Superb Rendition by Vidushi Aruna Sairam ! Subrahmanyena Rakshithoham Ragam Sudha Dhnanyasi Adi Talam Muthuswami Dikshitar Krithi Kalugumalai is a small town between Kovilpatti and Sankarankoil; the place is known for the Kalugasalamoorthi temple. The main deity of this temple is Lord Murugan. The main deity hall and entrance hall is excavated inside the foot hills of Kalugumalai in the south western corner of the hill and with external structural additions. The temple has many aesthetic sculptures.Thetemple dates to 18th century. The main deity is Lord Murugan with his wife Deivanai. The temple complex also has shrines of Shiva, Akhilandeswari, Vinayakar and many lesser deities. Muthuswami Dikshithar has written the above composition in Suddhadhanyasi raga, about this Diety of temple. The raga mudra is woven as "kRttikA suta Suddha dhanyEna" in the charanam. It is only from Dikshithar, that we have separate compositions in Suddha Dhanyasi and Udayaravichandrika. In the composition, Sri Guruguha murthe, the raga is shown as " AtmOdaya ravi candrikA saMdIptE". This clearly indicates that Dikshithar had clear idea about the difference in these ragas; though many of the modern day musicians and musicologists consider both as same. Pallavi Subrahmanyena Rakshitoham Ashtaadasha Lochanaakhandena I am protected by Lord Subrahmanya. He looks splendid with eighteen divine eyes. Anupallavi Prabra Vaamaadi Pujita Padena Purandara Manollaasa Karanena Prabra, Vama and other sages worship his feet. He makes Indra happy. Charanam: Kahnakashaila Vihaarena Varena Valli Devasenaa Ramanena Akaara Vruttena Saanandena Bhogamoksha Pradaanena Nityena Venkateshwara Naama Rupena Vicitra Vishaakha Mahotsavena Shukara Hasya Prakaasha Guruguhena Krittikaasuta Shuddha Dhanyena Glorious Subrahmanya strolls pleasantly on Kanaka Hill. Valli and Devasena are his consorts. He is the first, like 'akara' in alphabet. He is ever blissful. He bestows enjoyment as well as liberation. He is eternal. King Venkatesvara worshipped him. He shines well in Visakha festival. He is Guru Guha that knows the secret of Sage Suka. Subrahmanya is the blessed son of Kruttika Devatas. Ragam Suddha Dhanyasi :- Ragas that have in them all of five notes are usually the very adaptable and instantly captivating ones. The pentatonic raga Suddhadhanyasi is symmetrical in ascent and descent and takes on Sadja, Sadharana Gandhara, Suddha Madhyama, Pancama and Kaisiki Nishada as its notes. The classical pieces in this scale include “Entanerchina” of Thyagaraja, and “Subrahmanyena” and “Sri Parthasarathy” of Dikshitar.

Namaskaram! This song of Lord Subramanya. I have one kind request, in the line "Venkateshwara Naama Rupena Vicitra Vishaakha Mahotsavena" the line Naama Rupena" every singer has replaced it with a word. Could you please what is the word you have replaced. But the original one is "Naama Rupena". I tried with all prominent singers, but this line sings very fast so could not get the right word that is replaced. Regards,

Yes it is venkateswhara naama rupena ; some singers replace with venkateshara vibhavitena both are equivalent but it is still uncertain which one is the original one it means Lord Subrahmanya is considered as the saviour , who resolves problem of people just as Lord Venkateshwara does that is what I have understood exact meaning can be known from websites or purohita or knowledgeable persons
