From all the characters on Succession, we only see Tom do actual work. He misses the funeral and is literally sleep deprived through the last few episodes from burning the midnight oil. It is hilarious, that the show's ultimate (intended or not) statement about Capitalism is "Hard work pays off."

Shiv looked at Logan with tears in her eyes and literally begged him to spare Tom. But I see your point, she spent too long letting Tom think she didn’t have his back. Which is pretty mean. I won’t deny that she’s full of it sometimes, but she was probably right that Kendall didn’t have what it takes. He’s Logan without what made Logan actually good at business.

I think you're way off. Logan wasn't good at business either. Not in the sense of being some smart mastermind. He was just a bully that made everyone afraid of him. He was petty, he got the company into huge debt and ended up having to sell it. Season 4 showed that Kendall could do the same that Logan did and be Logan 2.0, ( if Shiv hadn't pulled the rug under him - he misjudged her, but that's the kind of msitake Logan also made, most notably by misjudging Kendall at the end of season 2 - people just overlook it because Logan got out of it in the end). But why would you want that to happen? Logan was awful and Kendall would be also awful.

Greg still has the goods on Tom from season 1, so that's one of the reasons Tom kept Greg. And if Tom is going to be a pain sponge for Matson, he needs greg to be his pain sponge. And Shiv worked behind the scenes to save Tom from jail. She just never communicated that to Tom.

I don’t thin Roman gave up hope, I think he accepted he could never be Logan. He’s not thrilled but also has that burden lifted from him. Plus they are all now even richer than they were before.

All so well said. 👏 I love the point you make about Connor being the only sibling who was aware of Logan's inability to love them back. It's pretty ironic considering the siblings constantly undermine him.

It wasn't just Tom alone. Tom didn't earn anything in his career everything was giving to him by Shiv from cruises to co-head of ATN to chairman. Everything relied on Shiv so she did car about his career from the get go. The problem with Shiv is that she never defended him to his face. Shiv didn't want Tom to go to jail, she advised him not to offer himself and in the boat scene he didn't let her finish her statement when she said she was trying to defend him but she still later went to Logan doing the one thing she knew would jeopardize her relationship with her father being weak. Hence why she always never defended him outrightly so she wouldn't seem to be taking sides.

Wasn't Tom already the head of parks before he met Shiv? Being with Shiv certainly put him on the fast track but I thought he was already moving up in the company on his own.

I have to disagree with you about Shiv. She is not turning into her Mother. She is an extremely wealthy woman who has plenty of options. She had a career outside of Waystar/Royco which she could resume if she wanted to. She could start her own business, she could buy an established business. She could do volunteer work. She doesn't want to be the like her mother. She doesn't have to be. She can do therapy, take parenting classes, have a well trained nanny to learn from etc. No limits on her like Caroline might have had being married to Logan. Different time zone, different husband. It's on her to make of her life what she will.

Love this. You did such a good job explaining how a good character can be many, things at once. Really gonna miss this show but the ending definitely stuck the landing.

Don’t agree he only keeps Greg around because he likes him. He knows Greg has dirt on him and wants to keep him close
