I really love the fact that pretty much all phone calls in Succession are actually real-time calls. When they put the person on the phone on speaker, you can hear it’s not just a voiceover. In 2020, my sisters and I lost our Dad but it was bang in the middle of covid, we were all living separately and when we were all trying to get home to him to say goodbye, we had phone call after phone call trying to find out what had happened and what the situation is. It was frustrating and terrifying. Watching this episode nearly 3 years on, it was so eerie watching how real this scene was. The nightmare of not being able to understand what's happening, what to say or having any control on what's going on. Our Dad is our best friend, so a very different relationship than the show, but even still a universal experience of this nightmare moment was presented so well in this episode. 'Daddy, don't go please not now'. Incredibly real.

That's not what he means by shakespearean. He means it happens in a way where they're trying to get the most emotion out of you even if it's at the expense of it not seeming very believable. And so he's talking about the believability of it. He's direction isn't really to be emotional but rather to just act how you would if this was actually happening. And the dialogue they say is almost like they don't know what to say, they aren't thinking clearly and nothing they say is very meaningful or meant to be meaningful.

I felt so much tension when Kendall went to find Shiv. I was afraid some random person would interrupt him to talk or something.

What an incredible gift to be able to watch this scene and then have the director break it down. So freaking cool.

When I watched this live, I was mostly stressed and confused, thinking that it might be a trick, but rewatching all these great performances in the breakdown video has me a bit misty 🥺

A brilliant director, an equally brilliant writer, and actors and actresses giving the performance of their lives - it shows. And that is why this show currently sweeps all the boards at the significant award ceremonies.

So this had popped up as a recommendation before I had gotten to this part in the show. Watching it now, well after I have finished my watch.. well jeez. This was such a joy and such a fabulous breakdown of an exceptional scene 🙏🏾
