TEK427 Agreed - it's nice that there are pros and cons to both options and it's hard to judge what's best for him. I kept him as a spirit and I loved him helping everyone other dinner there but the final speech he made has given me pause. I imagine it's the same with the human option - in fact I'd be interested to know what points did those who made him more human have the uh-huh shouldn't have done that feeling or if there were any at all.

James Norton is his voice actor. He's quite a successful British actor, being in theater since he was young. Also, he was horribly bullied, so I feel like when he is projecting pain through his work, he is drawing it from the pain he felt those years ago. No doubt he didn't just act with his voice, he threw himself wholly into this project. That's why Cole is my favorite 💞

Honestly, I don't know which one I'll choose. I love Cole being Cole, and I love it when he's happy. Honestly, he'd make a great little brother :P Still though, it's quite a decision Bioware made for us. For one, making him more of a spirit again makes him happier, and he goes back to helping people. Making him more human, however, dulls some of his senses, but he still goes around helping people and is more assured than ever that he's real, no longer questioning his own existence. There is no right answer, and maybe that's why Cole is my favorite character in this game. It's the one time I feel like there is no clear-cut decision.

Personally, I always make him human. When he's becomes only a spirit, he forgets about the real Cole. Part of what made Cole so... Cole was that he was both human and spirit. Take away one, and he's no longer him. Making him more human doesn't make him get rid of his spirit parts. Making him spirit gets rid of his human parts. I love Cole just the way he is. I want him to be Cole, not compassion. So I always make him more human.

The question is, is *Cole* more happy like that. What's better for him? That's the real dilema here. Personally, I make him a spirit. Sure I like him better as a person, but HE is so much happier as the spirit he was before and is meant to be.
@combinecommando0015 жыл бұрын
@@TiredTransbian As Varrick says, being a person means that pain comes with it. He learns and sees with more clarity, he can do much more to help than what he was as a spirit, so yes, ultimately, he is happier because he can do much more as a result of it but he is also aware that he may fail at times and some days will be harder than others, but at the end of the day, he is happier. As a spirit, he doesn't even know what's happiness, just that it's a feeling that he has to make everyone feel like.

This whole bit makes me cry, both outcomes. I’m torn about the choice and the long ranging consequences or ethics but on a gut level I like varric’s more. Probably biased because even though I enjoy solas as a character he’s also kind of a closed minded bastard and if I met him I would wish I hadn’t, and varric is just waaaaay more likeable. But Cole needed both of them. Solas treated him with respect and compassion as a spirit when most everyone else took a while to come around if they ever did, but like Blackwall said, varric seems to have adopted him. And unlike solas, varric has no deep experience and understanding of the fade or spirits. He’s heard the same things everyone else has that makes them fear demons. But he gives Cole a chance and doesn’t have that kind treatment hinge on trying to get Cole to stop being weird. Just total acceptance of this weird being nobody’s sure what to make of. The version where you let him take Cole to take revenge and shows him it won’t help, tells him they both need to remember, and walks him through the idea of living through pain and trauma and coping with it and adapting and growing hits a looot of personal nerves. Solas’ dynamic with Cole makes me smile because that’s one more person treating him decently, and one with more insight into what he is than the others, but Varric’s dynamic with him had more lasting emotional impact on me than most other things in the story. And I’m sentimental as hell so a LOT of things stuck with me. It still managed to rank way up there.

This is such a moving part of the game, I loved it. Cole is definitely one of my favorite characters, I'm on my second playthrough of the game and he's one of the companions I've been compelled to strive for high approval/friendship both times. I did more human my first playthrough and spirit this time. I love the more human outcome more I gotta say, especially with the dinner w/ Cole segment being a lot more "awwwww" inducing with him as human. Kinda wishing I'd done it other way around---I'm liking my current go as a qunari mage romancing Bull more than last time as human mage romancing Cullen, wish I'd gone with making Cole human again this time then this playthrough would be absolutely perfect haha. Anyway, great video :)

Cole is what he is, I don't see the point of making he "more human". Just because we can't understand him as an spirit it does not mean that being an spirit he won't be happy or that we are taking something away from him. He is an spirit of compassion... Something beautifull an naive tan shouldn't be corrupted just because we fell more comfortable around a "human" Cole.
@Nu_Wen8 жыл бұрын
Sarai de la Mata Brazal not to mention he's much happier as a spirit. seeing how excited he is to help people and then his relief that he doesn't have to change in a way he doesn't like just to be accepted. hearing him talk about Rhys and how Rhys had left after finding out he was a spirit. poor cole had a hard time trusting people after that. making him human just continues the idea that being a spirit makes him a "demon" :'(.
@combinecommando0017 жыл бұрын
The difference between the human and spirit is that the human is capable of learning and sees that he can help people in much more meaningful ways that will last long than as a spirit where it's just a little thing now and then that makes someone feel good for a day or so. As a spirit he is more at peace but naive. As a human, he learns but feels pain himself.

Can you imagine being Solas, the smartest ass ever when it comes to spirits and such, and you want to help your spirit friend by spiritual means, but you're outnumbered by this guy who was unlucky enough to accidentally steal the Anchor, as well as a literal dwarf who's incapable of entering the fade or dream at all. I was really torn on making him spirit or human, but honestly I think spirit is the best option. He didn’t become a human by choice, it was by extreme suffering and an inability to help he miraculously didn’t twist into a demon. His condition was unstable, and like morrigan said “one cannot exist in-between forever”. Cole would at some point need to become one or the other. But making cole a spirit makes sense because that’s how he was, how he finds the most enjoyment. Our natural reaction as humans is to make something more familiar to us - more like us. By choosing the human choice aren’t we saying we disagree with cole existing as he did because it’s unfamiliar to us? That he should change to become more pleasing, more “natural”?
@TheRealGraceon4 жыл бұрын
Did he really become a human without choice though? That’s the real debate. Varric believes he’s been trying to become human through his own will, and Solas believes Cole is wrong and is acting against his nature. It’s a matter of what you think will help Cole, helping him accomplish his dreams of becoming more human, or denying his desires so he can be stabilized. I mean we get an ending, we know Cole turns out fine and dandy no matter what we pick. Im not disagreeing with Cole’s existence by picking to make him more human, I’m simply letting him accomplish his dreams.
@darkflame7283 жыл бұрын
Interesting take. I think the only issue with it is that there was no real need for him to choose. He could have easily stayed "in between" for the rest of his days. The only reason we even have to choose is because of Cole's fear of being captured by enemy mages and being forced to hurt others. If there had been some other problem with the way he had been carrying on then it would make sense, but otherwise it seems more like an unneeded choice on our part. He's fine either way so there having to be a choice to begin with seems pointless.

It's really sad that dragon age inquisition ended up being so much less than the sum of it's parts. ALL the characters are compelling (save perhaps Vivianne), all the character quests are FAR more interesting morally and more compelling than the main quests, but the rest of the game is such a slog to get thorough. Maybe bioware should start making visual novels? Character stories are clearly what they're best at. Or do we need another game where the plot is "the worlds gonna end, build a team/army to stop it."?
