This is Disneyland's Submarine Voyage that has been closed for 8 years and is due to reopen next year as 'Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.'(Part 1 of 2)

THANKS SO MUCH! I couldn't get enough of this ride when I was young...I just remember that one time I went to Disneyland, and the subs weren't there...I was just like, "oh well"

Thank you so much for uploading! This is the ride of my childhood. The Nemo ride is alright because I think that Walt Disney would have been inspired by the technology, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the old one. I always thought it was serine and relaxing, but I guess that translates as "boring" nowadays. It was amazing for the time is was made, and was still forward thinking when it was closed. I'm just glad the submarines are still around.

Man, I miss the original version so much. As a child, this was the pinnacle of every trip to the park. I'm glad it's back, since the Nemo version is mostly the same, with the CG stuff added in, and new models for the sea-life.

i think they mean cartoons as in 2d animation. and since princess in the frog wasn't as popular as tangled, now all Disney makes are 3d animations. and honestly, I wish they wouldn't change Disneyland around so much. it's the one place that's familiar in a world addicted to change...

Wow! Thanks! My dad was telling me all about the original ride, and I never got to ride it...Now I know what it was like! My dad used live right next to Disneyland, and he would go there every day...this was one of his favorite rides...at least I'll be able to actually ride the Finding Nemo version!

I've been on this ride before with my parents. I don't remember it, because I was in elementary school back then. I was in the middle of finishing kindergarten when this ride was here in Disneyland back then. Good times!

I'm not real happy with all Pixar rides but listen, just be glad we have the subs back! I for one am very happy to have them up and running Nemo or not.

The technology for nemo is good but the overall theme and story of the original is 10x the best.

Loved this ride, but I had nightmares about swimming through it with all the creepy animatronics. Also, I believe there are pictures on the net of the ride with all the water drained.

thanx for posting. I was 5 when I first rode this in 1959 and it was considered so high tech and amazing.You couldn't have real fish because of the upkeep and beause it would be too hard to frame a story with live aquatics.Walt would never expose kids to the inevitable floating fish! LOL Good times. Looking forward to the new ride.

I remember that I rode this at least once when I was little. The sea serpent freaked me out. Suddenly I'm glad that I got to ride it when I did, though. I'm that way with a lot of the rides they took out. Like the Skyway. I miss the Skyway...

In the 70's/60's/Around that time, they did have women who would put on mermaid tails and swim in the pool as well as sit on the rocks up top and wave at people, but the ones I remember seeing when I was little were large "dolls."

I remember the last time I went on this ride. It was night time, so you couldn't see the lagoon itself, so you had to wait till you got into the cave, but oh well, this ride was always a must when my family and I went to disneyland. Now it's replaced with finding nemo, and all tho the ride's alright, it's not as good as the original, especially when having to wait an hour in line just to get on.

The ride opened in 1959 before the disabled access laws. I belive the new version starring Nemo will have access for the disabled but I don't know how it will work.

Your right, Disneyland is lucky enough to still have a submarine ride. I wouldn't say the Nemo subs are bad...they just don't hold the same magic as the original subs. I still ride the nemo subs on occasion, but if there's an hour wait, forget about it.

yea im sure nemo will be cool too i actually cant wait to ride it! but im just sad that it was gone and im sad that they didnt make it into a little mermaid submarine like they were originally going to do in the late 90's.

they should have kept the old theme but with nemo effects. so instead of a CG talking fish there would be a CG sea serpent and mermaids. oh & better animatronics.

@tamisweetie Both of my parents used to work there back in their college days; and my dad worked the Subs. Yes, there is a catwalk for maintenance and emergencies. (though, of course, that was a long time ago, and may have changed - though logically, it would simply be upgraded.)

@M1CK3Yanimation PIXAR is DISNEY. Pixar is like Disney's main animation studio now. The guys that started pixar OWN the original disney animation studio now, and the people who used to work at disney now work at pixar. It's all the same people. So FINDING NEMO as well as any other disney-pixar film 100% belongs in the parks. Besides even if pixar was some sort of separate company taking over... that would be alright, because pixar films are INCREDIBLE!!!

The ride was getting old. It was very expensive to maintain. It needed a major refurbishment that also would have been very expensive. The management team that ran Disneyland at the time felt the expense was not justified so they closed it. Fortunately different people are running Disneyland now and soon the subs will reopen.

Survey; if they remade the counterpart of this ride in Walt Disney World (with a Little Mermaid theme instead of a Finding Nemo theme, or maybe a different underwater Disney theme), should it be put in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or Animal Kingdom?

@M1CK3Yanimation They're not taking over. There's 5 stand-alone attractions and 1 teeny-tiny-itsy-bitsy incredibly detailed themed land devoted to Pixar. Considering that's out of 88 total attractions between both Theme Parks... yeah..

@M1CK3Yanimation Same here, Toy Story is awesome, but IMO alot of other Pixar movies are eh. A recent Disney movie that came out that I liked is The Princess and the Frog. It kinda bugs me that they consider this ride a tomorrowland ride and not a fantasyland ride. Also I think The Little Mermaid should have been build here, thats a classic disney movie.

you do know that this ride was based off the disney movie 20,000 leagues under the sea right, but yeah atleast in this one the charachters arent just slapped everywhere just so m,ore people would ride it

@Wakkosgirl Actually, I agree with you. The new version with Nemo & friends sucks. If I want to watch "Finding Nemo", I'll do it from the comfort of my couch- not in a sardine can. ;) I loved the original Submarine Voyage growing up, and I still lament the lost opportunity Imagineering had to renovate the Subs, keeping the original storyline but updating all of the effects. Can you imagine how amazing the Subs would be if they were done with today's technology? :D

The reason why nothing is original is because rides get old, and they are just replaced by another idea they have, and that idea can't go anywhere else because of lack of space.

@SoCalDork Yeah, but why mess with a classic. Have you noticed that folks think the sea creatures pushed up by the tsunami in Japan are radiation influenced?? I got an email and pics in it included an angler fish, a moray eel and the crab with extra legs and sharp spineys. This ride was entertaining but it was also educational. All the good parts got taken out. I don't like it anymore. And before you say it, yes, I already don't ride it anymore because of this.

Today's subs: 1) Load "Finding Nemo" into your DVD player. 2) Set your fish aquarium with bubble stick directly in front of your TV screen. 3) Watch movie through the bubbles. Tah dah. You've just experienced the new Submarine Voyage. Zzzzz. Really? I miss the sea serpent, the mermaids on strings, Atlantis's tottering columns, and all the other effects of the original. Today's is just a big yawn.

really pixar is starting to take over the parks and its not making me happy. the only pixar movie i like is toy story because its the first but what happened to cartoons? i dont see any disney cartoons anymore

Disneyland is not a museum, things will change as will the public's perception of what is enjoyable for all ages. If an attraction is refitted to more modern audiences while still retaining its spirit I see no issue. Also Disney is making plenty of cartoons still, tangled, wreck it Ralph, princess and the frog to name a few of the current ones, as well as the highly anticipated frozen.

i agree with FrostXByte... if they were gonna put somethin in, why not atlantis? finding nemo is well...im sorry, but finding nemo is just DUMB. i cant STAND pixar movies!!!!! they lack all the stuff disney USED to be known for-the heart, the classic good guys/bad guys, the awesome songs, and, of course, the MAGIC! ooh, talking cars, robots, and fish! HOW MAGICAL! and toy story is OK, but they're just pushing it now...im so sick of it! BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL DISNEY!!! NOT THE COMPUTER CRAP!!!
