An approach that ended up Micheal Hirst writing himself into a corner in the long run. I didn't even watch the last season because characters were nothing but blank after Ragnar. Everybody, everything was based on Ragnar and his exploits in this show. Same goes for Aslaug, she was a good natured, agreeable, proud and strong in her own way sort of a woman. But after season 2, she became a disillusioned, extremely cold one, and Ragnar had an unjustified disdain towards her. Hell, she, Lagertha and Ragnar even had a threesome in season 2 but we ended up with Lagertha murdering her out of spite.

I was speaking to her Cruelty and Neglect of Everything but Ivar. She used Ragnar and His fame to benefit herself and herself alone. She was his complete opposite in all ways. From the way they thought about the larger world, with him willing to be open to the world while she wanted to destroy anything not under her power. How they thought about and treated family. How they thought of power and how it should be wielded. Ragnar for all his faults was a man who did what needed to be done to safeguard those he loved and those people he called kinfolk. Where as Aslaug was about no one but her own power, that she used a Pregnancy to steal. She hated Bjorn and his child, and purposeful allowed a small child to die of neglect and thought it was funny. Her supposed family. She was false, fake, and spiteful to all of Ragnar’s people and looked down on them all. Without cause or ability. She showed up in Kattegat pretending to be a shield maiden, remember that? Yet, never once lifted a weapon, and even admitted to Lagertha it was just “theater for the peasants”, (paraphrasing). She only cared for Ivar the outcast because he was an outcast that she could keep isolated, because no one accepted her. And had the nerve to choose Floki to teach him about the gods because of what she suspected he did to Aethelstan. Further trying to deepen the divide between him and Ragnar. The actions of a real loving women eh? The only thing she did seem to know how to do was drive everyone away from the land they called home, boss around slaves bought with her husbands wealth and fame, And to live off that fame and power created by Ragnar and His people. While actually accomplishing nothing for herself but stealing a man, not because he loved her, but because of the seer’s prophecy about more sons.

Biggest mistake of his life. I’m married with three kids, but I’m gone all the time for work. Had a young lady next to me on a flight a couple weeks back chat me up.
