I'm so glad you're making a video on the Ice Dragon. Even to this day, it makes me upset knowing such a cool creature got cut. A cold empty biome with a dragon lurking in it is just what Below Zero needed and where Subnautica 1 thrived. I'm dying to know why they removed especially after having a full model. It seems like something they put a lot of work into. It must've been hard letting it go before the full game released.
@iAletho11 ай бұрын
Yeah its seems it was cut in 2019 after one of Unknown Worlds developer conferences, it seems the whole biome was scrapped which meant the Ice Dragon unfortunately went aswell
@thomasdevlin582511 ай бұрын
I think it was ultimately deemed too similar to the sea dragon so they decided not to go through with it. You never know though, I'm pretty sure every creature that got a full model was eventually added at some point, I remember the ghost leviathan was just a disembodied model for a really long time until eventually it got added, and the rock puncher and giant lily pads were both only models for a long time, and they eventually both made it into below zero

The reason they didn't add it is because in the fandom a lot of people were saying they didn't want it in and that it looked bad basically there was this whole war of people wanting and not wanting it in and sadly we lost the Negative Nancie's won by crybabies that just because it had Dragon in the name it was gonna be a copypasta of the Sea Dragon Leviathan even tho the Chelicerate is the counterpart of the Reaper and the Shadow kinda is the counterpart to the Ghost

@@symbiotesoda1148 When Bellow Zero came out, and when I knew how downsized it was, it was really disappointed that they still used a lot of large scale creature, instead of opting for more unique threats that suit the environments. A threat that attacks in a group, or pod in the crested reaper's case, would work well in a more open setting, and in more cramped environments they could use the scale of your environment to make threats appear larger. They could've also made certain creatures respond to senses and/or take advantage of the environment they're in. A creature that uses a spotlight to search for its prey, creatures that camouflage to suit their surroundings, and something that I think could suit the alien environment well, is a potentially leviathan class starfish/sea-serpent hybrid, with the body itself being fairly slow moving, with many eyes on the underside of its body. While the body itself moves, whenever it sees a prey organism of suitable size, it will like a starfish on earth, remove its stomach from its body to consume its prey. In this case however, this hybrid creatures stomach is instead a long, fast moving, strongly resembles a snake, with a head at the tip of these limbs. There could be one of these appendages, or several, with them upon reaching their prey, having their "jaw" unhinge in order to consume their prey.

Hello, Below Zero beta tester here! Back when it was in development, polls were held to determine what creatures would make it into the game. The piece of concept art most people use with the ice dragon is no the art they went with when asking the community for feedback. The actual art used didn’t fit subnautica’s style and had a far more fantasy look. Thus, the community voted to not put it in the game. I hope this trivia helps!

Below zero only had two hostile underwater leviathans, only one of which was a regular threat with the shadow leviathan only appearing in the end game. Here I will state a couple of the creatures here that made it into the game but went through some changes. 1:51 this made its way into below zero as a ventgarden, it’s much bigger and holds spiral plants if you need that for any recipe. 5:09 two of these designs made it as other creatures but lost the abilities. Trivalves as a non-breedable pet and triops found in the deep twisty bridges and a couple other places. Triops are small enough to grab from the wild and if you want one it’s better to run into them by chance than go out looking for them, Spikey traps and rarely squidsharks lurk in its habitat and it’s a sparse creature anyway. 5:19 this creature went through major changes but I see resemblance to the noot fish. Noot fish are harmless but will devour anything they can eat whole. Big enough to eat a peeper but small enough to hold. 10:08 no trace of the ice dragon is left in the brinewing but it’s ability, to freeze prey. If you see titan holefish or symbiotes brinewing could be near. (Symbiotes are more parasite though) 6 months later: I now know symbiotes actually defend titan holefish, I used to think it was a meal.

I feel like for the next subnautica game, rotnest should make a return having rotnest evolve overtime and make the game harder the longer the players in it would be interesting, maybe make it so we haft to research a potential cure for the parasitic infection

Predatory Vent Garden would have been cool, surprised it never even got a concept. It would be so easy, just make one with an opaque skin that bulges and ripples occasionally and uses its tendrils to drag creatures inside. Where half a dozen chelicerate live.

As scared as I would've been to play the game, I would've loved to see the Ice Dragon in action!

Ive seen the thalassacean, its become a mod creature for subnautica de-extinction. I didnt know there was more than 2 variants tho, im gonna have to keep a look out for any in my game
