SUBARU vs FORD attempt to climb TEST HILL

A Ford Bronco II tries repeatedly tries to reach the top of Test Hill at Silver Lake sand dunes. Later a stock Subaru travels up the hill in the same path and makes it without getting stuck shaming a large number of 4 wheel drives. Everybody watching was left scratching their heads.

@andrew3448 3 жыл бұрын
@@elonmust7470 I didn't say it was a rough place - although, i have to say not everyone in western NC even uses the blue ridge parkway a lot use the regular two/four lane highways which do not close. Blue Ridge closes since it is basically a tourist destination. Just using my own experience to affirm that subaru has AWD well integrated into all of their cars and at an affordable price point which is key and this shows since subarus are much more common in nearly any place in the US that has a mix of mountainous terrain and snow (New England, Colorado, Southern Appalachian range).

Growing up by silver lake and spending a lot of time on the sand dunes you can tell who is use to riding trails and who knows how to drive on sand. it dosn't take much of a vehicle to drive on sand but takes a little bit of a different knowledge than people are use to. was out running with a friend in his FJ40 and kept getting stuck on the hills. when i asked him he about tier pressure he was running at about 15psi. i told him to drop it to 10 but he was worried about blowing a bead. until finally he got stuck and i just dump out and downed his pressure to 10. had no trouble the rest of the day.

I have owned 2 4WD trucks, a Ford and a Toy Tacoma, each with AT tires vs my Subaru Forester. The Forester out climbs easily. Also, 3 times rescued 4WD trucks with AT tire stuck in snow. The Subie just gets it done, quietly and in comfort. Not sure how Subaru does it, but it works.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 жыл бұрын
@@rhensontollhouse Power to weight ratio. Most of today's vehicles have way too much power so all they do is lose traction and dig 4 holes, doesn't get you through the mud, sand, snow...just gets you stuck deeper and faster. The older vehicles did better because they might have less power but it was going to traction rather than spinning wheels...whoever was driving that Bronco 2 needs a restart on driving skills, and not start at the very base of the hill...poor thing only has like 140HP on a good day LOL...and the dang weight of them makes them very sluggish on flat ground let alone trying to climb up a hill of sand LOL. I have an 88 Bronco 2, and with the anemic 2.9L V6 and slush box automatic it has a hard enough time getting out of its own way but it does great in ice and snow because it don't have enough power to spin the tires off of it like today's vehicles do, and the weight is a bit more proportional to the vehicle front to rear, unlike today's bloated size trucks with heavy engines up front.

That’s a bronco II, the crappy Bronco. Not to be mistaken for the 1979 model of bronco Or the 1980-86 model of the normal bronco. Those are the best off roading vehicles.

The Bronco 2 was based on the Ranger, it would make it up the hill if someone knew how to drive it. 79-96 was the full size Bronco...but the original Bronco came out in 1965 the 79-96 Bronco was based off the F-Series pickups...the original Bronco was based off itself, it had its own frame rather than being based off another vehicle. I'd love an 80's or 90's Bronco, but a 65-77 would be great too. I have an 88 Bronco 2, it does just fine, unlike the piss poor driving skills of whoever was driving the one in the video. They're no speed daemon, but they'll do more than you would figure they could given their piss poor power output. Those old Subaru's will go places you wouldn't think a car could go...the older ones with true 4WD were even better, and some of them had low range as well.

I used to take my nearly stock (had 31x10.5 tires was about it) 1980 Toyota truck and race the bigblock guys with me going up backwards... More is not always more... Light weight and good flotation matter a lot.
