Love your videos, love the program, but you guys NEED to stop blasting our eardrums with the intro music and then setting the voice volume so low. Yer killin' me with this.

How the Distance node could be used to extend the color a bit. I found this in your course: store.substance3d.com/blog/qu-bin-weaves-fibrous-fabrics-substance-designer and academy.substance3d.com/courses/qu-bin-weaves-fabrics-with-substance-designer . But it's not clear what mask was used and what to expect. Thanks.

Is that procedural tile substance available somewhere for learning? Either as a video tutorial or the actual substance itself?

How to random offset x and y with tile generator. I can only check on vertical offset on off but it is always lineup with either vertical or horizontal
@Substance3D

***** You can do this by using creating a function of the parameter and using the Random function from the Library>Functions to get a random to output.

Hi wes, I am curious, when i use edge detect, i can make a nice rounded edge leather pattern, but at some places I get big black gaps , how would you go about covering this up? I had to create a mask in photoshop drawn by hand and i just compose it on top. Any ideas?

Excuse me mr.Wes If i am not mistaken Voronoi maps are used to produce fracture on meshes as well,isn't it?I'm just asking because i'm not sure,i had seen it once on a VFX book and just wondering if it's possible to use that map made from substance designer to guide fracture.Excuse me if i have understood something wrong. P.s. Keep up good work :)
@Substance3D
@Substance3D 9 жыл бұрын
Νίκος Θεοδοσιαδης Hi, thanks very much : ) Yes, you can use Voronoi patterns to produce the fracture. This technique is used to modulate the voronoi pattern to create the cracks which are then slope blurred using the slop blur node. This will make a good tutorial : )

Hey Wes, I already read the docs but I cant seem to figure it out: How would I use this node to create dilation between my different texture sections when creating an Atlas? I would like to be able to dilate my maps as a last step in my graph, like what Painter produces on export, so I wouldnt need to do an extra step going into another app for this. Also, this would help to have a tweakable substance with exposed dilation width settings which would be very helpful. Is it possible? Or do you know of any other way to do this?
@harrysanders818
@harrysanders818 6 жыл бұрын
I jus figured it out :) . Had to use a color to mask node to mask out my islands and then put it into the mask input of the distance node. Just needed to put in a solid background color beforehand instead of having an empty alpha background. (Doh!) Works great.

how could make the stones a little bit larger or squre and not that smooth shapes? thank you
@Substance3D
@Substance3D 6 жыл бұрын
In this example, you need to increase the size of the input shade to the distance node. In the latest versions of designer there is a scale parameter and a lower scale value will make the shapes larger.

How does one use a Ambient Occlusion as a blend mask? I would like to have a dirt texture use the black/darker values, and a grass texture use the white/lighter values.
@Substance3D
@Substance3D 8 жыл бұрын
+NightGamerFX You could use the AO as the Opacity input on a blend node. You can then use a histogram scan right after the AO and use the Position value to drive the intensity. If you are blending materials, you can use the Material Blend node the same way.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can not replicate the result that you get from the second distance node where you use the mask and source. All I get is the dots from the tile random with gradient streaks coming out from the sides of the squares going straight making a cross shape. Any suggestions? I'm on 5.4.0 on steam.

Figured it out. Don't know if I just miss it in the video, but the tile generator should be set to disc pattern type and not the default squares :P

Allegorithmic that would be very useful. The depth and complexity of designer is pretty crazy! Watching videos like this is a great way to learn but I'm sure being able to look into a sub and really understand it will be massively beneficial from a learning stand point. Thank!

It would be nice to have a tutorial on some of the more simple aspects of that stone wall. I do recall seeing a tutorial on KZbin that uses colour blends and material blends to make a peeled paint looking colour, and that looks a bit like the inner edges of that wall. I wonder if that's how that's done. I think I might try to recreate something similar to that wall someday.
