I review the 2015 Ford Mustang V6. Which would you rather have, the V6 or the EcoBoost? Huge thanks to Guillermo and his girlfriend for driving all the way from Maryland so I could review his car!

kkthxk The minute the 3.7 Cyclone went into the car in 2011, that car developed quite the following. Lots of online groups dedicated to those motors. Plenty of all-motor 3.7s running in the 12's on KZbin.

kkthxk Personally I would prefer the V6 over the 4 cylinder. I just prefer normally aspirated engines. Of course the V8 would be my number one choice and is what I plan to get in my next Mustang.

Why does the speedo say "Ground Speed"? Does it have a seperate one for the boat feature or the airplane feature?
@MattMaranMotoring
@MattMaranMotoring 9 жыл бұрын
Haha it's because the Mustang was named after the P-51 Mustang airplane.
@jtkent28
@jtkent28 9 жыл бұрын
Well technically it should say "airspeed" then ; )
@cooper6585
@cooper6585 9 жыл бұрын
No. Ground speed is correct, as speed relative to ground. Air speed, or IAS (Indicated Air Speed) is done via a propeller or pressure differential to measure speed, and changes with altitude.
@jtkent28
@jtkent28 9 жыл бұрын
I guess what I meant to say was the dial should say airspeed if they are trying to make it airplane like, as the dial or indicator in an airplane reads IAS as you said (indicated airspeed).
@cooper6585
@cooper6585 9 жыл бұрын
jtkent28 No, there are two indications, air speed and ground speed. Ground speed is more precise, therefore as this is directly measured from the ground, this is correct.

I just bought the 2016 Ecoboost in black with premium package. And was very close to buying the V8 but decided against it. The V6 was never in consideration for a few reasons. First you cant get the premium package on it which you can on ecoboost base model and GT base model. The premium package takes the car to another level with all the features. Not saying the V6 is bad but you have to sit inside one to really know. I had the ecoboost with premium package as a rental for a week then went in and test drove the V6 and the GT without premium package. I was happy with the V6 and GT until I got inside and saw all that nice technology and leather missing. Also plan on getting the exhaust upgraded for my ecoboost. Also the ecoboost get better gas mileage then the V6.

Yeah, I agree with this review 100% - I haven't driven the 2015, but everything considered, that's my take on it. It really is still a great car, and at that price point it's REALLY hard to beat. So if you don't plan on modifying it, and you're comfortable with the power it makes, definitely the most efficient way to place your money, that's for sure....and in autoX it'll out-handle even a Focus ST which will run like 5k more, so it's hard to knock it too much.

As a 2013 V6 owner, I think Ford did a bad move by basically neglecting the V6 this year entirely. Hopefully when the new V8 comes out (or the Coyote is overhauled to have 450-500 hp if not more) then there will be an ecoboost V6. A turbo V6 now would no doubt come dangerously close to the GT in terms of performance, the GT right now is pretty bottle-necked since the entire car has been overhauled but the engine has remained relatively untouched. The I4 should take over as the base model, the eco V6 should be middle ground and take over the performance role of the GT, and the GT should have its price less restricted and be allowed to cost S40-55k and have performance almost comparable to the older GT500s. Another option would be to go the route of Dodge and offer multiple V8's (Doesn't the new Challenger have like 2 or 3 different V8 engines with multiple configurations? That's pretty insane).

Just a thought; don't call the back seat space great and then go ahead 30 seconds later and say only for if you're shorter or a child. If it was great, I get the impression it is good for everyone. Love the videos, I just wanted to share my 2 cents

Speed is not that important to me. It may seem strange, but I am cross shopping the 2015 Mustang V6 against the 2015 Subaru BRZ. I have not driven either car yet, but will be soon. My next car must be fun to drive and handle well. Not far from my home are some excellent twisty roads and that's where you'll find me when I want to have some fun. It also must have enough power to get me safely on to the highway and the V6 has plenty of power to do that. I very much appreciate the small back seat of both cars for the ability to toss a jacket back there, or store a laptop on the floor etc. Pure 2 seat sports cars are nice, but I don't want to live with the extreme compromises. That is why I won't buy a used Porsche Cayman in the same price range, as much as I like the car.

