Following on from the little story you told... many machine “malfunctions” are basically the machine doing what you told it to do not what you wanted it to do!

That is so correct!

My favorite quote from a pressman "It is only a machine it just does what you tell it". I used that for years when I was troubleshooting a press, it always made me think what was I telling it wrong.

Just love these videos of you hard at work...sure makes me homesick for my many years in the trade. You are 100% correct about operator error as opposed to machine...lol...only once do I blame crappy 20# lavender 8.5 × 11 run through a Docutech on a humid day. I had to run it 2 sheets booklet fin size 5.5 × 8.5 (slight facetrim) on a Horizon (very similar to your towers/stictcher/trimmer unit) and I did everything humanly possible to get that job done without 100% waste...😧 btw...I've got a flying screwdriver story too...but mine ended up in my brothers calf....ooops...

Haha! Man we have a lot in common! Thanks for the comment. I also agree, paper can sometimes be the culprit.

Still amazed at how flat your carbonless prints.. Really need to play with my paper settings more to achieve a better results. My NCR comes out terribly curly. Thanks for the video. 👍
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
If you are using 8.5 x 11 maybe rotate the stock 90 degrees?

Amazing Channel, Amazing Person! How do you calculate pricing and mark-up ? I am starting out and would like to stay competitive while maintaining a good profit margin. Would you be kind and make a video on how you price out a job. Thanks

It’s the operator. Lol. Have to run the machine and don’t let the machine run you. That’s what I was told years ago 😃

Its so true, although sometimes I find people like to blame the equipment.

Hi Dan, how do u naminating book cover very nice, flat, not curl. I have to naminating two side. What s your resolution?
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
You would need to buy a double sided laminator or simply laminate one side at a time. Use digital film for lay flat
@kaiwang76554 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, it always fascinating me when your laminated sheet come up flat. Especially when it looks like it's single side laminated. Any tips for achieving such result? I tried the de-curl bar on my laminator, but when sheet are cool from the lamination. They tent to bend back on the side been laminated.
@justaprinter4 жыл бұрын
It could be your film or the paper. I use a "layflat" laminate from D & K. I do know that certain films will curl more than others. I think I use a nylon base film that is good for book covers and lays flat. Polyester, polypropylene, vinyl, etc. are not as good for this.
@kaiwang76554 жыл бұрын
@@justaprinter Thank you for the reply. I am using "Ultra Bond" which is designed for digital print...according to the supplier. And it looks like it's made of Polypropylene. Maybe that's why. I will see if there's local supplier who carry any of the nylon film in my area. Thank you for the information.

So laminators normally prefer long grain sheets?
@justaprinter4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter too much for the lamination. It is when the sheet is folded, grain should be perpendicular to the fold. I run long and short grain through my laminator.

Man i love your videos. You are doing such a great job and i can feel your passion, keep it going! I have one question, do you print on heavy structured paper? We are struggeling to find the right settings for our 3070. Greetings from Austria Patrick

I do print on 100lb linen cover stock from time to time. Not too often though. I'll make a video of what I do the next time I run some.

I think its the operator as long as its not the designers fault . If its a very poorly built machine it might be very difficult to get in the sweet spot. For example my radial arm saw Everyone know those are very difficult to keep those saws in alinement.
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
Very good point. Some machines do have design flaws for sure.
