I think the fire starter should play into mesoamerica a bit more, with the snake tail making a dance, with yet ANOTHER layer of depth by having the grass starters appreciate visual art, the water starters appreciating music, and the fire starters appreciating dance, to give another theme that arts can bring us together

Damn Gigasperm looks great Jokes aside, I really like this line, and I think the music idea really gives them an unique design, I would definitely use them in a playthrough, I can imagine them having the same ability as Toxtricity for their hidden ability (showing how they control this kind of communication but also how the barrier is still there and they kind of protect from other’s ways of communication)

It seems like each of the starters also have like a "coming of age" theme as well. The nervous timid slug, grows confident and protects others that were weak like it used to be. The water line grows to be closed of but then is happy and content sharing its thoughts and music. The fire line could be a coming of age for respect, admiration. It starts off hot and frustrated that it gets picked on as it is worm like. The middle stage is it being defensive and this could be evident by it having like a kind of hoarding pose and expecting people to worship it for having wealth or power. Its final stage could be it being confident in itself to share its wealth (maybe gilded feathers it often molts?) to be generous. Because of this, it becomes a sign of luck, wellness, and respect, to the point where it is like a god-like status. I love the visual for it to coil around it's own gilded scales in the middle stage and the final stage pose having a joyful-generous face and its wings are spread open to bestow its gilded feather/scales to anyone. Feels like a good, wholesome, coming of age theme for the firestater.

You know, being latino myself and having read quite a bit about mayan, aztec and cultures of the like I think rather than a god complex, it'd be better to try to represent the fire pokemon as expected to be a fiery powerful beast and it trying to (1 stage), giving up because it's not who he is (2 stage) and finally embracing himself as who he is (3rd stage). Quetzalcoatl was not a fiery god, it was a happy go-lucky god of cratfsmanship, music and arts. He was, in fact, *the* god whose sacrifices never required actual human blood, asking for flowers and snakes to be burnt instead. And I think the concept of making it start by trying to imitate the european type of dragons he is expected to be, and (to keep it relevant to the theme of communication even though exploration of oneself is not bad on that regard) having trouble expressing himself without putting off the mask. Over time he grows to understand that he is just not the type of dragon expected of him and becomes a more graceful feathered serpent. Maybe he could even have a special move that heals with fire, i dunno. Besides, latin america still has a bit of a issue with the whole macho culture and I think it's a good metaphor for that, that you don't have to be big and loud to be a dragon, just like you don't have to to be a man. Actually the one artistic dragon who likes flowers and wears feathers of all things is probably the best metaphor of the draconic bestiary. Those are my two cents. Edit: spacing. Edit 2: Metaphor

There should be a legend in this region about a man being swallowed by a Bathygigas (Gigasperm ftw) and returned to land safely. This would mimic the story of Jonah from the bible, and would open the doors to incorporate ANOTHER layer of themes: religion. The water starter mimics Christianity/Judaism, the fire starter mimics deism and the Teotihuacan Quetzalcoatl, and the grass starter mimics Buddhism or Hinduism with lotus flowers etc. Might be controversial, but could be a really unique concept.

It would be super dope for the region to be completely new because the legendary Pokémon from 3 different regions got in a crazy fight that caused all 3 smaller regions tectonic plates to shift into each other so not only will the starter Pokémon have trouble communicating but the npcs as well it would perfectly bring the concepts of cultural and language barriers together 😆

I feel that these starters would really fit into a Mexican themed region I see this majorly with the Quetzalcoatl references in the fire type line. and I feel that porsite specifically resembles a vaquita porpoise (native to only Baja California and the gulf), and even with a little stretching of the imagination you could say the final evo’s guitar is a guitarron (used in mariachi). For the grass line its a bit trickier for the direct inspiration, but Mexico has a lot of UFO sightings and also...has snails. For the theming though, Mexico couldn’t be a more perfect location! There is also a lot of separation between the people in Mexico, the country has a lot of immigration in and out of the country with immigrants from Guatemala and Central America being common, along with many citizens leaving for the United States all leading many to feel alienated . The country is also filled with many languages (English, Spanish, Nahuatl, Pueblo, Mixtec, Yucatec, etc.) making communication difficult. And being based on a colonial country and even having had a monarchy in place, classism is a major divide in Mexican society to the point that it has been argued as the root of systemic racism, especially towards native peoples. And of course Mexico is famous for having been part of the golden age of discovery (for Europeans at least) and having many famous explorers, and while sailing and archeology come easily to Mexico... I’d argue that even astronomy is in Mexican history, just a little farther back. The Mayans were very advanced astronomers and made many monuments for the mapping of the skies, with Chichen Itza (the big famous temple) being a solar calendar

