If anybody is curious what these guys(M45/Snail) charge just to drop in forged pistons and rods, bearings, new fluids, gaskets etc into a late model EJ....it’s about $7,000. Lol. I kid you not. If you want to keep your old block anyway. They were really pushing a closed deck block even after I specifically said what and why I wanted it done my way. And sure if it really did cost that much it would make sense from a financial standpoint to just drop in a new short block closed deck or not. Anyway, that’s my experience with them. Turned me off of Snail real fast unfortunately.

They don't just "drop" forged internals in it, they take the motor apart, machine it to proper tolerances for the new forged pistons (and deglazing the cylinder walls), bearing clearance checking, gapping rings, cleaning, longblock assembly, and install it back in the car. $7k including parts is not that bad. IAG, the shop I work at, Outfront, M45, etc, if you look at just shortblock pricing you're looking at $3k minimum not including head studs or a new oil pump or better pickup tube or anything. That's not including all the labor getting it out of the car and back in. And if they were pushing a closed deck block it must have been for good reason and not just some 350whp daily. The reason you pay more is for better parts and quality work. You're more than welcome to do it yourself if you want to save a buck and think your way is better than reputable companies who do it for a living 🤙 Might as well pick up the computer and tune it yourself while you're at it. Good work ain't cheap, cheap work ain't good.

@@turboka510 my old wrx was a ej20, stock block, stock internals. had ID1000 injectors, VF48 turbo and typical intake and downpipe. tuned on an AWD mustang dyno. made 20 psi
