@melmelcorvette4 жыл бұрын
@jordy rozon it’s just because I’ve had experience with all of them. Where I live I need 4wd. If it’s any crap that’s going to get you through it’s going to be a Mercedes equipped with the correct tires snow tires.
@mattyee93694 жыл бұрын
@Shuffle3956 I disagree. Subaru offers 4 versions of it's symmetrical awd. Also does so with less components. It isn't designed with add ons to make a rwd an awd, or a fwd an awd. It's designed around the awd systems. Here are the versions: 1. Viscous Coupling Center Differential AWD. This system is used for the Impreza, WRX, Crosstrek and Forester equipped with manual transmissions, excluding the WRX STI. 2. Active Torque Split AWD. This system is used in the Subaru Legacy and Outback models (excluding WRX) equipped with the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). 3. Variable Torque Distribution AWD. This system is exclusive to the WRX with the Sport Lineartronic CVT. This AWD system delivers sportier performance and superior efficiency all at once. 4. Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) AWD. The Subaru WRX STI features this ultimate in high-performance AWD system that is completely unique in the industry. I've had Quattro before, and it's decent in snow. But for what's going on in this video, I wouldn't take an Audi on these trails. Not to mention the weight of German cars, not to mention with awd added. Subarus aren't designed with fwd options with awd added. It's way more balanced with a low center of gravity. 4matic on Mercedez as someone mentioned, is added to a rwd or fwd and doesn't fully kick in until slippage occurs.
@mattyee93694 жыл бұрын
@@melmelcorvette Mercedes isn't built around awd. It is a rwd vehicle with awd added on, so it's heavy and off balance. It also doesn't kick in until it senses it needs to, but going up icy mountain roads, or gravel hills, it may be too late and you can't get traction after momentum is lost. Verses Subaru's where it's all the time. Subaru also has 4 versions of their awd systems. Not to mention they are significantly lighter, and lower center of gravity. Also if it is raining hard, and you are on the freeway, you could hydroplane if you hit a collection of water too fast. Or have to swerve to avoid an accident. Full time awd reins supreme in reaction time and handling.
@melmelcorvette4 жыл бұрын
@@mattyee9369 the whole Subaru chasis is off balance. As far as all wheel drive kick in and take a look at the new Land Rover defender and uses the same technology and it works great. Your Subaru I will drive system has a Haldex awd and over heats when you try to awd. Mercedes Benz awd on c,e, ml, s class all have proper awd. Used it for years in Colorado.

It's way better off-road than on-road. I've had mine (CVT) for 3 years. Anemic torque and acceleration has almost killed me a few times in intersections turning from a stop. But inclines, declines, loose dirt are no problem because the traction control is amazing.

is a slow car??? I want to buy one, but people tell me the cvt is just the worst of all, and I only can get it on CVT
@Ol_Mase8 жыл бұрын
Very slow. Car and Driver lists the 0-60mph time at 10.1 seconds. I have new exhaust and air intake and have never been able to do 0-60 in under 11 seconds. The problem is a combination of a tiny engine, an electronic throttle, and the CVT. Once the car is moving it can increase speed better with the paddle shifters but you have to plan for a slow response and very high RPMs.

I agree that the front overhang needs to be shortened by a few inches, but I am guessing Subaru designed it, the way it is, for better crash test results...? Longer front end = better front crash protection, better safety??? Just guessing though. I still want one, awesome little car for the urban jungle.

Just got a 2014 130k miles spent the first week fixing things. Trans P0700 and P2764 new solinoid and fluid flush $$$, AC worked for 3 days then all leaked out, Rear hatch is leaking spare tire tub fills with water, front passenger side diff axles seal is leaking. I'm sure there's more just haven't found it yet. Wish it had more power and can't stand the CVT trans so much for smooth. The trans in my 06 scion tc 253k miles is noticably smoother through the gears not a CVT. Mine will never go off roading as its very hard on suspension and drive train and I don't want to work on this thing more than I already had to. Do like the orange color and they are cool looking cars. But if I could I'd return it and get something else. I've wanted a subaru for 15 years and now kinda over it.

A Subaru with traction control is better than a Jeep with open diffs and no TC in a lot of circumstances. I have a Subaru 4x4 with a welded rear diff and it puts a lot of big 4x4s to shame. But a Subaru won't come close to a Jeep with diff locks or even traction control.

If you buy a jeep you're buying a brand name and the engines are nothing impressive. The only difference is Jeeps have been turned into rockers and muders and thats why they're the "go to car" for off road. When I was living in the Midwest every year I had to pull out big jeeps and 4x4 trucks but never a subaru.