Since two of the three starters now has a helmet/something on their head, I feel like the fire starter should have it as well to further unify them as a trio! Having it wear one in gold (like it kinda already does in it’s second stage) could be a great representation of it god complex! Maybe as the line progresses it loses it, showing how the pokemon has become more down to earth and no longer treats itself that highly? Or maybe the helmet merges with it’s head to show how it has truely deserved it’s status?

for the fire starter I don't get quetzalcoatl from the fire evolution, quetzacoatl is a feathered serpent and I don't get serpent. Honestly to me the final evolution looks like Hawlucha (or an evolution of Hawlucha). I think you have to lean into the serpent part more. but make sure you don't make it look too like Serperior, a pokemon I get both serpent and regality from.

I feel like the fire starter Pokémon looks a little bit too much like a fusion between Charizard and Ho-oh, why don’t you try to make it look a little more serpent like. I know you can do it because you’re awesome and the designs are amazing. Also, I feel like you should make it look more snarky like instead of menacing because the starter wants people to respect it’s god like status, it doesn’t want to hurt them. The first two forms are fine. The last form is where I draw issue. Not enough serpent. A ho-oh like serpent (quetzalcoatl) isn't a bad idea. Maybe take away it's legs? And it feeds into the idea of communication barriers of history, beliefs, and culture.

I really love how you‘ve incooperated different themes across all three evolution lines! I think someone (Edit: Acc is named „Daniel“) already had the idea to make the ongoing theme aside from exploration also different ways of breaking the barrier (Gras with traditional art, water with music and fire with dancing) trough emotional, non-langual ways and how this would evolve! First form is innocent trial and error, second is sort of giving up and edgy, third form is happy achievement were the Pokémon embrace their alien culture! For the water starter for example you could base the bubbles on first form on a question mark, the second already is an exclamation mark, and the third one could be the note, showcasing the solution for communication through music!

This whole video was great, except for Bathygigus' stats, which if you combine them it comes out to a total of 480. All starters have a base stat total above 520, so here's a compromise: HP-110 Attack-50 Defense-110 Sp.Attack-95 Sp.Defense-110 Speed-50 TOTAL:525 (Could be higher, but i think this is a good number)

Whales are notoriously hard to kill though. It's just that we humans are effective at it because we're OP. I feel like it should have a higher defence stat than attack. Maybe 70-90 or 80-100 and drop down special attack to 85.

I think that the Fire starters need to incorporate more fire into their designs. They look less like a Fire type, and more like a Dragon or a Flying type imo. Also, I think that you should make the final evolution have a slimmer body shape. Since your previous starters, Gastronaut and Bathygigas, are both quite chonky, I think that making Quetzillian skinnier would be a good way of giving your starters more variety in a way. Also, I'm aware that you probably won't read this, but what types are the Mollucotta line? Is it Grass/Rock or Grass/Ground because of the pots covering its body, or is it something else?

First and second stages are definite improvements. I love the second stage headphone idea. However, I really liked the bubble gauntlets coming off of the fins for the final stage.

I absolutely LOVE the first two forms. I'm not a fan of the final evo though. In my opinion the first two are so expressive. Mostly in the eyes and their pose/body shape. One look at them and you know their personalities. The third doesn't do that for me. The first two have such unique and expressive eyes. Both designs kinda draw you in to their eyes as the focal points. The bubbles, which are the key features, draw you in to the eyes. It doesn't help the final evo that it has its eyes closed. As for the body shapes/pose, the first two are perfect. Matched with the eyes, Porsite's design says awkwardly, "Hi, I don't know I'm doing. Help." While the Cettoekko's pose matching its eyelinered eye says, "I kinda don't like you, hence the headphones made of bubble but you have my attention." Sidenote: I'm not a fan of the exclamation point on Cettoekko. I like it in concept, but it didn't help Cettoekko as much. Cettoekko is solid as it is without the "!". And the explamation mark kinda disappeared on Bathygigas so it could be better off without it on Cettoekko. Bathygigas's body and pose aren't as expressive and it has its eyes closed. Bathygigas's design being less expressive of its personality is kinda counter-intuitive to the concept that as Porsite evolves it overcomes the barrier. I'm having trouble on how suggestions on how to improve the third evo though. First, being based on a sperm whale kind throws off the scale for me. Because starters tend to be around the same size, and I kinda thrown off even more so when Bathygigas via perspective seems a lot bigger. Because when you think whale, you usually think BIG. Maybe the final evo shouldn't be based on a sperm whale? Maybe it should still be closer to dolphins/orcas. I know Pokemon jump species inspirations all the time, but... not being a sperm whale addresses the size difference. And not being a sperm whale could make it look more agile and have more expressive shapes and poses. Being too bulky like a whale limits expressiveness imo. And starters need to have personality flying out of the wazoo. In closing, I could not emphasize how much I love your work and I don't want to offend you in any way. I nowhere as good as an artist as you guys, I'm just trying to offer my two cents and I hope it's taken constructively. :)

