@@shafi420 the dormam solenoid is only for the torque converter. the p0971 is for the awd solenoid.

I had an issue the other day with the lock up solenoid for the torque converter. I’m not sure if they’re all the same, even though they appear to be, but I found dorman part number 926-408 and it resolved my problems. Install was pretty easy

You can test the resistance before digging in. There’s a green connector under drivers dash use a multi meter to check ohms If you’ve got a friend with all data or identifix they can pull the wiring diagrams for you. You can also check at the grey connector right above the trans. The red/white wire is for the lock up duty solenoid should be right around 13 ohms. Idk what color for the other solenoids as I only had a problem with one

Were you only getting power to your front wheels? Im hearing grinding and leaning twards the viscous coupler, ive replaced both cv axles and wheel bearings so i know its not those parts crackling​@HughJanus-c7m

I have a 2014 Outback w 170k miles. Just had the same solenoid fail. Just as you described, entire valve body had to be purchased from Subaru dealer @ $975. Mechanic told me local Subaru dealer said they have, "SOLD OVER 1500, YES, 1500 of these parts in last year." Lawsuit?

1000% class action law suit they have sold over 100k of the total from aftermarket to factory it’s a known problem and all cars should be recalled warranty or not not Iam out another 2k because of Subaru and my car shifts perfectly just has hella dash lights and the flashing at oil temp light

Just replaced the TC locking solenoid. Sucked, but far preferable to writing the big check. 220k, '17 Outback.

@@Chula_1986 It was actually my girlfriend at the time's car. When I popped the hood on it there were piles of corrosion on the battery terminals and it BARELY turned over and started. This told me there wasn't good solid current coming out of the battery for starting and other functions like shifting the transmission. I cleaned the terminals very well and the cable connectors. It then started very briskly and shifted normally. She was thrilled!

You should add that this is for a CVT transmission, which will be totally different from the "old-school" 5-EAT five speed transmission on the six-cylinder vehicles.

Clear codes and drive, they are circuit codes nothing to relearn.

Great Vid. Thank you. Due to the solenoids themselves obviously not being a 'servicable part' in the eyes of Subaru - I struggled to find Torque specs for the 10mm bolts holding the plate that holds the solenoids in place. You didnt happen to find anything relating to this when carrying out the repair for your customer? Or, recall what you torqued them to?

I’m genuinely glad I could help. I remember torquing it with my inch pound toque wrench. I’m not sure what it did torque to though sorry. It was a few months ago now and I can happily report that the car is still running properly. The owner uses her car for work and puts a lot of miles on it. I’m definitely going to be confident that this is a viable repair now.

The black and silver bolts that secure the valve body are 9nm, the bolts that secure the cover are 10nm

Question: Did the check engine light come on to alert the owner that there was a problem to begin with? Or did you get the code after connecting it to do the diagnostic?

my friend had this code read at the dealership. they had a few lights come on the dash intermittently, like the a/t light and traction control and one other that i forgot. my scanner couldnt read the code but the dealership read the code as p0971. we are now trying to source the solenoid.

The issue is the parts are usually a few days away if the failure is the solenoid. I would need the car to diagnose that that is in face the issue. The other thing I need to do before we take the transmission apart is to check the overall condition of the transmission. I don’t want to put good parts in a bad transmission. That’s not fair to you and I’m not going to do that. I know that it makes it a bit of a process but it’s to ensure that you are getting a proper repair

What indicator lights were you getting on your dash? I changed my entire vavle body out 100k ago and everything has been fine up until now. Im getting traction control, abs and at oil temp, codes p0103, C1422, C1431 and C1733, car seems to be shifting fine this time around and i cant remember if that was rhe codes i got last time around. i wonder if it could just be low on fluid

Usually when a Subaru turns on its check engine light the cruise control light blinks and at oil temp light on as well. Many cars turn on more than one warning light due to the fact that the different systems work together. When one system has a fault it affects the other systems as well.

Hi there, the same issue started for me on April 8th. I drove it to Indiana to catch the solar eclipse, but before I could come back to Michigan, the car started Xmas tree lights on the dash. Check engine, at oil temp flashing, brake flashing, cruise control flashing, traction control. P0700 TORQUE CONVERTER CODE P2764 TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID CONTROL CIRQUIT LOW VOLTAGE So far, the car feels normal. I just can't find anyone who will touch it!

@funstuff2008 Say your reply thought I'd give you some advice. First, I'm no certified mechanic but what I did was remove the valve body myself and tested the solenoids, one had low resistance, went ahead and purchased a new valve body from subaru for a little under 1k. Problem fix! I will say the most difficult part was adding the cvt fluid back.

@Chula_1986 drove it until the transmission broke. I didn't have much of a choice. I couldn't order the parts and no mechanic or transmission shop would touch my car. Subaru Of America wasn't much help either.

I have read that those aren’t very reliable. I have never personally used them though. If you use them please let me know how it works out for you, I’m always looking for other options.

That price could be right, depending on what the exact diagnosis is. This is not a cheap repair either way. The whole point of this video is to show other techs how to save their customers from having to buy a valve body.

Really too bad this is only sold to businesses. It may have saved my friend who I told them it was their solenoids replaced at 84,000 miles. The dealer said they needed a new CVT which cost about $5500 to replace. They sold their car and got rid of it since the dealer refused to do the right thing and just replace the solenoid.

@@danielhondaguy This company is within an hour of my house. I checked the resistance of this solenoid on the parts bench and it was 12.4 ohms, not the solenoid needed to repair the P0971, AWD solenoid. Quote the parts counter salesman "this is the only one we carry".
