English subtitles available - State of construction work at Berliner Tor station (Hamburg, Germany) in July 2024 - In the past years 2 new bridges have been inserted by DB (Deutsche Bahn = German railways). In 2017 the 2-track bridge for suburban trains in the direction of Bergedorf and for long-distance trains had been replaced. In 2022 the single-track bridge for suburban trains from Bergedorf to Hamburg central station had been inserted.
Starting in 2024, the bridge of Berlinertordamm will be replaced. Berlinertordamm is the next section of the street "Beim Strohhause", it's the street leading across the railway line Hamburg- Lübeck and across Bürgerweide street. The southern part of the bridge is to be replaced in 2024/25, the northern part will follow in 2026/27. Plans have been made so that street traffic will always be possible on the remaining half of the bridge. This work is coordinated by the authority for streets, bridges and waters of Hamburg (Landesbetrieb Straßen, Brücken und Gewässer Hamburg).
By the end of July, 2024, suburban trains had to reverse at Berliner Tor, coming from both parts of the line. Trains to and from Poppenbüttel use track 1, trains to and from Wedel use track 2. Passengers have to walk over to the other train in order to continue their journey.
Another bridge will also have to be built: a new bridge to the platforms. In 2024, the platform for trains to and from Aumühle can only be reached by a temporary bridge. This status lasts for more than 3 years now.
