Hey, glad I came across your channel 🙂.. Hope you don't mind sharing some input, I'm currently in my last 3 months of saica articles/external audit ... But I want to go into risk management.. Do you think the adjustment would be significant from external to internal.. Since we rarely would test controls
@successbysanjna4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly, thanks for your question. haha wow making the change to risk management - thats a big move, but good move ;) I personally don't think the adjustment would be difficult, as when I was in external audit for 3 months I was actually doing some control testing, but obviously it wasn't to the detail that we do in risk management. I think you will actually be fine, its relatively easy to pick up and given you've worked in external audit, you would have the right attitude to pick up the skills :) I wouldnt be too worried :)

Well we are the professionals or subject matter experts within the risk field. So we will ensure if risk is appropriately mitigated for our clients :) Hope that makes sense!

Probably a bit old now but did you find your previous banking experiences (contact centre, business banking) when you were still at uni useful/relevant at all in your new banking job? or not really?

I got an offer in Risk Assurance from a Big 4 but I can't seem to decide if I want to take it :( The salary is okay/good for my city but I'm very scared of the risk of being pigeon-holed into IT audit. Like I wouldn't mind doing it for a year but I'm scared of the exit opportunities. Is it true that it's somewhat boring? I want to develop skills in data analysis and the job description does mention data assurance but when I read on forums, everyone just say you take "screenshots". Curious to see your thoughts.. Would only take the gig for salary and brandname as of right now. Also - do you do 9to5 for IT Auditing or is it closer to 50/60/70 hours a week?
@successbysanjna4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I’m not in IT audit, so I’m not entirely sure. I assume it would be like external audit which can get pretty intense. I know for internal audit the work is pretty much 9-5 or it was in my division at least. I feel like you never know if you don’t try it, you’ll feel constantly worried, so just give it a try or reach out to someone that may work there and catch up for coffee to discuss :) good luck with it all

One advantage of IT Audit on External clients is that work is more stable than doing internal audit on consulting clients. Now during corona time the firms are talking about work for consulting drying up, but there is no mention of external audit going away. Even if the market crashes clients still need to do SOX compliance and issue SOC 1 Reports. Yes it is pigeon holey, but other areas in big 4 are also like that (e.g salt tax, international tax, and aviation finance), but this will give you the opportunity to work on the large audit engagements. However one downside is definitely the hours, you will work long hours but not many weekends. I used to do consulting and during my down time I would study for the cpa exam. Weigh the pros and cons and make a judgement.

Hi Omar, Financial Analysis is something I want to do in the future (I am in my masters) and I would really appreciate you answering two questions please : did you passed the CFA ? What prior experiance allowed you to land this job ? Thank you 😊
@OmarAhmed-vh8yo5 жыл бұрын
@@myriam221 Hi Myriam Although CFA is not necessary but it is always good to have it if you want to get into hedge funds and many other departments. In my opinion it gives you more options and opens more doors for you, plus it looks good on your CV😉. Regarding how I landed the job was I did a summers internship intially, and then once graduated I went for the graduate scheme and got in alhamdulillah. Which country are you in? It also helps if you know people in the banking industries?
@myriam2215 жыл бұрын
@@OmarAhmed-vh8yo Thank you so much for your answer !! I was hesitating about doing it, but I think I'll do it next year inshaAllah, you're right it can only look good and make me learn more about this field. I am from Paris, my sister works at BNP and I worked there for summer internships, but still they prefere students from Business schools (it's specific to France I think). Next January I am doing a longer internship in audit bc it is also a field I am interested in and can help you have better opportunities in the futur. Al hamdoullilah it is great that from your internship you could then have an oppening, I hope I'll have the same experiance during final year ! Again thank you por your piece of advice, very kind of you :)
