Achara is completely right about Tom. Definitely keep an eye on how he conducts himself in the workplace and what he says to Greg. He is pure ambition BUT what makes him fascinating to me is that his love for Shiv means he's also willing to sublimate his wants, needs, and desires too. I think he fell in love with the idea and unattainability of her, and she fell in 'like' with the convenience of him; that he's something in her life she can control or even abuse. He wants desperately to believe that they are equal partners with shared goals, but she's always playing her own game, just like her father does with all of his own kids. Easily my favorite character and maybe the best example in the show of "hurt people hurt people." Greg is to Tom what Tom is to Shiv. Really excited to see you guys see that play out because their relationship is a massive part of the show.

Spoilers Tom doesnt love shiv. He never did. He admits as much in the final season. He said he was just attracted to the status. He used shiv to gain power and it worked. And shiv uses tom to gain power at the end and it works. They are still a couple at the end because its beneficial to them both but not because they love each other. tom is willing to give up parts of himself and his identity not because he loves shiv but because he'll lose his chance at power if she leaves. He pretends and convinces himself that he loves her but deep down he knows he doesnt.

@@MattMajcan I mean we need to be mindful of spoilers here but in his arguments with her in the final season he's arguing from a place of hurt. If he was solely career driven he wouldn't be operating from such a heightened emotional place. He wouldnt be torn up and mournful at her continued rejection of him. He wouldn't reach for her when he's hurting, as he repeatedly does. He absolutely loves her, it's just that his love is deeply entangled with his ambition... Which is what makes him fascinating imo

But he absolutely has an emotional stake in her that surpasses cold calculation and survival. Loving her and using her to get ahead aren't mutually exclusive. He's an embodiment of how messy it gets when you play these power games at this level. Kinda my whole takeaway from their story

I think Shiv does love Tom, but she is scared of loving anyone, because she has learned that vulnerability is weakness. It's not that she likes the convenience, that would mean she's indifferent. But she clearly is NOT indifferent to him. She thinks about him constantly and tries to further his career whenever she can. But she's scared of loving someone so she keeps herself at a safe distance.

2:55 It would be involuntary manslaughter (possibly) because he had drugs in his system. If he didn't then it would have just been a car accident. They made it a point that it wasn't Kens fault with the passenger grabbing the wheel so the audience knows he didn't *really* do anything. It would also have destroyed Kens public relationship irreversibly.

It is his fault. The kid grabbed the wheel when he saw they were crashing into a deer, Ken should have already been hitting the breaks. And while he did dive like once, he avoided contact with the car driving on the road instead of getting help. I know people want to defend their guy but even Ken knows he got him killed.

@@kvm6He could've flagged a car down, but instead he deliberately hides to avoid being seen at the scene. The script makes a point of spelling this out: "Kendall hardly had time to think. But as he watches the car recede, he thinks, what am I doing? What did I do? He steps into the road and as he watches it go he realizes that this wasn't just grabbing some time to think. This was the key moment. He's made a decision." Kendall didn't murder the waiter, but it was his reckless and poor decision-making that put the two of them in that situation, driving high out of their minds in a foreign country. The waiter pulled at the wheel because Kendall didn't notice the deer on the road because he was too busy fiddling with the stick shift (because he's inexperienced and used to having his own driver). He's not *entirely* to blame, but definitely to a degree.

The reason why Kendall is responsible is because he was admittedly drunk and high on cocaine; he’d been on a drug binge for weeks at that point and had grown dependent on it. So he shouldn’t have been driving, and ultimately if Kendall hadn’t gone up to that kid and asked him for a connect, that kid wouldn’t have been in the car. And Kendall also couldn’t even drive the car properly since it was stick shift.

Tom is definitely very ambitious and selfish in his way, but to be a little fair to him, I don't think he's even considered that Shiv would want a role in the company, she's just so doing her own thing. People always forget that Kendall was about to fuck his siblings out of their inheritance at his sister's wedding. So when they're like "omg why are they so mad at him" that's literally why. Also Roman and Shiv are used to seeing Kendall off with their dad whispering in the corner. From their perspective he fucked over the family and Logan let him off easily. Everyone can tell something happened but they feel left out.

I agree that Kendall didn't really do anything to cause the accident but being the driver, leaving the accident and being on drugs would def get him in trouble. Manslaughter? Doubt it, especially in Europe but he could get in trouble for not helping the kid if they have bystander laws in the UK.. Anyway you guys remember that US diplomat kill someone in a car accident in the UK and got off scot-free? Harry Dunn was the victim. So Kendall getting off even if he was caught wouldn't shock me

I think if Kendall had gone to the police and admitted he was driving, he could possibly been charged with manslaughter. However, there was no proof that he was ever even in the car, other than his keycard being found nearby. With all that being said, I think this is just another example of how his privilege gets him out of things. It was clearly meant to mirror the 1969 Chappaquiddick incident when senator Ted Kennedy negligently drove his car off a bridge and his female passenger drowned. He didn’t report the crash until later the next day, despite knowing that she most likely had not survived. He was not charged with any crime, but the incident did keep him from running for president because he knew too much damage had been done to his reputation. It was rumored he was cheating on his pregnant wife at the time with the woman in the front seat.

ken didnt commit manslaughter. not even close. People die in car accidents all the time, the driver doesnt get charged with manslaughter. It was an accident. manslaughter implies some negligent action that results in a preventable death. In this case there was no such thing. even if they had been completely stone cold sober the crash likely happens the exact same way. It was just unlucky. And I agree that kendall isnt actually that much at fault.
