I'm loving the little grins and smirks at the end of every episode recently! Kendall, Shiv and now back to Kendall! I could tell he was proud he was of how how he did - I thought he'd crumble! Were you surprised with how Kendall's presentation went? Comment your thoughts below! 🗣

yeah I've fully underestimated kendal since his breakdown, but this episode was very satisfying. also super sad that like yeah he got his shit together and killed it with the presentation in a very uniquely kendal way too like he has that sincerity that plays well, but he's alone at the end. that whole co-pilot scene was just heartbreaking, especially after the vending machine scene where it looked like kendal could tell rom was spiraling a little but still supported him - like it could have been an ok idea to fire a bunch of old people, but the way kendal handled it seemed like he was telling rom they in it together and really the whole time he's been including him cause he wants to bring him along.

I think this could be Kendall, in particular, Icarus moment. The cloud, referenced in the episode, could be suggesting that Kendall's head is in cloud nine and his feet (or mind) isn't on the ground. As evidenced by the Vaulter deal, Kendall's business judgement can be suspect. Jerry, in a previous season, told Roman to tattoo on his head "How does this serve my interest?". Roman acts in the opposite and let his emotions overwhelm him. I feel the brothers will blow up the deal and the stock will tank. Logan has said they are not serious people and are bloody useless. This will be the tragedy of Succession.

I love that karl stood up for himself, but then he totally went back to ass kissing after the presentation so that makes me think he might be out cause he doesn't really have a spine and that's very old guard vibes vs kendal is loyal. agreed about shiv and tom - they are complicated! but somewhat healthy. I think roman will figure himself out and grovel back like he's been looking for love and approval and he gets that with his bro so when he realises he'll prob be back. I dunno I think kendal might be ok and also there's only a few more episodes left so i'm not sure theres enough time for too many twists - I could be wrong though.

@@GinaMaher_ Of course Karl applauded Kendall after the presentation, all of them did, despite cringing while watching. But when he finds out Kendall is doing all that pizzazz to drive up the price and scare off Matsson so he can keep Waystar for himself, oh he will lose it. Gerri already has a gut feel. Eventually, they'll all get caught up.
@GinaMaher_
@GinaMaher_ Жыл бұрын
@@sadie513 I think Gerri does know now which means they probably all know or have an idea, so it will be interesting to see if they wait things out or pull strings behind the scenes. I think we've all been watching the siblings squabble that we've sort of dismissed them but maybe thats where the real drama will come from. I don't think karl will fuck things up unless his buy out is threatened.

Right. This video just skipped over all the lies, illegal practices, and chaos Roman and Kendall brought this episode/season. Probably due to creator’s bias lol. I don’t think anyone is going to fall for the daddy’s little boys act, especially if they cannot deliver. Kendall is not good with follow through, he is a great speaker though. So it is good to see him finally get this moment, with the CGI-dad approval. Roman is self imploding. And they are icing out Shiv who is the only one who sees projects to completion. And she’s now working with the enemy. This might end like a Greek tragedy.

Kendall has always had it in him. Like when he publicly defended his father in Court; you could’ve sworn HE was the CEO of the company at that moment. The problem is that he’s always pink clouding it. Mania-to-grief and back to mania again - that is his process. That’s the only command his operating system knows. kendall's cloud thing - I think he's actually creative like he's sensitive and appreciates art and has always wanted to make something so like initially you're looking at his whole build a house, have clouds, etc... thing as like duuuuude, that's so stupid and we're all expecting him to fail, but really thats a part of the creative process - the first idea is usually dumb, so the fact that he was able to scale it back and come up with something that still had a good idea that even his dad didn't see - the "live forever" angle that these old people would have the health and tech benefits of rich people and then drive it home with emotion, I'm actually team kendall right now and I think it makes an almost ironic ending for him to end up in charge like he was suppose to be in the first episode - so sort of like all that hurt could have been avoided or he needed the adversity to grow.