Ideas for the Fire Starter: The First Stage is nearly perfect. Maybe puff out its cheeks a little to sell that "spoiled brat" vibe, but so far golden. For the Second Stage you'll want to make it look slightly less than its first stage. I suggest de-emphasizing the arms, putting them in crossed position to resemble a cloak, lengthen out the tail and add a smaller version of 3rd's fan to the end. He can use the fan to appear aloof, but really he's just trying to block conversation. This would emphasize how he's not yet comfortable dealing with others, and uses the fan as a coping mechanism, a physical barrier. For the Final Stage, drop the legs and go full Couatl with the design. This design should ooze confidence and give the feeling of a creature that has learned how to use it's presence to get the respect it deserves. Try adding a golden mark to the center of the belly that radiates out allong the primaries of the wing, giving a sort of Sun God appearance.

I absolutely love these designs! They're adorable, and the themes are so unique yet still very recognizable. What if, for the fire starter, you could incorporate some traditional Southern American/ancient Aztec music or dance in the design? I sadly don't know much about the Aztec's history, but music and dance surely played an important role there. Dance can also be used as a form of communication, conveying thoughts and emotions through movement. It could also fit well with the starter being arrogant and feeling superior to other pkmn or trainers, because they might not understand what it's trying to say with it's dance, which it's surely very offended by. It could also have some fire-dancer motif, even though that's probably more of a Polynesian tradition than Southern American, but it would be perfect with the typing!

Great work with this redesign ! The whole line feels much more coherent. For the fire line, my best idea is to base it on Atheris Squamiguera (Bush Vipers) because they have beautiful feather-like scales. I think you should emphasize the feathers and the gold ornements to play on the idea of imposing ones status through appearence. Maybe you can show progression by starting with a pokemon that cares a lot about it's looks and won't risk messing it's feathers to one that uses these elements in combat. I think molten gold could add a sense of heat as the evolution line progresses.

Water starters have always been my favorites, and I have to say, it's also the case with your design! I feel like you could incorporate more elements from the guitar theme, to make the transition between stages smoother. Perhaps you could incorporate pink dots on the end of Bathygigas's tail, to simulate tuning keys (and follow up on Cettoekko's exclamation point)? Also, I find the shape of Cettoekko's ear bubbles a bit pointless, maybe they could be in the shape of plectrums, or even connected in a way that would reference both two eight notes beamed together and headphones. That's about all I have to say. Can't wait for the fire starter video! Keep it up

I am loving this series. I personally preferred the first designs for this line because I thought the bubble arms/tools were super cool. Although I like the first designs so much, these current ones are also amazing!

I feel like the first evolution feels like the cut off head of a snake. Sure you could lean into that because cut off snake heads can live for up to a few hours after decapitated, however I can’t see how that connects. It’s body seems missing if that makes sense. Something that angry tends to be bigger or sturdy looking (maybe some square elements could help in that case), or you could take inspiration from piplup’s pridefulness. It isn’t angry but its honor is very important to it, with the sharp contrast in light and darker colors feeling like a fancy tuxedo with a small tailcoat making it look like it dresses rich and above everyone, and it still doesn’t look angry. Also those little feather things around the side could translate well into scales and be less literal. Most Pokémon don’t directly have things like that on their design, for example decidueye’s hoodie is more looped into its design instead of just being a hoodie. Same with the final’s tail being a bit too literal. Sorry for the paragraph again.

So for the fire starter, I feel like a different color palette would make it look a bit more interesting. I'd like to see a primarily black body, with bright accent colors. Maybe something fiery, like red, orange and yellow with potentially a bit of blue or something inspired by the "Formosan Odd Scaled Snake", some of which have black bodies and look almost iridescent.

I think for the first fire starter, it would be cool if it's mane of feathers (or crown, since it's a snake) should either make it look like the sun or its final evolution.

