In this tutorial i will be demonstrating sublimation printing on a ceramic plate.
I will be using a sublimated coated plate, A-Sub paper, the Epson WF-7710 printer with sublimation ink, Heat Resistant Tape and the amazon heat press with the 6 inch plate heating element.
Make sure to set your printing quality on High or Best Quality, Media type on Premium Presentation Paper Matte, use heat resistant to keep your design fixed to the plate, press the image on the plate with light pressure 375-400F for 240 seconds. Make sure to cover the artwork/design with parchment paper.
If followed the steps in the Tutorial video your sublimation images will come out just as you want them to.

Thanks very much for joining me on this journey, I really appreciate it. I use the HPN signature series 6 in 1 mug press. I can do a lot of different mug sizes and much more. The biggest heating element I have is for a 17oz so if I do a tumbler bigger than 17 oz the picture or image wouldn’t cover the entire tumbler. I really do hope this answers your question. You can actually watch me here unboxing the mug press - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnvGo5t-j5angKM

love how you explain everything so easily. one question, if I was to sublimate an oval platter, would I just sublimate one half for 240 sec and then the other half for 240sec?
@atprints
@atprints Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. It all depends on how big your plate press is. When sublimating over previous images you have to be careful as you can actually burn the image that was pressed on first. So you have to decide how big you would like the image to be and then sublimate it. However, to your question, If you do one half at 240 seconds, once the entire paper was down I would only do 200 seconds for the next half. The reason I noted this is because the platter and paper would have already been hot and passed off heat. I hope this helps and that you do understand. Let me know if you do.

Thanks very much for your comment and support. Yes, they could be larger once the plate press heating element is larger. So if you do have the plate press set up, take a look at the different sizes.

is it possible to do the plate in a sublimation oven using a heat sleeve.? I also have a Cricut heat press, is there a disk I could use to apply pressure to the center of the plate.
@atprints
@atprints Жыл бұрын
I do believe you can use an oven. However, you would need to get something to keep the image pressed down to the plate then try to use the shrink wrap sleeves if you can find some that are big as plates. In relation to the circuit press, I’m sorry I can help in that area as my press is a bit different. I am not sure if circuit has anything that can work.

what is a sublimated coated plate? is it a special type of plate, a normal ceramic plate, or some coating you have to buy separately to apply to a plate?
@atprints
@atprints 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. A sublimated coated plate is a special type of plate that allows you to sublimate images and designs onto it. A sublimation plate is a special type of plate. If you try to use a normal ceramic plate it will not work. There are two choices you can look at when looking into sublimation products or plates. You can either purchase sublimation blanks from amazon and other stores or you can purchase polygloss and coat your own ceramic items. Take a look at this video where I coated a normal ceramic plate and a mug - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i17cnnupr7OarpI

Very nice. Quick ? Is polygloss food safe?
@atprints
@atprints 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. When it comes to Polygloss there are so many views. The instructions never mentioned when i researched that it wasn't food safe. It mostly recommends you do not use PolyGloss coated substrates in a dishwasher since some dishwashers reach very high temperatures and this can re-activate the sublimation process causing the ink to bleed. In this case i always caution persons to wash by hand for safety. When it comes to plates i would advise to use the plate as an ornament rather than eat in it. I hope this helps.

@atprints
@atprints Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. Before I answer I will say there are sublimation-ready plates which are already coated and prepared for sublimation and then there is the process where we can apply polygloss and sublimate your work onto a plate. In this video I used a normal plate and applied ploygloss, which gave me the opportunity to sublimate onto it. The company noted that Polygloss is food safe so yes you can eat off this plate. However, I normally advise to use it as an ornament. If you expose the plate with the Polygloss to execessive heat for example your oven or even microwave, it can reactivate the polygloss. So if you are planning to eat from it make sure to keep it away from the oven and extreme heats. I know the answer was long but I hope it helped.