I found it interesting that both Roy brothers, Kendall and Roman, received reality checks from Royco heavyweights. However, only Kendall realized that he couldn't boss people around because he is not his father. The readjustment of his presentation after his convo with Karl made him the winner of the episode. While Roman firing people, because they questioned the "wisdom" of his decisions, is just proof of what his father said about him (and his brother and sister), he's not a serious person. This makes me think that Logan's successor will be the one to stop acting like a bad caricature of him.

Great observation. I like how Kendall supporting Roman self destructinh has that snark and competition behind it. Like, sure when Rome messes up it's the rebel Brothers, but really it's only in Roman's lap to get the bad consequences of his tantrums. I feel like Roman will still figure out how Ken is using him to do the dirty work but then it'll be a test too big for Roman to finally try to be a killer with so few eps left.
@lxuaes6915
@lxuaes6915 Жыл бұрын
I agree with it all, but I don't think Kendall "readjusted" after the convo with Karl... I honestly think it was sort of a call back to the pilot, where Logan tells Kendall, "sometimes it is a big d* competition". Karl even refers to there "members" in the interaction. Kendall held his ground and didn't waver, and earned Karl's respect for it in the end.
@lynnlawson4471
@lynnlawson4471 Жыл бұрын
@@lxuaes6915 I agree. It is all about power but more importantly, knowing how to wield it. Roman is abusing his power in the short term, blowing everything up and revealing his insecurities. This method is not sustainable for obvious reasons. Kendall - in fairness- has much more experience than Roman. In the very first episode of season 1, Roman wasn’t even working for the company, was he? We never got the real background on how Kendall ended up on magazine covers & the “heir apparent” but it was clear that when Logan tricked Kendall into signing the trust agreement, and when he glanced at that magazine cover of Kendall with contempt, he was changing his mind about stepping aside, which, of course, implies that Kendall had been told that he would be taking over. This expectation was confirmed in the episode when Ken broke down in Italy (and Conner blew up reminding the others that HE was the eldest son, NOT Kendall). Ultimately, the “piece of paper” found in Logan’s safe, following his death, this also appears to confirm that Logan had named Kendall as his successor (and possibly changed his mind). Roman was often passed over as sort of “a joke” - like, “seriously?” It was only after Kendall became adversarial toward his father that Logan began cozying up to Roman, causing Roman to possibly believe he was better than he really is. Roman definitely provided his father with comedic relief and Logan enjoyed having Roman around, but Logan was a selfish bastard. He enjoyed having Carrie around as well and look how that turned out. Logan was a master manipulator who knew what to say to each of his children to cause them to remain loyal to him. Kendall appears to have learned that trick in seizing the power in that moment & outsmarting Karl. Kendall’s evolution has been fascinating to watch. Roman is spiraling out of control while Shiv is keeping all of her options open.

I found Roman's storyline in this episode really fascinating. He's pushing - past his grief, past his dependence on Gerri, past his father and siblings. He is flailing and making mistakes. but trying to become an adult and find his own voice and footing. I don't see where he will land. But under it all, he heart that eludes the others. I hope he does not abandon it as well.

I do like that Kendall is being supportive of his actions though. Like the way he spoke to Matson last week and his firings of Joy and Gerri this week. Hopefully Roman learns to do that

Yes! I’m glad someone says it. His whole life has been him not being confident in himself thus needing other people to tell him what to do (in business or even sexual life). You are missing a big part of why Roman listened to that recording over and over at the end. He was disappointed in himself for not having the "balls" to get on stage with Kendall (and letting Shiv get him to make the wrong decision)...and it was an act of him punishing himself so he could (hopefully) learn this lesson and not make similar mistakes again in the future. I interpreted it in a slightly different way. While it is a moment of actualization and clarity, and will likely carry meaning moving forward in - I think that scene might just stand on its own. It spells less cosmic stars aligning and more plain ol’ relief to me, more than anything. Kendall is an incredibly sensitive person, a people pleaser, and, to his credit, is at least opaquely aware of his own shortcomings. He treads mania, addiction, and grief in almost every episode - and now you throw the burden of his late fathers empire into the mix. He’s gonna do what he always does - chase the sun and duck back into the fray when it gets too bright for him; that’s his process. Maybe on this occasion he gets an extra moment to bask in the glow, but he ultimately just wants relief from how he is feeling all the time. He just wants some cool water.

