear the detonation ping. Piston slap: Subarus most loveable noise