+Robert Devoy BRZ sucks, my friend got it and is obsessed with my 2015 v6 stang to the point where i think he wishes he had it instead. Its honestly an amazingly fun car to drive. Meanwhile, the BRZ has half the power, literally of the v6. 200hp and 150 torque vs 305 hp and 280 torque. if u want a subaru get the wrx, the brz is a joke. very tiny too for passengers
@satoshimilk
@satoshimilk 9 жыл бұрын
@Robert Devoy I was in the same dilemma as you. I had a 2013 manual Scion tC and wanted to have a faster sportier looking ride so I looked into the 2015 BRZ since its damn near identical to the FRS, I went to the dealership and test drove it, the car was beautiful but when I took out on the street it was all bark no bite, there was absolutely no torque even in the lower gears so I ended up driving back disappointed but I was at a ford dealership so I seen the 2016 mustangs that I had in the back of my mind. I asked to test drive one that was a manual v6 since they were so affordable but all they had were the automatics so I test drive that instead and man it's like night and day, there was so much more torque and then I put it into sport mode and that was it I took it home as my new baby. So in my personal opinion I would chose the mustang like I did if you like the look of the car and want something with a lot more hp and torque. Although the BRZ handled very nice but no balls!!!
@robertdevoy3119
@robertdevoy3119 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for he input it's been very helpful. I'm sure the BRZ is off my list of possibilities. For one thing the car is too damn noisy and it sounds like crap when revved. I'll either get the Mustang V6 or wait a bit for a used BMW 228.
@mckookie2967
@mckookie2967 9 жыл бұрын
Robert Devoy I own what he got too, an automatic v6. It turns way more heads than most cars out there especialy a brz. U cant even compare the two since the brz is not even a sports car, im pretty sure a fiesta st has more power tbh. its just light but like i said so is the wrx. Mustang handles very well with the new IRS suspension. The car just won Hottest car award at SEMA

I believe they kept the V6 because of 1. Rental Fleets 2. People buying vehicles for their kids do not want to buy their kids anything with 8 cylinders or a turbo. All the teenage girls (and some boys) driving this will ask their parents and they will say "yes" if only to a base model without the largest or more powerful engine.

The V6 is an awesome buy for a lot of people. That 3.7 is one of the best motors the Mustang has ever had in it, including V8's. Forged crank, reinforced block, 6-bolt main bearings...just to name a few. Fords arbitrary decision to not offer a Premium or Performance Package with it was too bad.

Nice review. I just bought a 2016 Mustang V6 with the automatic. I chose the V6 over the Ecoboost because the horsepower rating is with regular unleaded & not Premium like the ecoboost. The V6 makes 300-hp on regular vs 275-hp on the ecoboost on regular. Insurance for me was identical on both cars. Maybe because I'm 51 years old. This is the best Mustang I've ever owned by far.

300 Hp and 280 ft. lb is no joke. V8 Mustang GT's only had 260 in the early 2000's. I would say today, V6 is the choice. Remember these are now MID-level engines, not entry level. the 2016 Camaro is going to have 335. Something a v8 owner could only wish for stock just a few years ago.

I own a 2016 Mustang V6 and highly recommend it over the ecoboost. The V6 exhaust sounds like the V8.... sounds soooo much better than the ecoboost and this engine is actually a few tenths quicker 0-60 than ecoboost. I have raced a couple ecoboost mustangs and every time I pull ahead slightly despite the advertised peak HP ratings on paper being slightly higher on the turbo 4. Less to break down the road with a N/A engine. And better throttle response off the line too. V8 is nice but less than 1 second quicker to 60 and like $6k more plus higher insurance? Not worth it. This car will smoke 99% of cars on the road. I got the 051 package which gives you fog lights, premium rims and some other stuff... remote start etc.

+morphanok69 I love it. The selling point for me was the V6 engine sounds like the V8, much more so than the ecoboost. Ecoboost sounds like any other ford 4cyl. Sure the V8 is better but again for $6k more, and less than 1 second quicker 0-60, I'll take the V6 with the lower insurance rates. Car looks identical to the V8 minus the badging. I do recommend the 051 package which includes upgraded rims, fog lights and a few other things, power seat etc. Btw remote start is standard on automatics along with paddle shifters, not available on manual.

Thank you for reviewing a v6! I have a 2012 v6 Camaro and they can be forgotten, even though they are incredible standalone cars. Obviously a v8 is king, but there's something about revving out a v6 and hearing that sexy induction noise that does it for me. I prefer naturally aspirated engines and you can't beat the Camaro/Mustang for the money. I'm tempted to get a Mustang someday because of the interior quality and visibility...however I love my Camaro and I've had zero issues with it.

good review. I just bought a new 2016 and have to say I went in ready for ecoboost, but opted for V6 for several reasons. first, regardless of HP or power band it's still just a 4 banger. The V6 works less and will have a longer life. second, ecoboost is just a new name for a turbo and they have the potential to break down. third, the sound of the V6 is a nice warm rumble whereas the eco sounds like a ratty little 4 cylinder when you rap out the accelerator. gas mileage difference is little as I think eco drivers will be more likely to be "dipping in" to the power around town. You're absolutely right about the interior. The standard carbon fibre dash is 10xs better looking than the cheesy brushed silver looking premium dash as is the white stitching on the seats over plain leather. Mine also came with the auto trans and paddle shifter, which is a must! With the difference in cost I was able to get it in convertible which is without a doubt the single most pleasurable feature of any car. After 2 days I love it even more than the first. I think the V6 is a proven classic and the market 10 years from now will be flooded with burnt out ratty 4 cylinder ecos.

