I just have to say how much I appreciate Erin's responses to all of the audio questions that I'm sure he gets inundated with. He never acts like the guy with all the answers despite his vast knowledge and technical experience. He never seems to be of the mindset that there's one correct answer and any other idea is wrong. He rarely puts down ideas or opinions that don't align with his own way of thinking and always remains respectful of others. Being honest about myself, I sometimes can come off as abrasive without intending to, so I admire that aspect of his personality. Thanks to Joe and Chana too, I love these episodes because the three of you have great chemistry together and it creates some really interesting and fun conversations. I've learned so much from the years of listening to the show every week and I hope you guys continue to do it for many more years to come!

Thank you for going out of your way and taking the time to say this. It really helps balance out some of the negative comments we get once in a while. We appreciate you!

PSA subs are amazing, the bass, the low end extension, the sound quality is just beyond superb!

I love how Erin gives the vibe of being the person that reads all of the terms and conditions before singing. Where he would also find 2-4 spelling mistakes along the way.

Erin is still a fun guy. He can let go when he wants.

Joe, I've missed you, buddy. Also, I have two 12" subs in sealed enclosures. With DSP, I can tune my subs to hit 20Hz at -3db, and 18Hz at -6db, without bottoming out, and no port means no chuffing. You have to tune your system, and take advantage of room nodes.

Most people get an F3 around 6-8hz "in-room" with the S2112., from the REW measurements i've seen on AVS. Shane had 2 issues, #1 had a massive null and had way to much gain, #2 had a defective unit and instead of RMA's the unit he complained multiple times on several videos. PSA doesn't have aggressive limiters on their subs so if someone doesn't know what their doing they can easily overdrive them.

In Shane's video, I didn't see him mention that his unit was defective, and I think he did a fair but harsh review. Many big subwoofers can get in room extension down to the single digits, but PSA uses professional drivers that don't have much excursion. No wonder it hit its limits pretty quickly playing infrasonics compared to other subwoofers he has tested. Matt Poes did a video recently on why using PA types subs are not a good idea for sealed enclosures in home theater use. Very informative and it could explain why the PSA sub didn't perform very well. Also the size of the enclosures PSA uses seem to be pretty small, especially for home theater use. Check out the huge ported enclosure RSL uses for their speed woofer 12 inch ported subwoofer. The driver to enclosure size ratio is really big and the enclosure size is not that much smaller than what PSA uses for some of their 18 inch ported subwoofers.

I have the tv1813, and it’s the most balanced sub i have ever owned. The pro audio driver does wonders for music, but still delivers the slam for movies. I have never once felt like the bass in my music was lacking. I would go with the ported sub because you will get more for movies while still having great music performance.

I have a ported psa 15 inch the ev1513m and it’s easily the best sub I’ve ever had in movies I get tons of tactile subsonic waves hitting me in the chest and you can feel at least that is my description it’s pressurizes my 16x17 room that’s is open to dining room and hallway sounds good with music and ht can’t imagine what the bigger ones can do only thing better would be jtr at this point and I only paid about 1200 for it

another thought... How much power do you have to push them. 21" sealed is going to require more power to push to the same levels as the 18" ported. Ive popped my circuit breaker (20 amp) running 2 ported 18". So 2 21" sealed would likely not hit my same target levels (pressure and frequency) any easier.
@sudd36607 ай бұрын
power if no issue in sealed, if eq a sealed to have equal output down to 15hz then 15 hz is the limit, not the power the amp has.
@GTGrabber7 ай бұрын
@vrusimov this was my point. A sealed box will take more power to reach a 15hz 120 db output than a ported box tuned to 15hz.

Have you guys eyed on Tonewinner 12 and 15 inch subs?

I'm confused why the sealed is often recommended to be a smaller cubic foot air volume than the ported enclosure? This makes NO Sense to me! The sealed should be a little if not a Lot larger because it has more spring efect than the ported. If the ported is Too large some drivers will Bottom Out prior to full power. Now wouldn't it Make Sense for a smaller enclosure to be ported to Extend (what would be less) Low End response? Like maybe you need More Space, or more enclosures than you've got room for, and Need to get down to the Low nitty gritty?

So much lack of good info from the OP. Mid size room could be a 15x15 living room that is part of an open floor plan so really is 7500 cu ft. Need ported for that. Questions like this are rabbit holes.
