this msg should be heard by a lot of grown folk too.... so many have given up thinking its too late to fix the opportunities they have blown in their naive youth.

Love the comparison between a Culinary educated chef, and a 'regular' cook. It's that sort of contrast that people need to realize in the debate of getting a degree. I am happy I worked hard and got mine!

I agree with everything and Guru is spot on but I'm compelled to say something here..for those of us who unfortunately were unable to get a degree, you can still work your ass off to achieve a 'gourmet' pallet. no doubt will you be missing out on important things like hands on with top end gear and 1:1 time with whomever you're assisting, but the journey doesn't end there. I've still had the honor to work side by side with some great platinum producers and through subleasing work on SSL's and other top end gear. but I feel that the way this was said almost comes across as if you didn't go to school that you will never be able to achieve a final product like those who have. maybe that's not what was intended to be conveyed, but for anyone who may have taken it that way, do not be discouraged. if you didn't go to school out of laziness than OK, you probably wouldn't have gained much even if you did. but for those who simply didn't have a degree in the cards but work just as hard, if not harder, you can kick some serious ass and show these college kids what's up. know your sources before you stick just anything in your brain, study hard, read like you were in college studying for an exam and then read more. buy solid videos from top guys. trial and error, network, get your ass in a big studio, even if you have to sub-lease it, you never know where that'll lead you. I think I understand where he is coming from and for those who just think they can go into Guitar Center and buy there way to a great final product, you are in for a rude awakening. but for those with good work ethics and a drive to overcome life challenges, patiences with yourself, the list goes on…you can find success. I hope this comment is taken as nothing more than encouragement, many roads lead to Rome, not just Main Ave. Thank you Guru for taking the time to share with us, I am a huge fan of your work. :)

I agree with you R Dog, this isn't what main stream/corporate is pushing! If we gathered together as a community to get this type of info to our youth and community that may be the only sure way! KRS-ONE SONG "DISASTER KIT" is another one that should be in the millions of views!

I been in the music business for 20 years.. and one thing ive learned is theres a lot of people who are sheep! what I mean by that is theres a lot of hype that pushes people or product up! and once its up and the word is out the masses start to fallow and swallow the hype! I call it the wayne effect! it starts to be oh its gota be this or that him or her or it wont work! but its all believable after the fact! what ive learn is you don't have to be an expert to be a professional and you don't have to be a professional to be an expert! you might have no school and cook better than any chef in the world!
