This car is fucking fantastic, this is coming from a BMW enthusiast. The engine sound is phenomenal, it honestly sounds better than the 2018 Audi Q5 TFSI. The handling and transmission system are excellent, sports mode+manual mode is so fun to drive, and yes 0-60 mph is faster than advertised. The gears actually do something in this car... no CVT bullcrap like most new Non German SUV's. The interior is very quiet, MAY I ADD, it's SEXY as hell!
@kevman9496 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I drive a 2012 Audi A5 and would actually consider this car. I test drove the new Q5 and hated it. This car is 20 grand cheaper for most everything these luxury crossovers have.

@enthused75916 жыл бұрын
as far as long-term reliability goes, I've come to really prefer a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine with at least 160 horse and 160 torque. I'm a big fan of Toyota's older 2.7 motor they used in the Tacoma. Super simple, reliable, no extra heat, wear, or complexity from forced induction. Mazda's doing a lot right. i hope people recognize it and buy these. It helps that the MX5, CX3 and CX5 are very good looking.

I lease a 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring with the premium package. I had really wanted to get another Mazda 3 to replace the one going off-lease, or the revamped 6 with the turbocharged engine, but my wife strongly disliked those cars as too sporty with uncomfortable seats. She liked the 5 a lot, and, now having driven it for the past 6 months, the car has grown on me. It's comfortable, with a well controlled ride, and it handles very well. Matt, you neglected to point out that the GT with the premium package also has a windshield de-icee feature. I am very happy with the safety systems, which includes blind side monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning/braking and ESC. I rarely use the sport mode. Unlike other cars I've driven with a sport mode, which basically just changed the transmission shift points and raised downshift sensitivity, the CX-5 becomes a whole different, high revving beast. Living in an outer borough of New York City, sport mode is of limited usefulness to me. I find normal mode has adequate acceleration for highway merging and passing. Some other nice features in my CX-5 GT that I like include the following: ---HUD display, which aside from your speed shows you navigation system info like next turn with direction to turn arrows, distance to next turn and exit numbers; cruise control setting; and a graphic indicating your following distance from the car in front of you; traffic sign icons (it "sees" stop signs and speed limit signs). ---Adaptive cruise control that allows the autonomous braking system to slow the car down when the car in front of you slows down, then speeds up when that car speeds up or shifts lanes (or you do). ---Adaptive headlights that turn slightly when you turn the car, to assist you with seeing inside corners at night. ---Sunroof with vent position and sliding shade ---The rear seats can recline about 15-20 degrees ---The rear seats are 40-40-20, not 60-40 split. The middle position can fold down to provide space for long objects. Now there are some negatives, from my perspective. Like Matt pointed out, the brakes are on the soft side and have some pedal travel to them that you have to adjust to. I disagree with Matt regarding interior noise, I think it's a little noisy, but definitely better than my old 3 sedan. There's no roof rack option. I would have liked side lights to illuminate the side area of the car when the doors are unlocked or opened. All in all, a great car that is engaging to drive, trouble-free and a real looker.

Really is a surprisingly fun to drive crossover. Girlfriend has the same car (but with black interior) and even as a Golf R owner, I find myself wanting to grab the keys to it at least a couple times a week. Not a ton of power from a dead stop, but very responsive transmission once you're moving and great steering weight as well. Combined with the clean design and upscale interior, Mazda really did an excellent job on this vehicle.

I've had one for a few months now (the 17 model). I think the best way to up it up is this car is all about communication. it doesn't go fast, it does not handle like a sedan (in terms of raw cornering). It does have body roll. but the best thing by far, is it responds to the input you give it and it communicates everything the car feels back to the driver. Not in the harsh sense, but you are always aware of how the car is handling at all times. It was actually this communication that sold me on it. It doesn't feel like a utility, its a car first with a utility body, there are compromises because of this, but it knows where it's roots are. some other thing, Having fully loaded this on long trips, I do feel like the braking just isn't as strong as the competition. It does take a bit to stop the car with some cargo and passengers. The good thing is it again it communicates really well where that limit is, so i've never really had a major issue with it, but in a pinch the weight shows.
@MattMaranMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Great insight, thanks!
@basileleftheriades97366 жыл бұрын
It goes fast, when I say fast I mean relative to other SUV's not comparing it here to things three times the price, use sports mode and drive it in manual, it's faster than advertised 0-60
@lucaszavala29536 жыл бұрын
I've heard the mpg goes up as you break the motor in. Have you experienced this on yours? I still have under 1,000 miles on mine so the jury is still out.
@skifree06 жыл бұрын
I've never really felt that, it's more on driver than anything else. I love to drive this thing in sport mode. the way it keeps revs high almost like a manual car I definately pay in terms of fuel economy. I average about 10.6L/100km (22mpg) in heavy city driving and hard (uneconomical) driving. However I'm sure with reasonable driving it is achievable. The time I took it to a trip with highway, I averaged 7.8L/100km (30.1mpg) the entire trip right inline with the highway ratings. But improving after break-in, I think it's more of a misnomer. Fuel economy ratings as reported by the computer is pretty sensitive during the first part of it's life, Just because there isn't enough km on the car to average out the sensor data. Add in the varying rpms to break the engine in, and the numbers are going to be read worse off. but in terms of "cost I pay at the pump", it's been more or less the same.

We purchased a new CX5 in January. What a great car for the money compared to other mid-sized SUV's. Lot's of neat stuff is included. One of the features to mention is the standard "G-Vectoring Control". Some cylinders will deactivate and the suspension changes when you take a corner fast and you don't get the weight shift shoving you into the door. Had to try that out the 1st day and was totally impressed. And it's true, people think you've given a lot more for it than you actually spent.

Hi Matt, love your videos. One point of advice that I would like to ask is when you go to the driving section if you can set up a camera as a POV screen of what its like to see in front and put that in the open top right corner of when the camera is set on you while you do your explanations that would be great. The explanation part is good but it gets kind of boring because there is nothing to look at but you, if we were to be able to see what the driver is seeing while hearing your thoughts about the driving experience I think some people would like that. Agreed. compare that grill to the first gen mustang. I like it a lot.

Idk if there is something wrong with mine, but I don't really find it handles all that great. Steering feels disconnected and soft.

Great review and great car. With the turbo it will be a value leader in its segment.

White seats...hopefully they dont turn blue over time from jeans like some other cars
@hertzvador22206 жыл бұрын
Dillon Hughes I have a Mazda6 GT with parchment white seats and I am wearing jeans every day for the past 2 years. No problems. I do spend more than $5 on trousers though :-)
@dvgd9996 жыл бұрын
if u protect the seats with cleaners and do regular maintenance on them, then they wont stain. People just are lazy and expect everything to work perfectly without effort or care.

2016.5 CX-5 with the white interior, seats still look as good as when I bought it. Over 60k miles on it already.

What is more fun to drive? Mazda3 hatch or cx5 with some coilovers or lowering springs? Also which car would better suit a 18 year old?
@wanderoutdoors60943 жыл бұрын
Get an SUV for trunk space (if you dont have your own place) but a cx5 is lame af for an 18 year old, or anyone without kids really
@A_guan3 жыл бұрын
@@wanderoutdoors6094 agreed...I ended up getting a civic hatchback instead

You contradicted everything you said from 4:00 to 4:43. “This TALK AH METER DOESN’T HAVE, blah blah blah” then you conclude: “IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND NOTHING YOU DON’T” DRRRRRRRRRR
