Subtraction-fest 13 ~ Subtraction Terminology Demystified (Explained)

So, terminology was established several thousand years after the subtraction operation. Now it is obvious how some tings are much easily expressed in numbers, than in words.Thank you for a bit of history, Graeme.

+MrVoayer So much of our mathematical terminology comes from Greek and Latin. There are some terms, also, from other languages (like Arabic). I find the etymology of mathematical terms to be quite fascinating and often share this with my students. Early next year, I hope to start a video series, for example, giving the etymological and historical background to the names of various geometric shapes. I hope you will enjoy it :-) I am glad that you also like the history, friend. I find that it helps make mathematics "live" for me ... and I find I am enriched by learning how mathematics is so thoroughly enmeshed in our history.
