We have ordered the 2022 2.0l S due mid January 2023. Wife didn't want a big SUV for commuting and ferrying the kids around so ideal vehicle for her. Our 6ft 3 son can fit in the rear which most small cars don't have the space.

Simple answer, is the hybrid better/worth it? - No. If you want hybrid tech, get a Toyota. This hybrid has no major fuel economy benefits.

Same as the Forester, the hybrid was completely pointless.

the eBoxer forester and Crosstrek hybrids in Australia (or equivalent markets) are less than useless with minimal fuel savings. the US Plug in hybrid model does offer some advantages in fuel savings as long as the car is driven on state highways or stop and go traffic (45-55 mph). however, it doesn't offer much in savings at 65 mph and above, additionally though the instant torque is welcome and i loved driving it on side roads and state highways. Not so much on highways

If they won't put the 2.5 litre unit in it the absolute least they couldve done is offer the 6 sp manual option. Even the US gets those options and Australia is one of Subarus biggest markets. Really disapointing . The 2.0 with the CVT is mediocre at best. Their CVT is great it's just the nature of what it is a CVT. Would've made a good little car a car great. Lost a buyer here. I'm a Subi manual loyalist.

Im in the UK, I had a 2016 Outback and was a fabulous car. The 2.5 engine is the one to have over here. I dont think I could get the 2 litre now after having the larger unit. It had more than enough pull and power on a daily basis. Its how you use the CVT, needs to be understood and once you get to grips with it you NEVER need to floor the accelerator. It flies with very little effort when you know how.

I don't really get the hard on for the 2.5l engine, I've driven a ton of different utes and vans working in construction with larger engines, when I jump in 2 litre small cars I always feel like I have so much power and acceleration, what are you doing that you need a 2.5l that's just going to burn more fuel?
@Tommass792 жыл бұрын
The US market has acted on correcting the asthmatic 2ltr by producing a 2.5ltr a great move! as a owner of a late 2018 VX I can add support to this review regarding the engine performance.

Thats why in the UK I had the Outback, its the only model with the 2.5 engine which is great over here. The new Outback is again the only model still with the 2.5 so id have to go for that really.

Honestly is the boxer engines really future proof? They have never been powerful or efficient…why do they keep bothering? Just use normal 4cyl turbos
@kineticinstallationspecial57753 жыл бұрын
The hybrid in the transmission is probably just to keep the CVT from blowing up from the stresses put on it at low rpm.
@server1ok2 жыл бұрын
No. The Hybrid is there to lower the MPG ! to add 600 Pounds to the Vehicle and to add + 40 % to the MSRP.. oh ... and to please the European Politicians ..

almost at 200,000 kms on my 2012 XV, paid AUD1600 to get rid of the christmas lights that came on at 170,000kms which happened to be the transmissions computer issue. Nevertheless the CVT and engine still chugging on the exact same as when I bought it. Yes the CVT feels like your driving under water but never struggled to overtake on the highway and has more than enough power than you need. I get 6.5L/100km, which is pretty damnned good for my 85km commute to work (twice a week). Nothing else I had with the vehicle so far. All in all I feel like I am driving quite a reliable car and was worth the money I paid for it. Paid $12,000 for it at 140,000kms!!
@server1ok2 жыл бұрын
@@RA-ce8ks it's not a Hybrid though. The hybrid adds 300 kg and lowers the MPG unless you drive it daily to keep the battery maxed. The XV hybrid also hides the EV motor in the transmission and is a pain to access. Since a 100 % of Japanese Cars are Hybrid only ( since EU 2021 ) I bought a French Car. This is a hidden way that EU props up its domestic market, one of many ways

it's amazing how pointless the Subaru hybrid systems are. They cost more, give tiny power boosts and use more fuel, surely it defeats the purpose? As for the XV, check out an owners group before buying one - I don't think any current owners would recommend one, and I don't think any 2021 updates are going to change those opinions.

I've got the 2.0i-S 2018 model (bought in 2017) and have nearly 100,000km on it. It's been a great car, but yes it's main downside is the lack of power. The only thing that's gone wrong with it is the A/C compressor died recently, and cost $1300 to fix as I only got 3 years warranty. I now have a hybrid RAV4 and it's SOOOOOO much better!! Highly recommend these SUVs. It only uses 5 litres/100km compared to the XV which is over 7, and it's a much bigger and more powerful car.

Seems to sum up Subaru Australia in general, they seem to not understand or have any interest in cars any more...

They are 100% using allot less fuel, in the city that is. On the highway they use the same as a normal car.

I've had mine ( UK) for a year now and I won't be changing it any time soon. Ok, many will say 2L engine - Yuk, CVT gearbox - nah, no thanks. Yes, it's quirky. Yes, it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but its comfortable, practical and reasonably economical considering the AWD system is permanent. Recommend it? In a heartbeat.