I love them. Especially the second. I feel like the issue you were having was them looking to much like a generic cartoon whale with bubbles on them. I feel like the design could take more inspiration from real like whales. Maybe made to look slightly more believably movable on land might help

I'll tell you right now that I would 100% use Bathygigas. As an aspiring musician and a life heavily connected to the ocean, as well as my favorite color being blue, it's just too perfect. I love the design so much and I think it came out really well. (also my patronus is a dolphin so there's that)

given that you've utilized the pink as accents on all 3 of them, i feel that the pink teeth on bathygigas wasn't following the same pattern.. Maybe if the pink accent was on the "strings" of the guitar motif you went with and the teeth remained white throughout the line it'd look more complete. As for the next video, I was always of the mind that the fire starters were themed after zodiac signs. That said a Quetzalcoatl is more of a dragon than a snake and although that would be fun, would play more into dragon than snake. Seeing as how charmander's line is the dragon of the zodiac, the snake is the more necessary line to make. Quetzalcoatl was the Mesoamerican deity of creation and as a fire starter, one would think to go more towards Xiuhcoatl. Xiuhcoatl is the deity of fire and is more serpentine than Quetzalcoatl. A small excerpt from Wikipedia states: "This Xiuhcoatl wielded by Huitzilopochtli symbolizes the forces of darkness being driven out by the fiery rays of the sun"

I think if possible the fire starters shiny colors should be something making it look like an angry deity, maybe sharing Giratina's normal color scheme. The final form also reminds me a bit of Ho-oh so maybe leaning into that and making that why people used to worship it until they realised it was just a normal Pokemon.

I like how they turned out. I would change up the expression and eyes of Porsight though. It just seems too emotionless to me. For your fire starter I think you need to make the body of the first two stages longer and more snakelike. It should learn the move coil and be a physical attacker. Your last stage needs arms on the wings to match the set based on what your stage 2 looks like which is near perfect. I like that one the best of the 3 by far.

If you see this, please read it. The fire starter should really feel both pompous and deific, simultaneously, to exemplify the previously stated idea that they were once (falsely) thought to be legendary Pokémon. The design needs to be vibrant, as many colors as you can get to look good, and proud, very proud, just slightly too proud. It thinks it's better than you and will not stand for anyone saying otherwise. You could also really focus on eye catching structure designs and try to incorporate ruins into the Pokémon itself. I don't have all that much to add, but try to focus on that aspect of the Pokémon as much as possible, please. This arrogant Pokémon who thinks it's a legendary idea is amazing and I'd like to think that I contributed to it in some capacity.

Going off what other people suggested for the fire starter, I feel like humility and control could play a big role in its line as it evolves, along with friendship. In the first stage, it tries to live up to this godly imagery placed on it, so it goes overboard with its fire power in an attempt to impress everyone. In its mind, it doesn't need anyone to help it, so it lashes out at weaker trainers who try to control it. The second stage could actually be a bit timid, as it's realizing that fire is a dangerous element that can easily hurt people. Knowing that it doesn't have a lot of control yet, it seeks to hide so that it doesn't burn its friends, so only trainers who are willing to stick with it can help it grow. The final evolution can be it finally realizing the importance that fire (i.e. the sun and heat) have, and the importance of control. It's obtained this incredible power, but it's now more gentle as it realizes that restraint is necessary when dealing with something like fire. On top of that, it recognizes the amount of effort that its trainer went through to guide it, so it's obtained a lifelong bond with them and will be fiercely loyal.

I don't really have a lot to say for improvement, but I must say, what you've done with the water line this video is amazing! As a teenager, that mainly in their younger teens tended to shut out the world with music, you managed to convey the character of the starters very well! The headphones idea was absolutely brilliant. Also you managed to take something i personally fear (whales, sharks, some dolphin species) into a creature i would love to befriend and work with as a first pokemon. Well done! Again, i don't really have a lot of ideas for improvement. Maybe if you something is really bothering you about them just experiment, and what not. Maybe think of signature moves to go with them. I saw in a different comment that the subtle arts theme to the others could be dance, and maybe that's a great way to incorporate self exploration as a main theme for the fire starter. It really would sell the idea of them being starters, as I can typically picture the starters at any point in their evolution just being able to hang out together and have a good time. You've done that really well with the first two, so just something to keep in mind! Sorry if this is too wordy or not the most constructive. Good job, I love your art and how you explain your process

