Hey Matt! Ever since I started to watch this channel I always thought it would be cool to have a series where you look and compare just the base models of these “premium” car brands or entry level for each of them for the average joe to see each entry level compared to others. I couldn’t think of any other car reviewer or journalist I would enjoy that from more than you. Also great video!

Thanks for the suggestion! I've thought it would be cool to show what a base model is like on every car I review, but unfortunately base models are pretty hard to even find on dealer lots, and the press fleets never have them because they usually want to show the nicest version possible. Honestly I was surprised this Q5 was the mid-grade Premium Plus and not the Prestige.

One thing worth mentioning is that this has "quattro with Ultra" so a lot of the "DSG smoothness" issues can be linked to the rear end engaging/disengaging. The First-Gen Q5s and all SQ5s have permanent Torsen AWD (aka quattro) which does not have this issue. This can feel like an indecisive clutch... which it is... just not in the DSG but rather in the differentials.

Great point, thanks Tim!

This Q5 does look quality. It’s tech forward look over overly Plush, and flashy. I am a sucker for quiet cabins with a little engine growl

It's a good all-rounder. That plug-in 55 verison seems like an interesting option

You should have invested some own music to review the vehicle sound systems right ? Thank you.

I used to think that Audi's grilles were huge. But then Toyota had to do a thing. Anyway, nice luxo barge.

Don't forget BMW's monstrosity of a grill, Audi's grills look tame now a days

Very nice. Audis are beautiful. But 50k for a small SUV with a 4 cil engine?! I don't know.

It's much faster than V6s (and even some V8s) from the past... Doesn't sound very good but it is fast (for a non-performance SUV).

Just buy it after a year or two. Most new cars are overpriced anyways and depreciate a lot
@mfmf1003 жыл бұрын
That’s normal now. Remember the average new car is 41, and this things definitely nicer than average.

Costco car buying program says you can get the base mode premium for about 41-43k

Too bad the 2.0T in the Q3 gets less power than the version in the Q5.
@tim31723 жыл бұрын
It's basically down to the exhaust layout. The Q3 is transversely mounted rather than the longitudinal arrangement in the Q5 which leads to better power efficency. The Q3 also gets the 8-speed torque converter auto rather than the DSG, which is good for maintenance and longevity. The mechatronics in DSGs don't always age well and are very expensive to repair.
@digitaldoc1003 жыл бұрын
@@tim3172 I think the Q3 is underpowered for the price. It also has an iron block, what adds to weight and hurts the performance.

Cadillac xt5 is actually much better than this theres even so many reviews talking about it on videos just because its foreign doesn't mean its better or good

Maybe if a blind person were to describe both to someone else over the phone... Then it might be somewhat easy to confuse the two.

I could understand your comment if it made ANY sense at all. It doesn't though. This doesn't look remotely similar to any generation of the Rav4.
