Hey man - just did this this morning, and it seems to have 100% fixed my problem. I have a 1994 Silverado 1500 with the 5.7 V8. About three weeks ago, I was running low on gas and I stopped at a place I had never been before. A few miles from home, my truck started having no power and I couldn't get it over 40 mph and I had the pedal to the floor. I immediately thought it was bad gas, so I went down to my usual station and filled it up with 93 octane and got a bottle of lucas injector cleaner and poured in. It started acting better almost immediately, but still had hesitation and I could feel the power loss. It also was hard to start last weekend after taking it to Lowes. I was thinking either fuel pump or maybe fuel pressure regulator. Some people over on the GMT-400 subreddit, and your video told me to replace the fuel filter. I could have never believed that something so cheap would have turned out to be the problem! I did like you and blowed on the old filter and new filter. It was a 10 minute job! On the old one, I could hardly blow through it! So since I haven't had a chance to test the hot start issue, I can say right now with about 90% certainty that this solved it. I went for a test drive this morning and have smooth acceleration, no dead spots or hesitation in the throttle. So I just wanted to say, Thank You!

@Suburban Ranch, thank you. On my daughter's 1994 GMac 1500, this was one of the easiest replacements I have done. There were no arrows on my purchase, so I just matched the direction and shape of the replaced one. Once the correct size tools were matched, ready, set replaced.

You are under the truck that's on a lift. It would be nice to know the size wrenches used to remove the old filter. I don't want to crawl under with a lot of tools I won't need. I'm 72 and don't have a hard floor, so crawling in the dirt in and out for wrenches. When you do a video on repair or replacement, it would be nice if you take into consideration that not everybody has access to an overhead lift. Yes the the replacement will be the same.

How is this man supposed to know what brand fuel line or fuel filter you have on your truck? What if he gave the sizes he used and yours were different, youd still be upset wouldnt you? If your 72 years old you have more then enough time to do one more google search for what size the standard fuel line and filter are on top of this 4 minute video.

LMC truck sells the plastic bracket that holds all the lines and the fuel filter. Yours is broken (they all break.. they used to open to remove the filter.. they lasted two filter changes, lol). The new style is just a slip fit (doesn't open), and should last allot longer. And I remove myself from the t-shirt offer. :)

Looks like we are SOL.. but ran across a second option... Weldon Fuel Pump Mounts 600-24 (and similar).. If you don't mind drilling into the frame, I imagine you could drill right through the remaining plastic bracket, and use this mount in stock location. You can find it at Summit Racing for like 14 bucks. There are several sizes, and I can't remember off the top of my head how wide the filter is.

@@SuburbanRanch You can use pipe strapping that is sold by the roll. It's perforated with different size holes and comes in both plastic and metal rolls available at your hardware store. It's the stuff some people use to strap their water heaters with. You can make it to fit to the existing old bracket mounting bolts and just remove or loosen the bottom bolt to slide the filters in and out the next time.

What size wrench did you use?

@Hayden Stoneking I can’t remember off hand. Someone said 21mm and 16mm. That is possible but I don’t think we had the exact right size at the time. I believe the size varies based on what filter you buy. Someone else commented saying theirs was 19mm/ 3/4in.

can you change the fuel pump with a full tank of gas

@Saucy Moccasin Beats The fuel pump… yeah as long as you have access to it. Probably have to drop the tank or take the bed off though. We haven’t done that so not 100% sure.

It is possible to cut an access hole in the bed to change the pump, which would obviate the need for a tank drop.
