Hello everyone. To answer the main question, yes I have already done an episode on Superstar Limo. I will be going back and redoing some of my old videos every now and then to give them the same research and production value as the new ones. This video is over twice as long as the original, because I was able to find so much more information and footage.

The rides are fine. It's standing in line for 90 minutes before you get on that isn't fun. They just sell a ticket to anybody will buy one and nevermind that they don't actually have enough rides for all the people. It's more of a live-action line simulator occasionally interrupted by rides.

Eisner operated by Vegas rules: if they ain't spending their money here, that's money we're losing. If there were golf courses outside the park, the park would have golf (and mini-golf). If there were zoos, the park would have zoos. If there were movie theaters, nightclubs, and shopping malls, than, dammit the park had to have those as well! It seemed the only things Eisner couldn't or wouldn't copy were the strip-clubs and some of the more Bible-theme tourist traps, which goes to show there were levels of exploitation that not even Disney would sink to.

This is the second video from this channel that I've seen. I'm blown away by the quality of the production. What really surprised me was one detail. Perjurer mentions the death of "Diana, Princess of Wales." That may seem small, but he actually called her by her real title. Almost no one does. The newspaper headlines he shows mention "Princess Diana." She was never "Princess Diana." She would always correct people who called her that. She was either "Lady Diana" or "Diana, Princess of Wales": it was only an honorary title. While this is a detail, it shows an attention to detail that I've rarely seen anywhere. Again, I'm truly impressed.

I mean other than those on that one ship that the Queen Mary collided with who were then cut up by her propellers, there's not much haunted about her. I personally don't care about the haunted stuff I'm just interested in her a ship. She's the last surviving Cunard Ship before the modern Cunard Queens and the last surviving connection to the White Star Line other than the S.S. Nomadic. The Queen Mary was only completed because the British Government gave Cunard funds to finish her on the terms that the WSL and Cunard merge. The Queen Mary's sister ship, the R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth burned down in the 70s, so the Queen Mary really is the last remnant of the old Cunard. The art-deco style of her interiors is super cool and very interesting for an ocean liner of the QM's size.

Honestly, slightly creepy as some of them are, it seems like they did a pretty darn good job of a low-budget renovation. The theme fits *much* better with just taking it all the way to comic, and the renovated ride is at least passable, instead of an absolute disaster. It's not amazing, but it's not awful any more either, which considering how it opened? That's 1000% better. Really, kudos to the imagineers that came up with the quick-and-dirty rebuild, that was darn near as well done as I think it could have been given their budget and starting material.

Eisner was all about maximizing profits, spending as little as possible and still getting people through the gates, its a horrible business model but quintessentially 90s. Reality tv shows are the same concept, they cost nothing to make so as long as someone is watching its profitable. The idea of pulling displays from Disney stores to stick in a ride is so Eisner, he was that cheap. Most construction in the Eisner era was exactly what this was -- painted on plywood. My dad did some construction in MK, he did the original shopping village, which was kind of dated and not Disney branded, so Eisner's solution, put up plywood facades and paint Disney characters on it. Just recently it got a complete renovation, a little overdue, but at least Eisner's plywood is gone.

@@talosheeg That's a bit too simplistic, but yes, Walt being in charge meant the driving force was passion and great ideas, after he died it was money. What they should have done is made sure that someone with a similar background was always right at the top of the board, someone who believed in originality and story telling just as much. Prominent imagineers should be running Disney, not businessmen. I think people knew what Walt wanted, they just didn't care. There were some amazing things built long after Walt died, but slowly the dream has faded as well.

@@rhodopisdenile8977 I think Eisner is an unpredictable man of contradictions. Forget The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean for a moment - the 90s had plenty of great additions to Disney. How could they go from Animal Kingdom, The Tower of Terror and Alien Encounter, to this?!

Why not just take the original concept and retool it a little? Make it a taxi instead of a limo and have the story involve the guests trying to make it to a movie premiere at Grauman's on time, avoiding the perils of the California roadways along the way. The taxi driver could replace Eisner as the "host" of the ride, and it would save face by allowing the company to keep most of the original ideas, the celebrity appearances, theater ending area, and high-speed chase, while removing connotation to Princess Diana's death by taking out the limo and paparazzi.

Here we have an extreme example of what can go wrong when a ride isn’t themed: a total devoid of charm or character. The Monsters Inc ride that replaced it isn’t perfect, but it has tons more personality
@CoderatheGreat6 жыл бұрын
Oh the ride was themed all right, just very badly.

I more meant "themed after a property", but you are still very correct.

I think I'm missing something, but why was this ride so horrible again? Was it just boring? or uninspired? The original version looks like a kind of slow, but inoffensive, gimmick ride making fun of hollywood.
@Dracomut6 жыл бұрын
A mixture of boring, uninspired, slowness, as well as being quite ugly, not fitting at all with a Disney park, and being horribly unfunny.
@DjVortex-w6 жыл бұрын
Not really "not themed", but more like "here we have an idea, but due to circumstances we can't actually implement it as originally intended, but rather than scratch that idea completely, let's create a simplified, bastardized and extremely cut version of it anyway". It didn't exactly help that even the original idea doesn't sound like such a good one in the first place.

This makes me so incredibly grateful for the fact that I got to ride this horror show on two separate occasions during its short lifespan. My favorite part was, admittedly, the poor ride attendants’ spiel at the end... this dead-eyed, lifeless send-off about how “congratulations, you’re a superstar” or something similarly cringey.

I had an early preview ticket to California Adventure in 2000 (soft opening, I think) and went on this ride. The on-ride videos of everyone's faces at the end of the ride was priceless and said everything. Everyone had either a sour look or a disgusted look on their faces. In 2000-2001, CA Adventure was really disappointing and one could see every attraction within 3 hours even with heavy crowded days. It was truly horrible.

You know it's bad when the only selling point the Drew Carey Show cast has for California Adventure is "It's right next to Disneyland".

Rosie O'Donnell had a talk show in the late 90s-early 2000s (you can actually see the logo for her show in the lower-left corner of the screen when the segment starts). The cast of _The Drew Carey Show_ were likely her guests.
@userman446 жыл бұрын
The Drew Carey Show aired on ABC, which has been owned by Disney since the mid-nineties. So the Drew Carey cast probably had to pretend to like their employer's lame ride.

Drew and Rosie were also old standup buddies. They worked on a few projects together. And yes, ABC loved to drag their TV stars into Disney projects. Hence not only Drew in the video (and ride), but Colin Mochrie (the delivery man at the beginning) from Whose Line is it Anyway and Richard Kind and Barry Bostwick, who were on Spin City.
