Days of Being a New Yorker - Episode 2 "Subway Crush" | A Short Film | Sony FX30

This is the second episode of Days of Being a New Yorker, an anthology series about a work-from-home New Yorker attempts to escape his 9-5 only to realize the inevitable. This is episode is based on subway crushes. If you've ever lived in a city where there is subway transportation, you can definitely relate to this. You see an attractive person and become instantly infatuated. You know it's meant to be when you both lock eye contact. You start imagining your lives together and how you two would be great. However, it takes a leap of faith to go for it. Unfortunately, most of the time, no one makes the move or worse is too late, but life moves on.
- Notes -
This was originally in another short film, but after review, we've decided to remove these scenes due to them not adding a whole lot to the plot. Nonetheless, these scenes were actually my favorites which is why I wanted to put together this stand-alone short film.
This is also my first short film working with actors. These are my lovely friends that I made in New York and they were kind enough to help me out on this project. Please enjoy!

When I originally uploaded this, the film was longer. After feedback from viewers and others, I decided to take out the whole first act as it didn't really add much to the story. I hope you agree as well and enjoy this updated version!

My name is Sam and I run Conquest West Films, a film production studio. I work as a full-time economic consultant for my 9-5, but work as a filmmaker for my 5-9 hoping to one day make an awesome feature film. I love how you captured a crush normally thats how they start with someone you usually see but never approach making the person think of them after just a glance. When he went home he clearly looks beaten from a long day but as soon as he thinks of seeing the woman his crush he feels at ease but he could also be beaten by the fact that they might not get together but still he has a glimmer of hope on his face. I also felt part of his heartbreak when he saw her with another guy i also liked the added wanna go for a run? 😂 even though that left some questions about who the text is from maybe a lover? Or friend? Still that last bit left me wanting to know more. Overall i think you did a amazing job at capturing the crush because usually having crushes most people Don't end up together its a awkward but interesting infatuation that doesn't always result in love. Just an idea i wanted to add that maybe you could make more films without added music just the pure sounds of daily life i feel as though people can connect through emotions with sounds and it also challenges you to make the movie with more depth and i feel like you'd do great at that if that's what you want but of course do what feels best to you! And thank you for making this wonderful film.

Love the shots, keep up the good work man. PS: You sound really experienced in this stuff, so do you know of anyone that's interested in a suspensful/inspiring thumbnail? I am a video designer and planning on perfectly recreating the ideas of content creators... So I'm planning on asking the right questions, matching the brand, studying the viewers, matching the personality... and then using the right techniques (sometimes I'd like to jump out of the comfort-zone and learn new stuff) so that I can keep adjusting till they're satisfied with their ideal thumbnail.

some great shots and music...just remove the first 57 seconds( makes me not want to watch the video)... and this would work as a decent short(less is more here in my opinion )... just have a look at how it looks if you only watch after that part. it looks to me like a more interesting cinematic piece... keep it up, some great stuff ;) p.s. I can see how this would be an excerpt belonging to a bigger short film, where the use of the piano music in the scene gets justified but as a standalone short just doesn't feel good to me and does not work as an intro that would grab attention

Oh wow, that would actually have made this a more concrete stand alone film. This was actually an excerpt from a film I’m currently working on, but we decided take them out as they were distracting from the plot. I definitely was bias on the arrangement as these were my favorite shots and I wanted to use them. I guess that made me not think about the film as a whole. Thank you so much for taking the time to give your input. I would definitely appreciate more of your feedback in future films😊