I loved it, at first I thought about choosing the Grass type starter, but the design of this came to me in a very special way. I had the idea of using the shape of bubbles as horns or amplifiers, so went from moving away from the world to getting more involved in it, and retaining that rude and daring style, at the beginning assumed that the final evolution would be an orca to be more related to dolphins, but the end result I loved

For the fire serpent and lost Civilization themes, I had the idea of a Quetzalcoatl, the mythic god of fertility, light, life, knowledge and civilization of the Mexica and other mesoamerican civilizations. It literally means "feathered serpent" and it's always depicted with feathery body. It's main colors are first green, then red and yellow and lastly some white (it can be difficult to incorporate a lot of green into a fire starter, but a darker or warmer shade of green could work, also it could transition from having little green on the first stages to having more in the final stages). Could be cool to see the final stage as a winged, feathered serpent with a gentle and wise look on it's face (whose feathers are like leaves) and which gets the fire-grass dual type (although it might be stretching it) with the levitate ability. If the typing is too out of the ordinary or it's too difficult to mix in the grass type with the aesthetic or green color you can always make it another fire-flying Pokemon.

Also something else! Maybe a class barrier for a Pokemon is something too "aggressive" if you can say so. So I thought about something more gentle and that can transition better through the evolution line: a trust/ confidence barrier.

I feel like with the God complex barrier of the fire starter; getting an "I can be friends with this" would be kinda difficult, especially with a final evolution. I think the final evolution should have a 'benevolent king' kind of feel. This would maintain the class barrier asthetic while toning down the insufferable 'holier than thou' elements that would detract from the 'friendship' vibe. Granted, I have no credentials whatsoever. So if this is a bad take, feel free to ignore it entirely.

These were great designs and I keep on rewatching it because it’s amazing. You should probably give them moves like boomburst, round, sing, relic song and more. The fire starter should looks great but I feel like you should try to go in another direction with the inspiration then make it look like Charizard and Ho-oh’s wings. You should try to go for a more serpent and snake like feel. Maybe you should you remove the legs and just have it have the wing like arms. I know that I commented something like this before but I just wanted to expand on the idea and make sure that you either saw the first one or see this one. I hope you have a fun time making for designs, and I hope that you do more than just the starters😁

I think a "crotchet > quaver > thought bubble" progression would work wonders for this line (or alternatively, the psychic tool-bubble could also be excellent given a more "crystal ball" approach), but the final design - with the helmet/headphones/ship-guitar is positively incredible :D

Although I like the design of the fire type’s final evolution, I feel it strays too far from the previous two in the line. It also doesn’t look much a like a Pokémon to me, a really cool monster, but not a Pokémon. I really liked the bulbous arms you gave its second form, maybe instead of adding the legs and dropping the arms for wings, you should keep the wings (pushing them further backward) but make the legs into larger bulbous arms closer to the shoulders, getting rid of the hips making it look less humanoid. You could however keep the anklets as bracelets. I think the girth of the design is good as it is though, streamlining the body too much would make it too close to the concept it’s based on so having a shorter but stronger looking body does it well. Also, I at first thought the colour scheme looked too similar to Ho-Oh’s but after thinking about it a bit, I like that it looks similar. I think it fits well with its dex entry about how it was seen as a deific figure and how it sees itself that way, even though it isn’t. It’s similar enough to Ho-Oh’s pallet that it could be perceived by an ancient civilization as the same as Ho-Oh or related to it.

For the Fire starter, it can have fire or something like a heater in its feathers for example; when it’s final evolution spreads out it’s wings the fire expels from its wings to create a sort of ring of fire. Most fire starters have fire on them or the ability to generate fire through pads or ears. Or maybe the starter line can have patterns running down their bodies and they glow or expel fire when using attack These patterns can be the same ones as the carvings of the Quetzalcoatl with swirls and rows of lines Another inspiration is the use of types of metals in their design (bronze, silver, and gold) almost like a leaderboard 3rd, 2nd, and 1st with the each evolution having one of the metals be their scales or armory. Having them think they are top of the hierarchy. One more thing I think might be good is if the line also takes inspiration from the amphithere, a type of serpent dragon which one set of wings

for the fire starter, i think you could add more of a pattern in their designs remember, aztecs and other mesoamerican cultures used to have patterns called "grecas" around some of their buildings and decorations, usually they had a symbolism

I gotta say the theme of social barriers(alienation, social class, and language) is so complex and yet would be such an amazing theme to have for a pokemon game. I think with games like BW and SM, which focused on themes of ideology and community, it would be so interesting if the next pokemon game were to do this beyond their starters.
