Great tutorial! now here are 2 tips beginners may find useful: 1- When I import my mesh to substance painter some areas/faces are invisible! solution : you're normals are flipped! check face orientation in blender and you can simply flip the normals with alt+n 2- When I bake the maps there are some weird dark shapes showing on my mesh! solution: You need to uv unwrap your mesh before importing it AND make sure the UV islands aren't overlapping

Problem while importing to Blender : Decays seem jiggly, hard surfaces has problems and some parts of the model seems flat shaded because of textures. How to solve ? : 1-Export the mesh from substance. ( I exported as fbx) : This solves the jiggly look 2-Import the mesh into Blender and apply the textures as usual. (If you don't know how, watch carefully 5:12) 3-Change the color space of the normal texture from sRGB to Non-Color : This solves other problem Note: If you think roughness is a bit off, try changing roughness color space to non-color as well. These 3 solved the problem for me. Thanks everyone for showing me the 1st step. For the 3rd step , the crucial one, you can thank me by subscribing and liking my videos.

I don't know the context but I was under the impression that good Uvs and normal baking would nullify this issue. I never triangulate my meshes but then again I don't really use Painter for game assets which should always be triangulated anyway before exporting.

Is it possible to apply a material back to a mesh in Blender if I unwrapped in Substance Painter instead of Blender? It's a moderate(1.2mil) poly sculpt and I would like to render a static image so I don't want to spend a lot of time unwrapping and uv mapping but I would like more flexibility with cameras and lighting than what's available in the render options in Painter. EDIT: Figured it out. For anyone else wondering. You just have to export the mesh from Substance and reimport back into Blender so it takes the texture map with. Substance made the mesh gigantic though so that was interesting but I just scaled to normal size and everything is good now.

@gruffelwop6767

So i think i found a way to fix this. You need to export the mesh from substance painter (under file -> export mesh, btw it doesnt matter if u apply triangulation).Then import the fbx u just exported into blender, apply your textures and now it shouldnt be wiggly anymore. Edit: If your lenses dont have a texture, just apply the body texture and for blender i think its best to set the padding to diffusion and dilation (at least cgmatter did that)

It could be that you are using your normal map in sRGB mode. Change the "Color Space" to "Non-Color". So the whole process is in the Shading tab: > Shift+A --> "Texture" --> "Image Texture" and choose your normal map --> set "Color Space" to "Non-Color" --> Shiftt+A again --> add a "Normal Map" (the node is called Normal Map) --> Connect texture node (first node) to Normal Map node (second node), and Normal map node to the Principled BSDF

Really good course, I've wanted to look at Substance Painter for a while and this course has given me a really good overview of what it can do. I have a couple of quick questions though: 1) I imported the 3D model into Blender to take a look at it and noticed the lenses were their own object in the file tree, why does it show up there in Blender but in Painter only the Body and Legs are shown? 2) I've noticed Substance has been giving Blender a bit of love lately in their videos, any chance of proper plugins for it like there is for Maya, UE, Unity etc? There are plugins made by a developer called Xolotl so I don't see why they can make a plugin but Substance can't?

1: a slightly different version of the mesh was used in the video. It's of no real concern for the texturing, you can just split it yourself if you need this. 2: I can't say very much but we're looking into this for sure.
