Glad to see you're back on the road!!! Those water features can be tricky and deceptive, for sure. We run into that there, and over on the east coast in the forests and pine barrens too.

Yeah, we need to laugh at ourselves sometimes. As long as we learn from our mistakes, that is. Thanks for the comment.

That same water hole got us last year 😂😭

It looks so shallow! LOL I went through this same water hole last year (see my other dunes video) and made it through four times but must have hit a deeper spot this year. What a mess! All cleaned up now though, including the front differential that got water/sand in it through the breather tube.

Couldn't quite tell from the video - did you shut down right away - or leave it running? Glad to see you didn't damage the motor.
@naamangeist7843 Жыл бұрын
I shut it down immediately, not that I feared hydrolock - the hydro-guide hood did it's job well - but because of the submerged electrical components, seeing I wasn't sure where all of them were located. Turns out some electrical controls did get wet because when I tried to restart (after recovery), everything was glitchy. Headlights were flashing, windshield wipers were running with the switch off, the dashboard was going crazy, even the horn was honking on it's own. I disconnected the battery and was towed by the recovery jeep to the parking lot, where I let it set overnight, and the next day everything was back to normal, other than the slight difficulty starting the motor due to the exhaust system being filled with water. Everything returned to normal, other than the reverse and trail cam stopped working and the shifter started acting crazy weeks later. Both have been fixed since and it's running great now. Oh, I also had to drain the front differential, clean with brake cleaner and fill with new fluid. The breather tube ends just above the from wheel well, which was below the water level.

Yeah, you should always drive into a body of unfamiliar water...lucky it wasn't a few foot deeper.
@naamangeist7843Ай бұрын
Actually, it wasn't an unfamiliar body of water. I have another video on here from the year prior where I made it through just fine. That's why I went looking for it again this year. It must have been deeper than I remembered from the previous year or was deeper in just that exact spot. Either way, no harm done. Just had a mess to clean up. SEND IT!

I didn't know you could pop those straps like that - I don't know if I would w/o a helmet:-)
@naamangeist78432 ай бұрын
If you're referring to the kinetic recovery rope, it stretches, applying kinetic energy gradually, rather that a sudden jolt of a tow strap.
@Scott23412 ай бұрын
@@naamangeist7843 Huh, so it's made to use like that?
@naamangeist78432 ай бұрын
Yes, that's exactly what it's made for. Do a channel search for Matt's Offroad Recovery and you'll see these are his primary tools for this task.