You nailed it. I went to buy a '17 ecoboost premium and left with a v6 fastback. I even made the sales guy take 2 different ecoboosts out, just to be certain. In the end, the v6 was more fun to drive, about $8k less expensive (NY prices), sounded better, and I had greater confidence in the reliability department. The fuel economy is a gimmick imo, and if you put 93 in a v6 it will give you a little extra hp and performance anyway. As far as the options go, I wasn't impressed with the leather and I find big infotainment screens very distracting. The v6 offers everything you need in a daily sports car. It's plenty fast and you save money which can be used for mods. Really, the only downside is dumb kids constantly asking if it's a GT.

Won't fit is my guess. The 3.5 EB actually takes up more space then the 5.0 and it is already a tight fit in the 15. I'm guessing the 2.7 ran into other clearance problems. Didn't want to redesign the engine so they dropped in the 2.3l that they were developing for the new focus.

I've got a 2015 V6 convertible, it's really been a great car, and it's got the option package that includes nicer wheels, driving lights and power seats (which I could do without). It's been very reliable (except for Sync... Sync sucks). A couple of years ago I was able to take it on a Route 66 trip... North Carolina to Chicago to LA then north to San Francisco and home. Over 8,000 miles and for one or two people I can't think of a better modern car for the trip.

It is true, the Mustang is a great car all the way from the base to the 350R. Personally I like the sound of a lighter front end and more torque (40 more lbs ft isn't nothing) in the eco boost, but no doubt the base model is a 10/10 for the price. Great value!

what really makes me laugh about the 2015 v6 is that ford detuned the v6 when they added the ecoboost so they could say the ecoboost makes more power and sell it for a higher sticker price. The 2011-2014 v6 are quite a bit quicker than both 2015 ecoboost and v6, 5 more HP and lighter.

Nice drive. What makes the car fun is the manual transmission. Very very hard to find a 2015 to 2017 V6 with a manual. Most of them were rental cars with the automatic. Too bad Ford did not continue to develop this engine. It could easily have had 330 hp with 300 ft lbs of torque and still get 25+ mpg. Less complicated than a 4 cyl turbo. Oh well. An electric Mustang in a few years may be the best solution. If Camaro and Challenger can continue to offer a V6, why not Ford?

As a proud owner of a 2015 V6 mustang, I would honestly like to know something. How is there less mod potential for the V6 versus the Ecoboost? All I have to do is slap on a procharger and get an extra 130-160HP more than it has, putting it at 460HP. The ecoboost is already turbocharged, so there's not much more you can do to it. I can also upgrade the exhaust, get new headers, H or X pipe, pulley system, and cool air intake with a bigger throttle body. I could EASILY get my V6 up to 500-550HP to the rear wheels. I'm no mechanic, so maybe I'm mistaken, but it would just seem to me that if you put the same turbocharger in the V6, it would demolish the 4 cylinder in speed and power, no to mention all the other mods I threw out there. I love this car, by the way! Amazing handling and so much fun to drive! I have the automatic, but putting it in standard mode and using the paddle shifters is really awesome as well! I've had so much fun with it. Anybody who is more experienced than I on this subject, please weigh in. I'd like to know more. Thanks!

***** Well, here me out. At least here in Texas, the V6 start around $26K, while the Ecoboost starts around $29-$30K. With that extra $3-$4K saved on the V6, would you not be able to turbo or supercharge the V6 and make it much more powerful than the Ecoboost? A supercharger should give at LEAST an extra 100HP. The procharger claims to give an extra 160HP. After that, the other mods aren't too expensive. Like some headers, H pipe, upgraded exhaust, cold air intake, a pulley system, and a tuner. Could a 4 cylinder even handle all of those mods, and even if so, could it put out as much or more power than the V6 using the same mods? Just doesn't seem plausible. But again, I'm no mechanic. I could absolutely be wrong here.

***** Also, I absolutely LOVE my V6. Even it being a completely base model, it feels like it's got so many upgrades. I feel like I'm sitting in a cockpit of an aircraft while driving it, haha! Then again, I'm not use to having all of the extra stuff. My main vehicle is a Toyota Tundra (which I hate, but need for work). I've never had a vehicle with so many extras. It does not feel like a base model at all.

***** your logic makes no sense. Whether its an import or domestic either a supercharger or turbo doesnt make it rice or muscle. Whats your saying is just ignorance. Also because an engine is bigger doesnt make it better. If your going for a 10000 hp car yeah a bigger engine just makes sense. But anything under 2000hp alot of smaller engines can achieve the same as a bigger engine.

2 reasons i would get the v6 over the ecoboost. 1. If someone asks "What kind of Mustang you got?" You have to reply "I got that ecoboost." It just sounds embarrassing to me. 2. The ecoboost doesn't sound as good as a v6.... unless you got an aftermarket exhaust. But you could do that to the v6 as well.
