I dig this stuff. It definitely has a lot of the classic Sublime vibe with the reggae/dub sound but Rome is a completely different frontman from Brad. I know that Brad's son reformed Sublime with Bud and Eric but the Sublime With Rome era shouldn't be overlooked. I'm glad that Rome Ramirez helped keep Sublime alive in at least some form.

They replaced that ska, punk type style with something a bit more pop. And they're still good, it's just hard not to try to associate sublime with Rome with the original sublime considering Eric and Bud are a part of it. I think that's why people dislike them so much. Sublime with Rome still kind of holds on to the branding of sublime but with an almost completely different sound. Throws me off now still

It's not because Rome is good or bad as a singer, it's because Bradley was Sublime and that name belongs to his band. He made Sublime what it was. Just because part of the band is still together doesn't make it the same thing. Maybe part of the frustration is because both sides are trying to honor Bradley in a different way. I know Rome is trying to honor him but it's not the old Sublime so it's almost like they are infringing upon the bands name. Rome is a decent musician in his own right but he is no Bradley Nowell. He will never be Sublime.

Sublime with Rome is awesome. I've seen them live twice and each time was amazing. Take it or Leave it and this song are my JAMS and easily compare to much of the original band's work. I see a lot of comments hating on the name, sublime wasn't just brad nowell.. it was tragic and sad but you have to understand how it must have been on the two guys who were basically his brothers they were so close.. they wanted to continue their music but bring their best friend along with them, the best way they could was keep a name he was a huge part of a part of their music, they don't sound completely the same, but the vibe is there and whether the style died to update or not, they kept brad with them. The music is good, and the guys have good hearts, knock the hate off if you won't step into their shoes.

For anyone complaining about the name, they is it was a sort of "tribute" to Bradley. Also the original members of the band stated that they know Brad would want them to continue to make music (and I'm pretty sure they know him better than any of us do). That's why the name has "Sublime" in the name, so the spirit of the band will carry on. In all honesty Rome is a pretty great singer. Not necessarily the same vibe as Brad, but you can't ignore talent. If you're a real sublime fan you'll respect that the music is about good vibes, which hatred towards a new member isn't really reflecting

Have you really listened to Sublime? I mean besides Santeria. This is not it. It isn't bad, but it's not even close. Sublime was much, much more raw reggae punk ska with an edge. This is watered down pop reggae compared to Sublime.

I didn't say it was the same music, but that I can still pick up on the inspiration and stylistic overlap. Hell, Darius Rucker did both alternative rock and a country album but that didn't mean his music was unrecognizably different between the two or that there wasn't clear consistency of style. Same difference here, except you've subjectively decided that one has "an edge" and the other is "watered down". I guarantee that if it had instead been Sublime in Rome who had done "By the Rivers of Babylon" performed the exact same way, the same people who would've praised Sublime for being so versatile would be like, "What the hell is this watered down s***!? A _BONEY M_ COVER SONG!? They SUCK! Sublime would never have pulled this crap! What were they thinking!?"

What you guys are missing are the songs like STP, Saw Red, Smoke Two Joints, Burritos, etc. It's a punk/reggae/ sound that helped make Sublime. That sound is absent with Sublime with Rome. The edge is gone.

I am diggin the song. I think Rome is great and the name lives on. The fact they call it Sublime with Rome instead of just Sublime makes my ass itch though.