Solid review. First recap that makes mention of the fact that it was Ken who sent Roman the video, as a sibling joke and possibly a passive swipe for his flakiness and betrayal. It hammered home that Roman screwed himself by not taking the stage, forfeiting his position as CEO in the public's eye, and further erroding his already dubios perception from others. I think Shiv felt partly responsible, she noticed everyone anointing Ken and seemed concerned as she watched Roman storm off - that and she realizes Ken has set himself up as the front runner.

I’m so happy for Kenny because so many of his negative traits are typical CPTSD trauma responses. It’s great that he held it together and didn’t buckle and want to go fill himself with drugs to cope. He was the one who killed it with the Hearings on the Cruise Line, which I think shows how good he can be.

I really liked the symbolism of the ending scene. Kendall bravely dives into the ocean and floats on top, facing upwards, which I think is a reference to the two times he almost died in bodies of water. It shows us that this time he's finally won. However, there is something unsettling about this scene, I can't quite put my finger on it though. Maybe it's foreshadowing...?

I think it's different this time with Kendall, I think he's in a zone that he'll remain in until the end... That's kind of what the show is about, Kendall's transformation. That's why the end of Episode 4 this season was so significant. It was a paradigm shift moment for character.

What we learned once again about Roman is that when when under stress he crumbles. His two firings were irrational reactions in keeping with his broken psyche. His grief about Logan's death is I believe also his recognition that he cannot cut it as CEO.

I am in the minority on Ep 6. The Matson storyline for me is becoming a serious snooze fest. I didn't find the episode intense. I didn't even enjoy the attempt at a slow burn. We get Roman and Kendal's efforts to sabotage the acquisition without legal exposure and that yes, Shiv's working an angle. But, for me there's too much dragging. It would be nice if Greg becomes part of the show again in a meaningful way instead of as an extra. I hope things will pick up next episode. This Season started off so great and for me it completely plateaued.

Good summary. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I have so many questions about the show, not just about this episode. For example: Why do the three children never really know what they want? Or even what they feel? Why can none of them say a complete sentence in conversation? (Is it because they neve have a clear thought to express?) Why do they (particularly Roman) swear so much? Why is it Roman's *only* form of communication?

This episode was a real nail biter. It was such a sigh of relief when Ken ended his speech successfully and came out on top. Unfortunately I think this will send Shiv and Roman into full battle mode as they seek to discredit him. Fingers crossed those numbers remain sound.

One other thing, I hated is how so many tried Rome and Ken in this episode and challenged their position. Yet ALOT can be said of how the pair handled things individually. Karl especially has a lot to learn about Ken’s stealth mode but pay backs coming 😂😅

Not sure if was pointed out or obvious or whatever, but the whole stage with a brick house and clouds was all a play to get Roman off the stage, yeah? Ken was never going to actually go through with that. He played on everyone's expectations that he was gonna crumble and used it, perfectly, to his advantage to be the only one on stage. Then the edited video clip Ken sends to Roman was also a power move. Ken did what Logan did his entire life: Not only do you have to show power, confidence, and competence, but you need to make everyone around you feel so weak that they couldn't possibly ever challenge or want to be betray you.

I agreed with everything except Romans portion, from season 1 we’ve been given ideas that Roman loves to feel humiliated (Scenes with Gerri) I feel he was repeatedly playing Logan’s message for a sense of confidence, I think we will see Roman live up to challenges in the next episode

In a cast interview for this season, hearing the actor who plays greg say that people may not be happy with the ending- like a got situation- made me think that none of the siblings will take over. Is Succession essentially a narrative of Kendall’s redemption, as many are suggesting? I doubt it: Jesse Armstrong and most of the writers are Europeans and heavily into tragic realism. There will be some happy endings, perhaps, but I doubt Kendall’s will be one of them. He is a classic character: many strengths, but undone by fatal flaws.
