It very much has to do with proper form and execution. Most folks really do work much harder performing friction fire than is needed if you understand the best way to go about it.

Far North Bushcraft And Survival I better stop watching and get practicing. I've had good success with a bow drill but always felt like I was working very hard there at the end. Any tips would be very much appreciated. We have a lot of aspen which is what I usually use. Thanks for your help.

Willow or poplar are my favorite choices for friction fire woods.

Well Lonnie, Connie, we appreciate the work you do to bring this vital knowledge to us. This wasn't the most visually compelling vid, but I love that you showed the truth of the adversity created by the wet set, and showed how to get through it - just keep trying. A lot of vids seem like the "instructor" has an eqo and they only show everything going right the first time. Then when chumps (like us) go out, and we consistently fail, we feel all that much hopeless about our skills. Seeing an "instructor" struggling, persevering and overcoming is the real lesson here. Survival isn't a book and a half of skills, it is a book and a half of skills AND a whole lotta perseverance. Thank you for showing the full deal. On an unrelated note, we were shooting a vid the other day, and you guys came up, could we clip a picture of you guys from your videos to put on our vid, giving you guys a shout out? Thanks for your consideration!

Lonnie: Very good information I have struggled before in wet conditions to use a bow drill. Have been only using primitive methods under ideal conditions with this new information I can try again in adverse weather and feel I may be better able to get a fire. Lonnie, you are so creative, I like to watch your video a lot. Infact, sometimes I watch your video over and over again just to get every detail, that you had said. I guess, after watching your demonstrated for making 🔥 fire, I guess I could use it for a backup., or what ever that purpose. Although, I had learned a lot from you, about how to survive in the wild.
