Forester 2019 engine died and car stopped while driving, in the middle of the road. With 24k miles, bought new, meticulously dealer maintained. Already happened twice in a three week period. Dealer apparently cannot find cause. Car back again at Lynne’s Subaru in NJ. Extremely disappointed

Thermo control valve issue. Seems to be very common on the 2019 Forester. I just had it happen to mine at 76K miles, even though its out of warranty the dealer got the repairs approved at no cost to me. Not sure who exactly they had to speak to, but I am assuming Subaru corporate is aware of this issue and probably covering it.

Just had this happen to my Subaru Forester. Thankfully it was an easy at-home fix. Unscrew your gas cap, let it sit unhooked for 1 minute, then screw back on until it clicks. Then turn on engine. We just had an oil change and other maintenance so I thought it was that. However my spouse recently went on a trip and although I tightened the gas cap the first go 'round, I didn't let it sit for one minute unhooked. Tried that after seeing that recommendation on another video and that did the trick.

Yes. This usually happens after you let your wife or girlfriend use the car and fuel it up. Typically will scare the hell out of the owner but it’s just caused by incompetent gas cap screwing.

May 1, 2024: Yesterday, I experienced the same issue with my 2019 Forester (purchased in 2021). After reading these and other posts, I tried the gas cap, just to be sure. Nothing changed. This morning, I took it to the Subaru dealership. Upon inspection, they found the same problems listed here. I didn’t have an appointment, so they worked me in around appointments. I was there from 8:15 am until 1:55 pm. Long wait, BUT, the warranty had been extended and ALL this work WAS COVERED. I paid NOTHING! The guy even test drove my car to be sure everything was ok.

I just had that issue less than a week ago on my 2020. OBD said P000A code, which can be a few things. I am having very similar problem. 2020 outback with 42,500 miles on it (basically brand new), only had engine oil pan replaced and basic oil filter change / fluid maintenance. Also, makes a very weird noise occasionally when putting car into reverse or when going under 5mph in drive which started a few months ago. It seems to be driving fine except for all the dashboard light indicators being on and that weird grinding noise. I'm afraid the dealership will charge me over $1,000 to fix said problems. Anyone else have similar problems and/or solutions? Would very much appreciate any support. Thank you.

Sorry for the late response, I've been sick for a week now. Temp engine was technically expired by a day but the service tech got it approved. Not everything falls under the power train warranty. I personally will never buy another Subaru!!! I'm going look through my service invoices to hopefully find the information on the trouble I had and others. Also mine has given me trouble with the tire sensors, the radio and the stop feature that shuts the engine off at stops for fuel conservation. Very disappointing.

So Subaru pick 90% of the 3500us of the repair cost, paul miller was not happy with me . Dude get rid of it anyway you can , trade it burn it whatever but never buy from paul miller again ok that is what i did .
